Honestly seeing Capcom characters in SNK's very distinct middle KoF style was even more awesome than the inverse, as much as I adore Capcom Versus SNK 2.
I have to agree here, it's possibly because the SNK style had greater fidelity.
I’m a CvS2 fanboy and like the anime esque designs for the SNK chars, but SNK did a great job with these sprites and feel like more effort was put into them. They are more consistent and lean into the traditional SF2 art style well.
And as usual SNK was the king of sprite animation frames
Agreed, I think SNK made the best sprites for Balrog, Dimitri, Guile, Sagat, and Chun-Li in SvC Chaos.

Even though SNK just traced over for a couple of characters (the Shotos, Boxer, Chun Li & Hugo are the obvious ones, from SF2 and 3s respectively), it still ended up looking real nice too.
Remember picking this up for Xbox thinking it was going to be like MVC. I was just a kid so I didn’t have any experience with KOF. Little did I know how much of a blast I was going to have playing this.
Demitri looks so sick in this game. He's just monstrous; it's fantastic.
I loved that the devs went to the effort to create transformations for Midnight Bliss for every character.
I would Love to see Morrigan SNK style
To me, this is such an underrated and unappreciated game. These fighters were the best games on their respected systems. Neo Geo Pocket Color roughy us SNK vs. Capcom and, on the Neo Geo, we got SVC Chaos. Outstanding!!!!
The roster in this game is Godlike and severely underrated. SNK had impeccable taste in picking the roster from Capcom
i would have liked to make a few roster changes replace orochi iori place with orochi yashiro as sub boss and also replace genjuro with moriya (last blade)

I love this game! I first experienced it in an arcade in Japan. I have it now on the OG Xbox. It is extremely satisfying to beat the overly hard last boss.
That Dhalsim sprite in this game is nuts.
This is one of my most played fighters ever. I love how seriously this game takes itself. Street Fighter has never before or after felt like such a life-or-death, high stakes fighter. It feels totally unique in that respect, and I love it for that.
I liked SNK vs Capcom more than the other. Maybe I found Capcom characters in SNK style more interesting than vice versa.
While gameplay wise I am partial to Capcom versus SNK 2, you are 100% right visually. SNK had great pixel art for gritty realism and honestly it suited Street Fighter characters better than Alpha and SF3's style did. Guilty Gear X was king of anime style and Capcom wasnt bad, just they didn't put as much emphasis in pixel visuals at the time I would guess.
SvC was TRASH! Looks like a game from the 80s. I'd rather play Karnov's Revenge. You can't even finish a round, every fight ends with "time over." 🥴🥴

Absolutely , you laid out EXACTLY how i feel about this game , the dark and grim atmoshphere here is unique and amazing (storywise)
only minor changes i would make such as replace genjuro with moriya (last blade) , orochi iori with orochi yashiro , dan with cody and balrog with lilith , replace station obsolete and blockade space with better stages and also add few more modes like boss battle , time attack and online battle ,etc and that would make it a MASTERPIECE

Had this on my XBOX randomly found it at the Gamestop my roommate worked at. It was a really fun game. I was always an SNK fan and wanted to see what SNK would do with a crossover game in the classic format. I love how weird they got with the roster. Violent Ken and Terry were my mains.
This is one of the few games where Terry is Top Tier. One of my favorite fighters.
In SVC CHAOS,They have Dan Ryo's Goh Shaokoken because is a parody of both Robert and Ryo Sakazaki

I really Hate the PS US division for turning down SVC in the states. They're mindset of " 2D out, 3D in'" couldve caused them millions if Castlevania; Sympgony of the night, Megaman 8, Megan X4-6, Silhouette Mirage ( and more) werent considered for publishing! 😂

The audacity of these foolish reviews frowning on the beautiful sprite graphics of SvC Chaos. It's almost a miracle how they managed to make all these new characters with super fluid animations, like the effects of Demitri's cape and demonic form, into the classic MVS system hardware.
Alternatively both the card games and the fighting on the NeoGeo Pocket Color were also excellent 👌
A lot of reviews of 2D games in the early 3D era have aged as poorly as early 3D games have.

I loved this game! Especially violent ken and his exceed super was the best in the game!
Critics arent givint this game the best advertisement, but for real fighting games enjoyer this is a hidden gem with hilarious interactions
I can't be the only one that remembers the version of this that was being fan made online that played amazing...
One of few games I own for my AES. Despite there being many better fighters on the Neo Geo still play this a lot for the coolness of the animation of the SF2 characters. The special gauge moves are also really varied. Great video. Top kiffing.
Capcom vs. Snk 2 is the best fighter I’ve ever played PERIOD!
This is such a slept on gem its up there with marvel vs Capcom.

fun fact: in the SVC manga, it's shown that mr. karate is the only person that akuma deems an equal to him.
There's lore behind this, actually.
The original "Sheng Long" rumors actually come from people playing Art of Fighting, and mistaking it for Street Fighter 2... where Mr. Karate was actually the FIRST SECRET EXTRA BOSS EVER. Akuma didn't come around until Super Turbo some two years later - but Akuma would never have existed conceptually if Mr. Karate hadn't preceeded him!
Mr. Karate being defeated, revealed that he was Ryo's dad was also the basis for the rumor that Akuma was Ryu's dad.

when i say that akuma considered him an equal, its because in the manga, they fought and killed each other. ryu saw the entire battle.

I'll always have a soft spot for the pixel art in this game, specifically the new designs. Played it more than CvS.
Loved this game, hell I still do. I loved the way SNK styled the Capcom characters, and its just fun as hell to play. I play it from time to time on my MAME emulator. I'd love for all the crossover games to be compacted into a collection! And you know when that finally happens, that'll mean that a new Capcom vs SNK game will be on the horizon!
This was one of the last new games I got to actually play on Arcades, before those all but gone extinct in the latest 15 years

Many SNK games have aged like fine wine. They are indicative of the time and have so much charm and personality... even though their difficulty is beyond ridiculous.
Thank you for featuring my Dream Come True game Capcom VS SNK and it's sequel made the SNK characters look and move like crap SNK perfectly brought Street Fighter 2 characters on to SVC Chaos.
SVC Chaos was surprisingly good. I played it in the arcade, and none of my opponents were remotely familiar with the SNK characters, so I could school them with Ryo, Iori, or Kasumi.
Bit of a downside, tho, the AI on charge characters always cheated -- it only needed one frame of each direction to have a successful charge input.
Great review I'm also definitely huge fan of this game I enjoy playing it on my Neo Geo a lot all I can play it on my PS2 from time to time on PC

I remeber buying the MVS Board when it came out . Its a great game, amazing sound and artwork. I sold my board to buy the cart version which I still have.

Just playing this for the first time and I’m fortunate to have a CRT monitor and on such a display it really is quite beautiful. The art style is really great.
This game isn’t very much liked by the Capcom & Snk fandom. I personally think this game a good actually and can only be enjoyed by a player who isn’t looking for big details on a crossover such as a big roaster, popular characters, or very over the top characteristics but rather good graphics, design, and sometime different. SNK definitely wanted to do something completely from what Capcom did for the crossovers. This game came out just about the time KOF2003 did with whole different real life aesthetics such as the stages having them look more realistic and real life color tones. It also brought a very unique roaster from both sides such as Shiki, Mars People, Demitri, Evil Ken, Earthquake, Hugo, Princess Athena, Tabasa ect. I think Snk did a really good job with this crossover because it was different in ever aspect yet with the touch of Snk it’s self. I loved that we got to see Capcom characters in Snk style I’m completely here for chaos 2 I would love to see Morrigan, Cammy, Yuri, Jill Valentine, Sakura, Karen, Honda in Snk style.
I remember hearing SNK went bankrupt back in the day. Then I walked into an arcade and saw this game. Blew my mind at the time. SVC Chaos was also my first Xbox game. Crazy its been 20 years.

I love this game. The Demitri sprite is the best character design ever. The whole game reminds me of the early days of Fatal Fury. This and Metal Slug 5 were the only brand new NeoGeo MVS kits I ever bought
SVC Chaos would be an actual hit if the game were released in 1998.
There was a Manhua for this game, called SNK/CapCom SVC Chaos. It's pretty wild and ridiculous - the fighters are taken to an altrneate earth to battle it out as representatives of good and evil, hence the post-apocalyptic look of the BGs.
best part of the game was that they included the brainwashed version of ken from the anime movies and made him way more better than average ken

SvC Chaos wins three awards.
1. Worst gameplay system of the crossovers
2. Best lore/dialogue of the crossovers
3. The Mr. Karate Award, for pulling that badass out of retirement for the first time since AoF1.
I guess it also has the widest/wackiest cast of characters, it's just sad that so much of Capcom's character diversity were hidden/unselectable in arcades.
PS: SCEA, in later PS2 era, got EXTREMELY anti-2D in their policies, and IIRC, is the *entire* reason why Maximum Impact series was begun.
Though I wish the game graphically matched what Capcom did, I still appreciate SVC! They had a very imaginative an awesome lineup of characters compared to the first two entries, and unlike Capcom, actually gave some. much needed and awesome animation to characters, such as Dimitri! Still sad we never got this game in the west, but I'm glad the import version is still available and relatively cheap!❤

Its chun li cosplay also the lyric in the song says chun li in it so its more like high praise to a character she aspires and likes.
I like this game better because it's well balanced plus some of the characters have multiple supers
SvC Chaos has been known to me since at least 2006 because of my exposure to the Sonic Hoax scene, as its assets were heavily used by the community at the time and it helped deliver a glimpse into what could come from future Sonic ROM hack concepts well after the end of the original era of Moogle Cavern; while I didn't get to play this title proper until September of 2022, I know for a fact that any of you who grew up with the Arcade version very likely opted to upgrade your cabinet or ROM to make use of Super Plus, the Upper Version of the game that unlocks all of the characters that you would otherwise not get to mess with on a normal basis, apparently the Xbox version also had everybody unlocked from the get~go this way and Online Mode battles would often have everybody simply playing as Shin Akuma to make use of his hefty arsenal of Hadoukens and amazingly still easy to execute Unblockable Super (Shun Goku Satsu/Raging Demon), making me wonder how much Xbox Live was utilized during the peak of its run.
One element that I truly love about SvC Chaos' gameplay is ultimately the Continue system: When you choose to rebound after a loss, you are given the ability to select one of four different options, such as giving you a High Super Meter or reducing your opponent's health to 025%, this helps out with the Single Round Bouts Speedrun and aides in getting a runner back in the action when they have to use a credit; the presence of Demitri in this entry also presented how Internet Rule 063 was being presented in game form before it would become the current standard of the global scene, the fact that he can literally morph anybody into their feminine or more visually arousing counterpart (though Andore/Hugo is literally the same, only with K Sized breasts) before he Shang Tsung's all the muscle out of them was not often heard of in the International market back in 2003 and thus one has to admit that this may have fueled the current demand for this in the art space over time.
Now, even though Street Fighter, Vampires/Darkstalkers, Rockman, Ghosts 'n Goblins, Fatal Fury, The King of Fighters, and every other IP have stopped using Pixel Art and Pre~Rendered artwork rendered on a Silicon Graphics Workstation for a good amount of years now, it is without contest that if we ever were to return to an era where this is favoured, wishfully SvC Chaos serves as the basis for making a lot of new venues and characters under its style; had Street Fighter IV not gone with the Tridimensional Comic~style approach that it went for, this would've definitely been the better alternative, I have always wondered what Cody, Guy, Haggar, and Poison would look with it and other notables such as Juri, Hakan, Elena, Seth, and Decapre would all look phenomenal with the ridiculous level of shading that was used for this sprite direction, the level of dedication that it took to do Rotoscoping of Super Turbo' and Alpha IIIs sprite sheets for the lot of the Capcom roster was a welcoming sight and to witness this be expanded upon (even if it has to be done in Mugen) truly would open the door for a heightened resurgence in this art practice for the Fighting space. (:

Played this game on my Original Xbox recently and I really liked it. Not as much as SNK vs Capcom 2 Chaos which I thought was a sequel to this game

I think it would've gone over better visually if they had used the Garou Mark of the Wolves art style. That said it WAS pretty cool to see how Street Fighter characters looked in 90s King of Fighters stye.

With a lot more polish SVCC could have been a way better game, the foundation is there but considering the circumstances at the time, it's a miracle it came out. On a side note, the Neo-Geo Pocket/Pocket Color is a seriously underrated piece of hardware with software to match. Picked one up myself in 2001 on clearance at Toys'R Us with tons of games since they were getting rid of inventory.

Capcom vs SNK Millennium Fight 2000, Capcom vs SNK Pro and Capcom vs SNK 2 completed Capcom's side. SNK vs Capcom (NGPC) SNK vs Capcom Card fighters clash and SNK vs Capcom SVC Chaos was Snk's contribution

Yeah i liked the game. Cvs pro & cvs2 was way better. But it was still a cool game. The finsl hidden boss (the bikini goddess) was a beast. The hardest boss i fought in a long time
