One thing I didn't make clear in the video is that my frequency numbers are the average over 60s in Control. A different title would give me different results, for example the benchmark stable OC setting has the card hitting 3.2GHz in Unigine Valley. 6:21 - I meant to say "slower timings" but said "lower timings" which would mean the opposite *facepalm*
Yes indeed, we have seen this prevalently this since Nvidia bringing in first generation RT with Turing. When you load RT cores on a GPU it has a different effect on the GPU clock rate, board power and stability compared with than traditional rasterised rendering workloads.
This is actually one of the best oc/uv guides Ive seen, with the clean presentation, through and logical explanations and reasonings and a step by step guide. Very nice work Tasty!

I really love the presentation on this video, I’ve never bothered with under-volting or power tweaks, and I’ve not noticed anyone else discuss them, but this was really useful in explaining the effects of each tweak. You’d never see top tier production quality like this on LTT either, it’s just so pleasant to watch
This is a super bloody useful methodology and demonstration! Not even planning on going AMD this gen, but loved seeing this thorough a walk through the process.
This is the best, most straight forward overclocking video I've ever seen. Great description of your methods, easy to understand, and quick to the point. P.S. Didn't know you were back! I had unsubscribed about a year ago becasue I thought the channel was dead but glad your back. Resubbed and Keep up the great content.
8:42 mark. "Giant difference between benchmark stable, and everyday gaming stable" . 100% Agree with you. Many are just to focused on getting that certain benchmarking score, without getting any real stable performance when it comes to gaming. Wish more people listed to statment on this subject. Great content! Keep up the good work!
"I'm not going to make a tutorial" -- proceeds to make a really solid tutorial / demonstration on how to overclock. This was really good and answered all my questions. thanks.
This is such a thorough as well as detailed analysis and guide. I have seen overclocking videos about 7900xtx on so many different channels both big and small but yours was the best. You have earned my sub! Keep up the great work.
i found your channel waaaayyyy back in 2014/15 when i first got into PC gaming, then you stopped uploading for a long time. I am very glad to see youre back and creating top tier content again. awesome.
The best OC/UV guide hands down for this card AND for high end AMD cards. People could learn a LOT from watching this, includlng many other tech TH-camrs.
Great video and with detailed OC info. I have an XFX 7900XTX MERC 310 Speedster Black series and got 18,287 with your gaming OC settings. Pretty impressive. With an benchmarking setup, I'm sure I can hit maybe 20,000. Keep up the great work.
The 4090 waterforce is something special. Good to see AMD nearly taking back the performance crown. Hopefully the 7950xtx or 8900xtx will do it... We need more competition in the marketplace.7900xtx has 3300 max oc on the gpu.
I love this! 😊 one of the best Overclocking videos I have seen. I love your attention to detail and how every step is covered so well. Even after you benchmark, getting it 24/7 gaming stable. I wish there had of been videos like this when I started out 😊. Fantastic Job Lauren 😊
just upgraded my AMD desktop rig, and this video was very helpful. Thanks for being so comprehensive. So many overclocking videos don't talk about the difference between benchmark results versus expectations for everyday gaming for several hours, and you covered this very well. Thanks!
Nice, I've been waiting for reports of OC/UV on those cards. For some time AMD likes to play fast and loose with core voltages, so undervolting is pretty much always worth giving a shot. Great video! Good to see you upload more.
Thank you for the video. People do seem to be hoping that the OC potential of the 7900 XTX, will deliver those performance gains promised by AMD. That is, significantly ahead of the 4080 in raster, while bridging some of the gap in RT. However, the 4080 is also no slouch in OC, so even a 10-15% gain for the XTX will only go so far against an OC'd 4080, which gains 8-9%. Maybe driver updates will help a bit, but any way we look at it, a maxed out and optimized XTX will likely remain at most 10-15% ahead of a maxed out 4080 in raster, and 15-25% behind in RT.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for this detailed breakdown (nearly two years later...lol)! I just got a great deal on a 7900 XTX and have been researching undervolting/overclocking while waiting for it to get shipped. And after reading two articles and watching a half-dozen videos, yours was the clearest, most detailed for someone who is new to AMD undervolting. TL;DR: great detailed video, you rock; I am subscribed. 😅
I'm actually extremely impressed with this video. Most people believe that this is only really a guy thing. That goes without saying, however this is truly the best video I've ever seen when it comes to presenting and undervolt and overclocking scenario as well for a card. I truly hope to see more from you like this. Fucking great job. It's too bad you don't have a water block on the card. It would be interesting to see how much different the results would be
thank you for this! I knew a little about OC from my Nvidia days, but this went into more detail and now i feel far more comfortable with what i am doing
Glad you are uploading more recently still remember watching your videos almost like 10 years ago:) So far, on my 4090 FE, I managed to get a 27839 port royal score got super lucky on extremely fast memory.
This is by far the most detailed video in terms of OC / UV ive found yet. Many things are considered. Silicon. Benchmark setting. Daily use. Often i read so much BS that people do 3,4 ghz with 1.025 Mv...yeah that might work on a benchmark run with 100% fan speed. But not in daily gaming with 20 differents games. Dont get me wrong...something can happen. But people tend to read the graphs also wrong. When your GPU hits for 2 seconds the 3.4 GHZ that also doenst mean that card does an average of 3.4 Ghz. This is by far the most detailed video in terms of OC / UV ive found yet. Many things are considered. Silicon. Benchmark setting. Daily use.
Excellent video! I have had my 7900XTX Powercolor Hellhound for about 5 days now. I'm still playing with the overclocking on it. The Hellhound is a dual 8 pin connector model with a much beefier cooler than the reference model. It was the same price as the reference model.
I have the exact same card and this is probably the best oc and undervolting guide for 7900 XTX cards I've seen so far. Thanks a lot. Let's see how far I can push mine!
I heard if you find the right min clock, you can gain additional performance with that card. So keep your UV/OC settings and just try different min clocks, maybe you can squeeze more out of it. TBH you did a great job tuning this card, i am impressed :-)
I've seen more stable and sustained higher clocks when raising the min clock, but when drawing more power like with ray tracing it might require a different OC profile. You can find balance in between the two, But for best overclocks you will need to different profiles
Thank you for the graphs. Barely anyone provides incremental graphs how things affect the performance. Edit: Honestly aside from the disclaimer this is better than some of the guides on youtube.
Your methodical approach to overclocking is perfect and usually how I try. You're a lot more successful bringing it all together - that's usually where I have problems.
Overall I like to keep my hardware as is. The engineers that designed them did a great job in most cases. Love your vids. This is really great for those wo want to get it tuned up =D
This is the best OC/UV video I’ve watched. I learned so much. This is my first AMD card, and I’m trying to tune my OC to get the most out of it. Thought I finally found some really good OC settings, but just crashed after a few hours of trying different games. Hopefully I can go back to using these settings after some driver updates. I’d really like to get this OC fine-tuned so I don’t get any more crashes.
@TastyPC I have the same card. Do you have these driver timeouts? I even sent mine to warranty and they sent me a new one back. Still had the issue. Thought it was PSU or Motherboard I bought new ones and I am waiting.
I have a question for you. Can I update AMD gpu drivers using the adrenaline software? Or do I have to visit AMD website, download the driver to my desktop and then install it?
I'm pretty sure you can update in the software because there's a button to check for updates, unfortunately I haven't been able to try it out yet because it just says "no updates are available".
good guide for oc'ing the 7900-gpus. I finally have my card on water and was playing around with the overclock and had more or less the same conclusion 😊
i have a sapphire nitro plus xtx i have mine stable with these settings, 1085 mv undervolt, 3200MHz max boost, and max power to 15%. i get a stable boost clock in games of 3100-3200 MHz varies due to temps. it never goes below 3ghz. but its strange like on call of duty if i set my card to stock everything other than power draw, i go above 3200mhz boost clock and still never drops below 3000. so did i just get some really dang good silicon?
Best UV/OC video on this GPU yet. Very comprehensive, thank you! Edit: You’ve given me ideas to further tweak my reference XTX. Not having a 3rd 8 pin means a more strict power limit but I have gotten some interesting resulta already. Cheers!
Fantastic. Thank you for sharing your findings! Quick question. I am running full AM5 system, is there anything I have to do to make sure I am fully utilizing 7900x virtual cores?
You hit all the check marks! If you could include or just mention your Temps with each test it would be very helpful, AMD cards seem very temp sensitive, I imagine the Tuff card didnt run to hot.
Temps were not high at any point in the testing, so I didn't have much to talk about there, but I did talk about fan speed and show an in-game overlay which includes temperature towards the end. :)
@@MoeKoopa Not sure what the TJ Maxx on the new cards is but it doesnt really seem to apply like it use to. I have a 6900 xt and the lower I could undervolt and the lower I could keep the Temps the better it performed. It wasnt getting super hot to begin with maybe mid 70s hot spot. Getting that hot spot down into the low 60s made a crazy difference and the TJ maxx on those was around 95c I think. Like I said above AMD card seem very temp sensititve.
