Please make as many in depth videos as you can. I’m so happy I’ve found your channel. It’s so hard to find enough reliable information for self taught people like myself.
You are a extremely structured, calm and organized teacher. Your easy to understand and a beautiful person as well. I was lost & looking for exactly what you shared, Thank You ... I watched your video and I feel like I will have the best start thanks to you. You are awesome!!
Thank you for your teaching. I have been studying on my own, sharpening the carving knife and practicing straight lines and curves according to the video. I look forward to the follow-up videos. Thank you very much.
Thank U 4 all your advices. I started my first piece engraving in metal. I saved a lot of time thanks to your movies. It is very helpfull ❤ . It's hard to find better teacher . I wish U all the best and I'm waiting for more 💪
Thank you SO much for this video! Not only did I learn how to start my engraving journey, It you reminded me that all expert skills take time, patience and hard work to build a solid foundation. Listening to you was like listening to my martial arts teacher. 🙏
To protect the skin of your hands use invisible glove protective coating. Due to my line of work I had constant problems with dry crack on my hand. It stopped when I started using those protective coatings.
I think it would be cool to demonstrate how you connect two lines at a corner. At my practice and experience level, I’m not good at corners. Right now I’m learning how to draw acanthus leaves. Learning how to engrave took me there. I was just setting some gems. But now I want to be able to draw some scrolls. Thank you for another great video
One tip for connecting lines at corners is to start both lines a short distance from the corner. Engrave each ,one away from the corner. Then, go back into the cut, but finish each line towards the corner. This is called back cutting, and it is very useful for making lines look good and consistent. There is almost always a bit of taper in width when you start a cut. A short cut back towards the beginning of the cut evens that out. It’s really important in block lettering, and for lettering with serifs.
I don't know your name but I think you do very nice work..I'm a 66 year old collage student learning silversmithing .just wanted to say good job and great vidios
I love this! I’m sure you know this but just in case… you can buy gravers instead of making them. It’s much easier. It is nice that you teach how to make them as well. As a beginner I would buy them and get used to that before I tackled making them. I have cold worked jewelry as well and done some engraving. You explain things well. There’s also a book called “The Complete Metalsmith” by Tim McCreight that goes through how to cold work metal and do engraving. 😊
Great video! Very cool how you shape the gravers with a rotary hand piece! Do you recommend that beginners also practice circles counter clockwise? Sometimes if there are obstacles on a certain piece, one may have to engrave the opposite direction. I subscribed! Thanks for this video!
If I were a total beginner, I would focus on close wise first. Because once you are confident with that, you should be able to pickup the skill of engraving counter clockwise in a few minutes. I show beginners how to practise hand engraving circles on metal here: huiyitan.com/products/how-to-practise-hand-engraving-straight-lines-and-circles-on-metal

Making gravers is much harder than she makes it look. You have to have the right speed, pressure, angle and time. You need to check the surface and relative angles periodically. If the angle is even a few degrees off you have to adjust and ensure that doesn't make that side shorter than the other side. You also can't have any multiple facets and when you are periodically checking then going back to the wheel that is very difficult to avoid without a lot of time practicing. If you are new to this sort of thing be prepared to spend 40+ hours to just consistently nail down the basic straight-line V graver. All angles and surfaces must be absolutely perfect if you are to be a pro. I see a lot of videos of people making gravers but I can instantly see the flaws and it either shows in their work or they need to put in unnecessary effort to control the graver (which they won't admit to you - perhaps also because they don't know any different).
I have 2 video courses here showing how you can make those 2 gravers yourself at home: huiyitan.com/collections/course I also have them ready to use here on my website: huiyitan.com/collections/miscellaneous. Hopefully this helps.

Do you go "rock hunting", looking for certain gems out of the ground? ❤
Diamond dust isn't what killing us it's COVID dust!
Diamond wheels should not be used for iron or steel.
The diamond will dissolve into the iron and your tools will get dull quickly.
