I recently showed this vid to my brother Enda, who's a master engraver, but who has never used any machines in his life, apart from his hands, and can no longer continue due to very bad arthritis in his hands. He's now 78 years old. He was fire and flame for your pneumatic engraver and wished that he'd been able to use it when he was engraving by hand for all those years. He's absolutely convinced that it would've made his life far more easy. In 1991, I asked him to engrave a gold locket for our older sister Lioghan (it's an Irish name) with her name for her 45th birthday, which I then proudly presented to her. In 2000, I asked him to engrave the back of the locket with the dates of her birth and her death from breast cancer - which occurred in the year 2000. I still wear that hand-engraved locket, by my dear brother, around my neck to this day. MsG
Master ! I'm a 3rd generation jeweler 35yrs hand made jewelry ! It is an art that takes many yrs of practice ! Hats off top quality work and info .Thank you !
I like to watch professionals in their work. I too have started to make silver rings as hobby. I was a truck driver but i had a stroke 5 years ago and now with out work, so i have something to do. Unfortunately i am not rich so i can buy all those tools. I can only dream of that electronic microscope he has and the GRS GraverMax G8 machine. Well, perhaps in other life ,lol.
First time I have seen this kind of work, I think it is beautiful and masterly done. I'm that old now my eyes wouldn't allow me to do it but, it is pleasing to watch a craftsman at work talking his way through the project. Thank you for showing your skill.
you truly have a gift and a passion for it. also id like to say, not everyone that's a craftsman can also teach there craft. you make it seem easy and like the tip with the tool holder and work piece placement so it wont spring on you. you share not only the skills but the experience that goes with years of trail and error. keep em coming...
THANK YOU, seriously, THANK YOU you have no idea how tired i am of people saying "Oh, digital art is not art" if i put down the stylus it wont work, its still me drawing, it only changes the medium, people had had the same argument from the start of human history, minimalism, abstract art, expresionism, cinema, videogames, they treat it as if they where not art in any way when they still take Blood Sweat and Tears to learn and be made thank you man, for the turorial and for the words, im sick of snobs playing the "i know more than you" card, its just gatekeeping and dont get me started on the ones who see references as cheating
Absolutely beautiful. I wish I lived nextdoor to you. Nothing like learning from a master. Btw don't listen to the trolls who so rudely say you are cheating...because that is absolutely ridiculous. To even say something like that is ignorant and I'm sure a bit envious. Your tools are am extension of your creativity. No matter the tool. It brings your ability to life. Amazing work sir. Thank you for sharing it with us.
I'll be looking forwards to it, hopefully it won't be long, I surely do appreciate your generous / abundant patient sir. I've enjoyed a great deal looking at this video, (come to think about it, I think I was born to do this kind of trade for I never had this much fun) BIG THANK YOU.
I've wanted to learn engraving for a few years now, primarily to engrave a couple of my guns. I'm a week away from moving to a house where I'll have plenty of space for a workshop, I just found your channel and I can't wait to watch all your videos!
Thank you it's so cool. You can tell you cair about us learning. Not how cool you are. And know one will be as good as you. What's the best for the money tools.
This is turning into a great series to watch. I bought a Graver Meister a long time ago. It was very interesting to see the plates progress, but long hours in a tool room caused it to grow dust and webs. Your work is very nice. I thank you for sharing your talents.
You are blowing up with subs! I subbed a few days ago and you had about 2000. For being so new to it,you’ve already got a great start, and amazing teaching technique! Keep the awesome videos
You're absolutely right. It is both your hand and the precision that you apply that make this engraving perfect. I could watch hours & hours of any artist in their own field doing intricate or detailed work. There are so much work involve in this field of art. Definitely, the artist has to use a lot of muscle. I'm starting to engrave and you inspire me. will be watching the next episodes. for sure.
Lol! Layne I have also heard that regarding "handmade bits and spurs," I explained to them even if you use advanced equipment it does not really make it easier, just have to lean to master the equipment, but the real challenge is to effectively execute an artful design. Great video.
Incredible work. Thank you for putting together these videos. I loved your comment on "machine engraving". I've had similar responses to painting digitally...My answer is the same. It's my hand drawing, layering and building depth and colour, composing the image...I just don't have to wait for the paint to dry. Aiming for hand engraving as another skill to have, (learning forging at the moment) tried dremeling but it lacked the depth and clean texture, so going to make some tools to start learning. Good luck with the channel, the content you've put out so far is inspiring and hugely informative
I'm also wanting to learn this just don't have a heart attack when you see the cost of the equipment lol. I'm finding more cost effective tools that may not be high quality but should get the job done while learning. good luck
Reposted vid? Loving your videos Layne, keep up the great work. Thanks for sharing your art and skills. Don't be surprised on the early channel success. 10k after Alec's recommendation (1 million + subs) is easy; that's only a 1% conversion rate. Expect many more as they realize the quality of your work.
Amazing work, I wish I could give this video 100 likes. The line background just blows my mind away. I guess that one of the most important skills is the art of being able to do good parallel lines. Thank you for sharing.
thank a lot, got blod on my teeth(dont know the english phase for it, something we say in Denmark, something like: extra great desire to push forward ) really want to start, had been tattooing for many years also taking jewellery classes but never graaving only some engraving, had sooo much blood on my teeth now to givee it a try :-) love your video, thanks a lot to share youre skillz, big respect!!!
Damn you make it look easy! I smith a lot of my own tools, and would like to decorate them up a little, but holy heck you make it look so much easier than it is! My problem is I have the artistic talent of a potato.
I also have little artistic ability but ive found that it helps massively when you start learning the basics and using them to make some designs. Just like other skills, you learn what techniques can be used to do what, then when you understand fully idea just start cropping up. Just like any other skill or trade, you gotta learn to walk before you can jog, run, skip or jump.
I know this sounds tacky, but I feel such a strong calling to this art. I don’t have lots of money, so I was wondering if you have any tips on how I can get started on a budget? Thanks so much for sharing.
Well sir, I'll say that I really enjoyed watching this video. I've been considering getting into metal engraving so I'm very happy that I came across your video here. I'll be watching all of the other videos in your series thru the next few days as I'd really like to learn how to do this. You're a good teacher. Happy New Year to you!
Excellent. Could you please do a video showing the various graver tips and their proper use? There are so many choices and little info on when you use which one and why.
Thanks for the video. You can make a polarized filter for your iPhone from a lens of a pair of 3D glasses from the movies theater. That will help with controlling the light angles when filming. Or just buy a polarized microscope video camera. Such things exist.
Hey, this is super cool, and I would love to start practicing this at home. Is there a video anywhere of the basic tools that I would need? I think I’d like to start with a pneumatic device like this, until I get better. Would I just need the pneumatic graver and an air compressor?? Or are there other tools that are required? This is awesome.
At first there's really no need for anything other than a square graver 90deg. I do 90% of all my work with a 105. The differences are so subtle that it takes an experienced engraver to recognize the difference or have a need for them. I'll be sure to shoot a video on the topic. Thx
im beginning my journey into engraving specifically so i can engrave and inlay my colt python. i finished all sketches of both sides and now im gonna definitely spend a couple hundred hours perfecting all the designs i drew on some practice metal. i may go out and buy a few cheap POS black powder revolvers and gouge the hell out of them before i put my 1100 dollar colt on the chopping block.
Awesome! Appreciate these videos as someone just getting into engraving. What do you use for scribe? I find it difficult to even scribe my drawings onto piece before even starting to engrave.
Do you always use your microscope or do you sometimes use a optivisor.? I have a Leika 60, but just can,t get used to it, I use a optivisor one hundred percent of the time. Any suggestions you can give me?
Hey just wondering. how thick does a piece of metal have to be for engraving. Is 1mm thick enough or does it have to be 2-3mm thick for engraving to be possible.
I recently showed this vid to my brother Enda, who's a master engraver, but who has never used any machines in his life, apart from his hands, and can no longer continue due to very bad arthritis in his hands. I was so into it at one point I started to blow the metal shaving away and realized I'm not actually doing it lol
I caught myself doing it and felt like I was a fool to myself. Thanks for mentioning it.

They have great magnifying glasses to set at your work bench! You can move them easily to see whatever part you are working on
YES, very talented, love watching, as others have said, show some completed works, your small engraving items are jaw dropping.

Great being here master we loves to see you out here leading a million project of wood factory in the Gambia west Africa
Absolutely Beautiful. You make it look so easy and I know it takes a lot of practice and dedicated. Thanks for sharing.
you have some incredible skill. I audibly said, "wow" while watching you work
That is so beautiful. Looking forwards to more video videos. And thank you for taking us along for the ride.

I was simply unaware how detailed engraving could get. Master at work.
This is the simple stuff. Stick around if you want to see more complex work!
Good set up for filming the engraving portion. It was super easy to see what you were doing.
Haven’t moved to the rest of this plate yet. I’m on a deadline with a massive Colt 1911 project. The second episode of that series covers shading.
I was about to comment on this asking about it
I'll be looking forwards to it, hopefully it won't be long, I surely do appreciate your generous / abundant patient sir. I've enjoyed a great deal looking at this video, (come to think about it, I think I was born to do this kind of trade for I never had this much fun) BIG THANK YOU.

I love watching your work.
This is art, unbelievable.
I think in hundred years of practice I don’t come near of it
With that kind of mindset you surely will never be as good. Cursing yourself that way isn't good.
My new favorite channel! You have introduced me into a new world!
Very interesting 🧐, you are very good and your advice is spot on. Thank you for sharing!
Sweet, the practice that it must have taken to make that look easy is mind blowing!
the first 10 years is the hardest. It gets easier from there.
@@MasterEngraverTV is that all! Seems easy enough! Lol
Thank you for making these videos! Engraving is a really interesting craft - I'm fascinated by how easy you make it look!
Thank you it's so cool. You can tell you cair about us learning. Not how cool you are. And know one will be as good as you. What's the best for the money tools.

HAVE YOU TRIED DOING ANY CUTTING ON VARIOUS BRONZE ALLOYS?! WHICH ALLOYS SEEM TO BE REALLY GOOD FOR PRACTICING ON?!...
I'm very happy to discover this excellent site! Thanks for your passion, focus, and easy teaching style.

Really looking forward to following you from 5k subs to a million.

Thanks!! And as an aside, rotary tools are not generally considered as hand engraving. Hand engraving involves chisels cutting metal away.
Very satisfying to watch!
Amazing work I have to say. I have been wanting to learn this, and this shows me just what I am in for.

Still working on a baseline for volume levels so this one has been adjusted.

Do you have plans to demonstrate jewelry engraving? For example, on the sides or gallery of a ring?
please hear thy request Master Engraver?

Thanks Mr. Zuelke.
You are an amazing artist. Thank you for publishing.

Beautiful work. Could you please do a tutorial about getting started? Equipment required, expected costs, good / bad products ,etc...
Yes! I would love to set up something like that at home
I do engraving for eork but with machines. I desperately want to learn hand engraving. It seems so satisfying.
This is my kind of tv i look forward to the next episode
That's crazy good... Idk where to begin when and how to shade .. 💯 🔥 AF
Audio is great!
How excellently done! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I can't seem to find episode 2 of this.
Awesome! Can’t wait to see more
You should think about setting up a Patreon account. It could help fund some specialised camera equipment!
It's a consideration. If the videos begin to cost me money by taking me away from the bench and I believe there is enough interest.
I love to know more about the different graver geometry’s and what they are used for

Is there an episode 2? Is this channel still alive and uploading? Awesome stuff!!
Super relaxing video man, I love it.
Beautiful work! As a suggestion for future content, could you show us how to make the printing plates for a $100 bill? 😁
I'd go with a $3 bill and sell them for $12 ha

Did you ever cover cross hatching? Is there an episode 2?
