Veinte años y muchas historias después, he comenzado a entenderla y tal vez extraño un poco la ignorancia de mi inocencia. Tal vez quisiera volver a ese momento en que disfrutaba la canción aún en el desconocimiento de esa profunda oscuridad propia de las estrellas errantes.
Algunos sí estamos condenados a la oscuridad... Herencia maldita. Tristeza eterna y melancolía por carácter. Errantes, sin saber amar y sin poder emprender nada fecundo en esta vida. Donde el único momento donde no sufriremos será cuando ya no despertemos más.

Este grupo junto a Massive Attack y otros grandes artistas como Bansky provienen de una ciudad en Reino Unido llamada Bristol. Les recomiendo mucho que investiguen acerca de la historia de este lugar, es MUY interesante. Además si les gusta mucho este tipo de música como la Portishead es muy probable que también disfruten de música como la de Massive Attack la cual cae en el género de Trip Hop :)
New Testament Epistle of Jude verse 13: "wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever." Just in case those of you who are unaware that it is a part of a verse from the Bible Epistle of Jude. Love this album. It is a classic. 🙏💕
It's the very fact wich causes many pauses for me. I'm both Terrified and Amazed somehow on the fence of what it's supposed to invoke (good/evil)W' Holy! Eerily aware of not fully knowing the answer.
Much of the album is pushing moral wisdoms taken from scripture and also from great novels and a reflection of the surroundings at that time. The lyrics to glory box are centred around the relationship between men and women in the modern age as independent equals. Sour times is a reflection of Bristol in the early 90’s post Harcliff and St. Paul’s riots, a dark divided city at times. Parts of Bristol was struggling with poverty and racism and the fallout from Thatchers 80’s Britain. Ironically it was the multi racial bands holding it together and uniting the city to be fair. The authorities just abandoned the youth or isolated us. Massive attack, another Bristol based band had similar discussions in their lyrics, so did Skunk Anansie. The darkness comes through all of Bristols music scene in that time. Trip hop, dub reggae and drum and bass scenes were all peaking. The track Protection by Massive attack is a hypothetical look at role reversal, where the woman is the protector in the relationship. They were trying to say it was ok for men to show emotion, feel fragile, something that was really missing in the youth at that time. Violence was rife. Caused by poverty and rejection. They were all intelligent band artists, well read and tapped into the Bristol life at that time. Banksys art was born out of that timeframe, anti authoritarian counter culture stance and loads of other great underground Graf artists in Bristol. Most of whom had been busted and jailed in a huge well over the top police op in the late 80’s. My favourite time of my life and feel thankful I lived there through it from the great graffiti artists to the bands and club scene, Ashton court festivals and the wisdom gained. It wasn’t always an easy place to live but I wouldn’t swap the memories for anything on earth and out of the darkness came something really great. Great timeless music and art usually does come from struggle though. Glad people like Beth, Robert del Naja, Adrian Thaws, Ady Utley and Skin all choose their lyric sources wisely.
