Well said. This is a very special band. Not my time as I am a 57 man . I worked for a young funky South London girl back in 1996 and she made me aware of this band and I've loved them ever since.
@@shadekiahpops8988 I'm 39, just on the other side of that musical bridge. I was too young to appreciate them and only in the last few years I've really looked back at some of that amazing music. I absolutely love it.
Omg, I was listening to this just a few nights ago. I've never read the comments here until now. I made a post on Facebook asking if anyone had a "perfect song". I narrowed it down to 3, this was one.
I wouldn't use user view counts as an indicator of what is "good". For example, Lil Pump and Kanye West have hundreds of millions of views for some videos... need I say more?
A man named Walker introduced me to this song. We listened to it together for years. He recently passed away but listening to this song will always keep his memory alive. RIP Walker♥️
Yup, I absolutely love Portishead's cover of ABBA's song "SOS." Not many people can turn a really happy upbeat song into some dark brutal emotional version that destroys you at the very core like Portishead. There'll never be like another band as good as the extremely talented Portishead.
If you are an old school video game player at all, you should give the TPR channel a listen. Really hits the spot for something "different". Especially the Final Fantasy 6, 7, and Chrono Trigger albums.
I'm doing okay. For two weeks now I'm not using Alprazolam or any anxiety pills. I hope you're all doing good as well. Hold tight, we'll overcome this situation together. Love and hugs!
How I loved the 90s. The culture was so varied, so exciting, especially the music. It felt like the days of racism, sexism etc were on their way out, and we were at the beginning of something great for humanity. We were so wrong. I would give anything to be back there at that time.
There is no such music cultures now as it was back then unfortunately. Look at the grunge scene, triphop, even electronic bands like The Prodigy were huge. There is hardly anything as diverse sub cultures nowadays unfortunately.
a great example of you don't need autotune, you just need *feeling* when you sing. Beth will always be one of my favotite singers because when you watch her, you feel that song.

I remember being like 16 yrs old listening to them , I am 40 now! The memories this brings back is amazing 💕 Now I've introduced my 14 yr old daughter to them ❤
I'm 50 now and a DJ of 36 years.. I remember receiving it on a white label. My Son who's 24 has taken samples from it and thrown em through an old 808.. The stuff he's creating is awesome.. Makes me proud.. Born wit headphones on.. Haha..
Why were the 90's such an incredible time for music.. Those of us who were teenagers in the 90's were incredibly lucky, so many amazing, trailblazing bands, in every genre . I'll be forever grateful I was a 90's kid, proud to be of the MTV generation 😆 For all it's faults, it gave me the gift of discovering bands I would otherwise never have, thanks to programs like 120 minutes and many others. Thank u MTV, and thank u glorious 90's ❤
I'm too guarded. I would never be a vocalist. I could never let myself be so vulnerable. Over the years I have come to respect singers for their courage to express emotion.
I had a friend who sadly took her own life. This was back in the late 90's. I was listening Dummy at the time a lot, and Roads was one of my favorite. It still is, but it's still really hard to listen to, it makes me cry a lot every time I hear it.
@@StinkyGreenBudit did for a bit in the nineties, it's just that a lot of them tried to be portishead too much. Barely innovated, everyone was just making spacey beats and recruiting any female vocalist that sung in a whisper
Absolutely love it.. many years later and it still gives me goosebumps! I remember the day I first heard Portishead, playing in a weird lil shop in a side street somewhere in downtown Orlando.. back in 1998.. I was working in the US for a year from hometown Johannesburg, South Africa. I remember the smell of the shop, the assistance behind the counter and even some of the goods on the counter (smiley face pinups!) .. this music was and is part of so many days in my life!

@@kustomkure I enjoyed the music from the 1990's but the 1980's were more eclectic and exciting . For me the 1960's and the 1980's are still my favourite musical decades. ps plenty of great music around nowadays eg LP, Low, London Grammar, Interpol, The Kills, Daughter , First Aid Kit etc etc just bought the new National album. Outstanding ! "Oblivions" is a beautiful and oh so subtle track . Love the female co vocalists.
Legendary, it was something in the air back then, neither innocent or clean, yet very genuine, a feeling of loss and decadence, and I miss it, I can't sense it any more
I often remember past times by the feeling in the air. It fascinates me to think that despite photos etc we can never know that feel of the atmosphere in history. You’re right, the 90s had a quality, even though they were somehow less well known than the 80s.
One of the few bands where the singers voice was even more impressive in person than on the studio albums. Saw them at coachella quite a few years back, truly beautiful.
I am 64 but I really like Portishead. I only discovered them whilst googling Portishead when our neighbours moved to said town ! Roads is absolutely awesome and Beth Gibbons puts such passion into it.
This song always hits me. So many moments have been accompanied by the "Dummy" album. 25 Years later I sit here, in this moment........ having the feels.
All "older" people on the stage. The feelings of love, emptiness, loneliness, fear, isolation, guilt, sadness, regret etc doesnt end, I knows! Sleep tight!

@@shadekiahpops8988 I'm 39, just on the other side of that musical bridge. I was too young to appreciate them and only in the last few years I've really looked back at some of that amazing music. I absolutely love it.
Nailed it!!!
Omg, I was listening to this just a few nights ago. I've never read the comments here until now. I made a post on Facebook asking if anyone had a "perfect song". I narrowed it down to 3, this was one.
@@kimkoncki3684 you can't not tell us the other two
My all-time favorite by Portsihead. Love this band and Beth Gibbons
NO MMS CON TU NADIE LA CONOCE. PERO TIENES RAZON EN QUE RIFAN CHINGONSISIMO
This song is so fucking good. Portishead is easily one of the most influential, yet least talked about bands of the early 90s.
I swear, not enough people appreciate this music!
xDark Sky555x You gonna campaign?
Dam right hauntinly beauitful
Amber Samson 41 million is not enough? There's nothing original here. This Mortal Coil and Cocteau Twins haven't amassed 41m views.
41M of views? No so bad eh.
This song is a trip...
Today Walker is alive with me. Love.

this is one of the great moments in music history. my soul has rarely been touched like this
That woman is legendary. She is a slayer. No one on earth like that Queen
Makes me think about life so deeply.
Fucking brilliant . Beth Gibbons is a beautiful and an amazing woman .
Yup, I absolutely love Portishead's cover of ABBA's song "SOS." Not many people can turn a really happy upbeat song into some dark brutal emotional version that destroys you at the very core like Portishead. There'll never be like another band as good as the extremely talented Portishead.
Doesnt come close to anything by Portishead
+MrPushbutin not sure I understand she is lead singer of Portishead.
"Out of Season".
goddess I worship daily :) Aum
2024…still draws tears.
It's 2023 and this is still one of the greatest performances ever
I am clinically depressed and Beth Gibbons, Thom Yorke, Steven Wilson keeps me alive. I'm grateful.

If you are an old school video game player at all, you should give the TPR channel a listen. Really hits the spot for something "different". Especially the Final Fantasy 6, 7, and Chrono Trigger albums.
I hope things get better man.
God bless
Hang in there buddy. It gets easier.
Yes,all we have now is the outrage police.
@@nonameslb what a culture. lol
back when people weren't assholes
a great example of you don't need autotune, you just need *feeling* when you sing. Beth will always be one of my favotite singers because when you watch her, you feel that song.
So haunting, soul piercing, and absolutely gorgeous song. Euphoria every time.
You know you have a good singer when live sounds this awesome
Truth
If you watch the concert shes chainsmokin through the entire concert just about lighting one with the other. Different times for sure!
Beth is a Queen. She even smokes a cigarette on stage during this concert.
i think recorded live performances are over rated, but this is flawless
digital sound is terrible though

Frozen to myself

Most sublime piece of music ever written.
I listen to this song about every year or so I never want to over play it. It’s too good I love to savour this absolute masterpiece.
Wow, it's 10 years ago that I uploaded this video. Back then Portishead wasn't so well known (in my town anyway), and uploading purely for the sake of sharing good music.
And look at the views now! Amazing. Thank you Portishead and thank you all that spent time on this track.
One world, one love.
any idea where to buy exactly that version in high quality?

Thank you for uploading it. After all these years this song still moves me deep inside.
A timeless masterpiece. Portishead is out of this world
nah mate, they're just out of Portishead
Yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss😎😎😎😎😎
You haver to have known pain like that, to appreciate the feeling she put behind this amazing timeless piece.

Jolie. L'historie je suis colombiane
I remember being like 16 yrs old listening to them , I am 40 now! The memories this brings back is amazing 💕 Now I've introduced my 14 yr old daughter to them ❤
🤣 I'm 48 and I can't wait to let my kids hear this and see what they make of it? 🤷♂️ I still get close to tears listening to it! 👌🧡
I'm 50 now and a DJ of 36 years.. I remember receiving it on a white label. My Son who's 24 has taken samples from it and thrown em through an old 808.. The stuff he's creating is awesome.. Makes me proud.. Born wit headphones on.. Haha..
Same here!
Same
I concur!
she felt it when she sang it. I felt it when I heard it. I'm in love with this.
Makes me tear everytime, thank you Beth.
Why were the 90's such an incredible time for music.. Those of us who were teenagers in the 90's were incredibly lucky, so many amazing, trailblazing bands, in every genre .
I'll be forever grateful I was a 90's kid, proud to be of the MTV generation 😆
For all it's faults, it gave me the gift of discovering bands I would otherwise never have, thanks to programs like 120 minutes and many others.
Thank u MTV, and thank u glorious 90's ❤
She is literally tearing apart on stage, she seems so fragile in this performance... one of the reasons that makes me emotional this song, to this day
She sings this with such emotion. Incredible.
I'm too guarded. I would never be a vocalist. I could never let myself be so vulnerable. Over the years I have come to respect singers for their courage to express emotion.
I grew up listening to Portishead. Legendary
I had a friend who sadly took her own life. This was back in the late 90's. I was listening Dummy at the time a lot, and Roads was one of my favorite. It still is, but it's still really hard to listen to, it makes me cry a lot every time I hear it.
Came here from her feature on Mother I Sober with Kendrick Lamar. Happy to say I’m hear to stay😮💨
Seeing her name on the track list made my heart skip. Knew that second I'd be crying, and I was right.
One of the greatest live performances ever. Even better than the studio version
This whole set is top tier Portishead. Shame triphop never took off like all the other shitty genres did.
@@StinkyGreenBudit did for a bit in the nineties, it's just that a lot of them tried to be portishead too much. Barely innovated, everyone was just making spacey beats and recruiting any female vocalist that sung in a whisper
It was the favourite song of my sister Maryna. Many years ago we listened it together, but today she’s in the sky.
This song helped me through some pretty tough times growing up. I feel like the world stops for 5 minutes every time watching this ❤️
So true!
100%
+Mandy S the world does stop during that song.
+Mandy S all these crazy comments..the meaning of life is not to" find yourself" its to" create yourself."..ye i understand..so nice u get 5 mins so do i..x

This masterpiece of a song makes me feel both joyful and sad at the same time
catharsis, the emotional relief you feel from letting go.
Fantastic performance. Beths vocals and those strings are to die for
This is not just a song, it's a kind of medicine which can kick in immediately...
The '90's really had great music.
plus one to that..
the best decade for music. undoubtedly
Sure did!
So did/does the other decades of the "rock and roll years " (1954 /present )
"Great music has lived , lives and will live "
@@kustomkure I enjoyed the music from the 1990's but the 1980's were more eclectic and exciting .
For me the 1960's and the 1980's are still my favourite musical decades.
ps plenty of great music around nowadays eg LP, Low, London Grammar, Interpol, The Kills, Daughter , First Aid Kit etc etc
just bought the new National album. Outstanding !
"Oblivions" is a beautiful and oh so subtle track . Love the female co vocalists.
Legendary, it was something in the air back then, neither innocent or clean, yet very genuine, a feeling of loss and decadence, and I miss it, I can't sense it any more
Said very well. I feel it too. ✌🏼🍀
Ohh yesss
I often remember past times by the feeling in the air. It fascinates me to think that despite photos etc we can never know that feel of the atmosphere in history. You’re right, the 90s had a quality, even though they were somehow less well known than the 80s.
@@anna-louisebrown8348 please . I would like to hear more about your perception on this matter
Your comment gave me shivers and deep feeling of sadness. Your description is so much on point.
What a masterpiece. This is my favorite from Portishead.
Grew up in the 90s and I'm still ALWAYS jamming Portishead! Thank you guys! 🙌🙌
One of the few bands where the singers voice was even more impressive in person than on the studio albums. Saw them at coachella quite a few years back, truly beautiful.
You lucky lucky man. Voice of an angel.
Excellent vocals for certain. Just tremendous

Possibly the most beautiful and heart wrenching song ever made.
Agree!

Your user-name speaks volumes..............
Another cynical valley soul bloke she sends shiver what a fantastic women
i second that.
For Amanda Todd. Bullied until she decideded to end her life - 15 years old. I'll remember you.
+August Greig exactly
Every time I listen to Portishead...I feel as pure as a child.
Hi I'm Kara Rae Ophelia That’s beautiful put, I agree.
❤
It's not the cool beats that binds Portishead together.... It's Beth's pain and raw emotion. This song truly demonstrates that.
Great Portishead!
Imagine also the rush of every single member of the orchestra being part of this irreplaceable moment in music history!!
Let's keep it real Ethel. This is a fine pop song & all that. Nothing wrong with it. But doesn't hold a candle to Vivaldi or Mozart.
@@adrianiles4754 Why wouldnt you feel a rush to a pop song? They are probably utterly bored with playing Mozart concerts lol
