I really liked the way Ikoma became a Kabaneri because it reflects his intelligence and determination to test his theory even at the risk of his own life There's something badass about obtaining power through your own efforts rather than it being bestowed upon you
he didn't feed himself to kabane intentionally, so he tested his theory just because it was a desperate measure to survive, not because he were hungry for experimental data or something :)

never understood why people didn't like this anime. In my opinion it was really great! Story, characters, and even the plot too. There is still so much unkown about the disease and that in alone adds such a mystery. And the idea of liquid iron zombies, how metal is that.
Boring character progression, predictable, rushed, the zombies were stupid. It was a dogsht anime. If it didn't have the animation nobody would have even tried it. It literally survived on AOT hype.

Also, SNK aired in 2013 and KNK aired in 2016 being an original anime, the "bad timing" thing only made it more obvious, putting aside all the basic stuff that KNK copied from SNK story but with another skin that were so obvious, people literally called this show things like "Attack on Trains" and such. Again, I don't care if the show was good or bad, but is so obvious that it was trying to copying SNK to take advantage of the formula it used.

The way he stopped himself from turn had two reasons: #1 it tested his theory about the curse and have a way to stop people from turning off they are chasing quick enough and in the right location to pull it off & #2 if he was wrong the machine would have kept him away from others and probably ripped his head off since he wouldn't be able to stop it since he was now a monster.😮
Little bit of info for the new guys. The creatures in this series are called Kabene. Basically theyre zombies however the one thing that separates kabane from a zombie is that they're tough. Their flesh is super heated and the thing keeping them alive is harder than steel. If you ever have the choice between a resident evil apocalypse or a kabane apocalypse. The resident evil is the better option. These things are scary just by themselves. Theyre able to actually pool their bodies together into one massive monstrosity and holy hell that thing scared the shit out of me.
Some of the most harcore shit right there. I really enjoyed Kabaneri. I know a lot of people wrote it off as an "AOT clone" but man this show was something special.
indeed, i love both of the show, but there're some special differences between those two that can't be compared. This show might have the similar vibe with AOT, but the MC here doesn't have a "super power" great enough to beat those monster, he's just a small man trying to survive, and can fulfill nothing without his friends, like all of the peoples in the show (not mumei haha). It's just this show aren't released the right time.......
People compare this anime to aot but i compare it to mobile suit gundam...next gen fighter realize they are powerful so they help a military transport fight off enemies as they move from base to base

I enjoyed this anime and watching it first (before the Battle at Seagate) made the movie soooo much better! The series was good the movie was great- but have to watch in order for the movie to have that emotional punch. Series then Seagate movie- and try not to compare it to other similar anime, the experience is imho much better that way. Cheers!
it has its moments but they wasted a lot of potential in the story nearing the end. I loved the early to mid where it was just a fight for survival on the train but at the end they whipped out the old human vs human political shenanigans. In my opinion the wrong step to the hole story but thats my preference I guess You will know when you see it. The last fight/episode was still epic

I mean this one basically lost it when a random scrap of metal riveted onto someone’s rib cage and lungs plus a metal choker can keep a person from being zombified yet also not brain-dead from zero blood circulation. No number of fit train drivers or high budget animation sequences of a waif can recover from a plot point that idiotic.
@@IRMentat Not really, it originally seemed to have it's own fair share of rules, IE heat, steam, enough force can kill the zombies and virus, but also the virus can be a last ditch effort to heal/regenerate wounds, then woop look at that, they optionally chose to go through the vastly more lethal path rather than the safe slower path, then slowly but surely "they died to a thousand cuts", then woop look at that the virus makes super soldiers and oh damnit now look it makes zombies shoot laser all of a sudden.
It's honestly just too bad that this anime started so promisingly, and then went to shit immediately, lol. This anime would've been way, way fucking better if Ikouma had died and Mumei became the main character, and if they didn't use that stupid magic zombie subplot. It was cool when the zombie's muscle memory let it access the corpse's skills and stuff, but as soon as they did that magic zombie shit I just fucking lost it, lol. That, and Ikouma dying would've been a fucking huge boost to the plot in terms of Mumei's character development along with the rest of the cast. The show would've been 1000x better if they had done this. I mean, they technically could do a follow up series and do just this, but it's just way too fucking late now because it's been years since this shit released.

There's basically 0 meaningful character development, and the main plot point is just hilariously bad. Ikouma basically experiences 0 character growth after they head towards the capital (or wherever the fuck they were going). They push Mumei from side character to secondary character, and do absolute fuck-all with that and throw her back into a side character role to "support" Ikouma's "character development". Which ultimately leads to a mediocre payoff. The princess gets pushed from side character to secondary character as well, but nothing happens from that either outside of the small bit of a romantic subplot. As for the magic zombie bullshit? I don't even need to begin to explain why that was insanely dogshit. It just completely destroyed any immersion that had been built up by all events prior to it being introduced. So, yeah, man, it's a good thing that I don't write plots because if I did we wouldn't have so much trash anime floating around. We'd actually have good shit to watch.

Worth a watch. Enjoyable due to great visuals and soundtrack. It hurts slightly due to the plot being a less than desired, but I still recommend it
