- Changing spark plugs on a Benz isn't rocket science. Mark shows you in detail how to change the plugs on a V6 Benz. It's a job most people could do with just a few common tools. So do it yourself and use the money you save to send your kids to college.

1. No need for anti-seize as the plugs you have are the platinum plugs.
2. You need to check for a 0.8 gap between the plug
3. Proper torque between 15-20 lbs
News flash - Platinum plugs are not made from platinum - only the tip of the centre electrode is platimunm
my apologies, so i could have put anti seize on my laser platinum plugs from ngk?
@@jonahhitchcock5821 anti-seize is a good insurance you can remove the plugs easily in 80kMi without stripped frozen threads.
The flip side is its easier to over torque the assembly 😂
@@jonahhitchcock5821 wow
@@glasser2819 If you set your torque wrench @ 15-25 lbs-ft, how can it over torque?
Thanks for a thorough explanation!
My pleasure
thanks for a good video, we are waiting for more.
cheers from Canada!
Dealership in Rochester NY quoted $500 for plugs replacement on 2012 GLK350
Yes that's common - they can charge whatever they like
Totally different access to the spark plugs when MB went with Direct Injections. Its a 3-5hr job per the book, its not anywhere close to what was in the video and all other port injected MB V6. 2012 + V6 are all DI and require 3-5hrs of labor to get the plugs done.
i don't use spark plug sockets for exactly the reason you showed--the rubber seal inside makes the plug stick and the socket comes loose from the extension. then its time to break out the long needle-nose pliers.
+happy543210 Put a little spit or WD40 on the plug insulator and it won't stick - if it does take a piece of paper towel and put that over the end of the extension and shove it back on to make an extra tight fit with the socket
+happy543210 I have a spark plug socket with a magnet it's the best!!
just spit on it or use a little silicon lube on insulater
Auto Zone sells a spark plug socket that has the socket, boot, small universal joint, small magnet and a 6”inch I believe extension all in one. Around $20 and has been a dedicated spark plug socket for around 10 years and about seven vehicles. Worked like a champ even on the rear bank of a front wheel drive vehicle. No plugs falling off socket or breakage. Best $20 I spent and has well out lived its initial expectations. Total fluke that all my vehicles were the 5/8 spark plug sockets. You can add another extension if needed but I have been able to work with the 6” extension provided. Loosen and tighten and leave the socket installed and switch out the ratchet to a torque wrench........
As they say.....so simple a caveman could do it!!
What’s the cylinder number layout?

Yes correct Justin - thanks for posting - Cheers From Canada!
I winced when you put the new plug in not using a torque wrench. Way too much torque. 16 lbs-ft ain't much. Looked like you put 30 or more on it.
Thank you for upload this

What is the gap on the plugs suppose to be ?
Pre gapped - don't bother
Mercedes spec is .031"
Is a little oil on the spark plugs normal?
Nope - got to fix that - most likely a PCV gasket or hose system fault or a cam cover sealing issue - get it fixed asap since your oil level will run dangerously low in some cases Kelvin
carquestions is the pcv gasket the oil separator behind the engine? is it like a plastic cap with a hose connected to it?
The PCV system has lots of parts - an oil separator, fresh air intake side, suction side, pcv valve, rubber hoses etc - try and find an image of the system on google - all liquids flow down so try and pinpoint the source of the leak first - wash the area and recheck what is getting wet first
okay so what do you think is the problem if theres a little oil on the thread only?

Your link doesn't work - find the origin of the leak - clean the engine
Did you calibrated the gap on each spark?
Yes I always check them - but they come pre gapped for the last 20 years or so
These plugs come pre-gapped.
it's a good exercise to check for parts quality so you minimize the chances to redo the job twice for a porcelain crack or smashed tip on returned inventory... I guess $20 Ea. ensures a level expectation us met
seemed like he tightened the living heck outta that plug. shouldn't the plugs be tightened at a specific torque...aluminum head and block right...
+djdramatical Yes you should torque it - but having have done it successfully without torquing it hundreds of times I didn't bother but you're right I should have
+djdramatical You just stop when you crush the washer no torque wrench needed!!
some people are trained to follow procedure to the T... others know what time it is
Did you just put a Japanese NGK plugs in and German car that should have Bosch plugs in it??
+bigdaddymak1439 Sure did - and it has been running like a charm ever since - NGK is an OEM supplier
Mercedes no longer uses Bosch. They use NGK Iridium spark plugs.
so you don't need a deep socket if you have the extension?
snarter not harder
plug socket makes a difference too
Will this video work for 16 e350 Mercedes
It should since it's the same engine - Cheers and good luck!
what the NGK spark plug number you used......
I checked on line at NGK website - make sure you have the correct info for your engine when searching is the best advice
Dealer wanted $600 for plugs on 2013 C300
Oh ya - seems about right - totally not worth it
