I'd like to point out at 15:18 it's not a demonic insignia, it's a sign he's a devote believer in Saint Peter, whos symbol is an upside down cross as he asked to be crucified upside down cos he didn't think he was worthy of being done the same was a Jesus or something. Not sure why the conjuring series seems to have Saint Peter having such a prominent role, but maybe they're just a fan of his.
Sadly most people mistake a upside down cross for something evil. Conjuring films fed that belief, and now cult wannabes, and satan loving goths wear upside down crosses not realizing what it actually means.
For some reason flipping a cross upside down is seen as evil by people who know very little about it (I think they see it as mocking the cross, but that's just a guess), and it doesn't seem like the creators of this movie did a lot of research into Catholicism before making a horror movie based around a catholic nun fighting a demon
Yeah, the Conjuring made it canon basically that upside down cross= demon symbol. You can even see the demon wearing it. In other movies, you can see crosses turning on the wall upside down to symbolize demon presence. I've also seen it in other media being used like this, one that comes in mind is the game Lucius.
There is a murderer known as frenchie, or Maurice working at a bording school. Also some people might call him the space cowboy. Damn, what's that song called again?

I believe Frenchie is the man that Ed and Lorraine exorcise shortly after the events of the Nun 2. He dies in the process. It’s also where Lorraine first encounters Valek!
The Warrens don’t perform the exorcism, a priest does. They just attended the ritual and probably gathered evidence of true possession beforehand. It also turns out that outside of the Priest in the Nun, no other knew Valaks name until Lorraine in the Conjuring 2. So it was a pseudo exorcism at best.
The trope of the upside down cross being “demonic” or “satanic” always cracks me up because saint peter chose to be crucified on an upside down cross because he wasn’t worthy to die the same way Christ did. It’s basically acknowledging Christ’s holiness.
Yeah I still wonder why they don't give water guns with holy water or blessed wine. They literally sent one of their best nun with clairvoyance and a child nun with nothing. Some guys.
As small to your script it is as a catholic i appreciate you mention how our belief says the wine used in the sacrament IS turned into the blood of Christ.
My favorite part in all of this is that the priest learned Valaks name in the first Nun movie yet somehow never communicated that to anyone else….he never uses it against the demon either…. Somehow the blood of Christ is weaker than a demons actual name when it comes to truly banishing it….but they’ve had it since the fucking first movie…everything that’s followed has been that priests fault for not communicating that to fucking anyone else…writing is so fucking bad…
Would anyone mind explaining the idea of valak to me? I don’t need much I’m just confused I haven’t watched either of the movies and I want to understand them
Here's the rundown: "Hey guys, this cheap jumpscare horror movie about the ghost hunter craze sold insanely well. We made a bajillion sequels, but there's gotta be more money here. I GOT IT. Take the demon and give it its own spinoff." That's it. It's not a well-thought-through horrory mystery, it's a cheap cash grab with some jumpscares. There's no lore to be unearthed and no story to be pieced together. Valak's an evil demon, the church makes them go away, demon can come back whenever for sequel's sake; that's the story.
Valak is also known as the demon Valak the defouler and they first spoke of it in the movie "The Conjuring 2". Here it's "supposably" that Lorraine Warren alone send this very powerful demon back to hell where it belongs, but I REALLY don't believe that for a second, then they made the movie "The Nun" which is a prequel to the movie "The Conjuring 2". It tells the story of how Valak got accidentally set free in a now completely forsaken and unholy old monestary in France. Irene also plays the part of the main character alongside a priest. She is also still a novice and not a fully pledged nun. Frenchie ends up saving her life but he got possessed by Valak, which the priest and Irene think was sent back to hell... They showed the audience at the very end of the movie namely an upside down cross under Frenchie's skin in his neck which is a hint that there will be a second movie with Valak again... And of course then out came the movie "The Nun 2"... And now there's going to be a third and last movie which I REALLY hope is as scary and eerie as the first movie of "The Nun" !!!
I’m the conjuring verse Valak is an Angel that was rejected by god and was banished to hell and going off Valak’s real world lore he supposedly is one of (or is) the king of hell and is incredibly powerful.
