I've always had a soft spot for these older D series Rainbows. I have 3 variants of the D4, one being a regular D4c, another being the SE, and another SE with the PN2. Out of the 3, I personally like the SE with the old style PN1, those heads usually have better airflow than the PN2, though those have better agitation. I think the happy medium would be buy a new CWP brush roll with all brush strips, and those improve cleaning performance drastically.
If anything, this 34 year old machine still effectively out performs most vacuum cleaners on the market today. It isn’t just water but a centrifugal high speed rotational separator on the motor and most dirt inside the water basin gets absorbed into the water and the roiling action like a tropical storm also keeps it there. Don’t pick up anything in fine powders and you’re fine. Then again most bagged and bagless machines choke and die when you pick up fine powderdue to not using a bypass motor like the Rainbow and Cana-Vac Signature vac units.
When I was a kid, I had two neighbors that had this model, my family had a slightly older D4 model. Great machines
Yes Rainbow Vacuum is alway the best forever ❤❤❤
