Russell Crowe on the stories behind his watches, and why he’s selling them.

    2:48 Breitling Superocean Chrono
    3:45 Breitling Avenger Seawolf
    4:25 Rolex Yacht-Master
    5:03 Cartier Tank Americaine Chronograph
    6:09 Rolex Daytona
    7:11 Omega Speedmaster Professional
    7:49 Michelsen Reykjavik
    8:19 Rolex Cellini
    8:43 Chopard Classic Date
    9:24 Vacheron Constantin Jubilee 1755
    10:03 Panerai Luminor Submersible
Late last year, Russell Crowe announced that he was auctioning off some of his possessions, from movie props to art and, intriguingly for us, watches. In early February, Rusty tweeted again, giving us some more detail on the watches he was selling. The tweet included a blurry picture of a Panerai, and subsequent posts ran through some of the brands he was selling, and that the watches - in many cases - related to specific films or projects. Crowe also noted that the watches represented half his collection. It was clear that Crowe wasn’t just a man who owned a few nice watches, he was a collector. And given that the April 7 auction was happening in our own backyard, we knew we had to act.
This video is the result. Hit play and hear what Russell Crowe himself has to say about his watches, highlights of the provocatively titled ‘Russell Crowe: The Art of Divorce’ auction, held in Sydney on the 7th of April, 2018.
Read about the results from Russell Crowe's auction:

Russell is the nicest guy ever. I casually met him in Milan in a downtown backstreet...he was having a beer sitting down in the summer sun wearing a white wife-beater😎
No bodyguards, available for everyone to take a photo.
" Gladiator " still brings me to tears.
I hope this collection sells very well.

Russell Crowe is not always the nicest guy. The trouble that he was referring to while he was in NYC was probably connected to the time he assaulted a hotel worker for no apparent reason. I think he threw a telephone at him and injured him, and had to go to court over it.

Even though many of the watches are not the most sought out ones or the most eye popping I really enjoyed Russell talk about his stories behind them. Since a big part of the celebrity scene just gets watches left and right without knowing anything about the watch itself or has any REAL specific meaning to them besides that it makes them ''looking sharp''.

As a Watch Collector myself I think that it must have hurt him to sell his Watch Collection.
In his The Art of Divorce or The Art of War, each watch represented a period of "time" in his life that cannot be replaced. Russell's ex wife obviously had no feelings about what each watch meant to Russell or did she out of spite?
I also thought it was sad Russell had a collection of items from all his movies he had to put up for auction in his "Art of Divorce" as well.
    PRE NUP NEXT TIME RUSSELL!

That Panerai GMT is dope. I am one of the rare guys who has crazy about watches but limits myself to just one nice piece at a time. Therefore, I don't think I could have that as my only watch since I tend to stick with straight up tool watches or divers. I really don't like leather straps on anything other than a proper dress watch which, still, I prefer on bracelet usually. But, these Panerai look so gorgeous on a somewhat distressed leather strap or at least something that's not glossy. Man, I got to stop writing about this watch or I'm going to think about getting one. Right now rocking a Tudor Pelagos LHD. I got it with bracelet but immediately put on an aftermarket rubber strap which looks super killer, makes it even lighter which is pretty funny since it weighs practically nothing. anyway, and, since I never take it off, ever, it is good to go in and out of the shower, the ocean, the gym, wherever! It really is a brilliant watch. Oh, and while I really like Breitling actually, I know, a lot of haters out there... But, anyway, I can't stand the Heritage II. I feel like they were just trying to combine two many elements and styles and feel that they missed the mark. and yes I know is a shout out to the past But it just doesn't work for me. They just tried too hard. I do really like some of the Superocean line however. those Breitling peeps sure build some beefy real deal divers though. Overbuilt almost, LOL. Sadly, they make a super legit to a watch and then they put high polish on the entire thing. I can't believe they can sell enough of those to keep making full high polish tool watches. and this is a pretty cool video. it's kind of refreshing to see a superstar who just seem to have pick the watches that he likes and that meant something to him one way or another. They are, pretty much, just ordinary watches entry-level kind of stuff for the most part... some really nice pieces but it's not all showy and super exclusive like a lot of the celebs get into...

What's wrong with divorces in Hollywood? This should not happen! He deserves his wealth to the fullest. He is one of the best actors from Australia ever, besides Mel Gibson. ;-) His acting is pure and full of life. I like every movie he is in and some I love, like "a good year". Amazing man. Most of these comments are absolutely ridiculous. Just because he doesn’t have a collection of watches you armchair horological experts approve of his collection is shit? Not everyone buys just to earn browny points, trying to appease strangers on the web. There are still people out there who buy something just because they like it believe it or not. Get a grip, this guy’s a legend and doesn’t need a Lange, Patek, Journe, etc. to prove anything to anyone.

He states in a different interview about the auction that it may be called, "The Art of Divorce," but that doesn't mean he has to sell this stuff to pay for the divorce. He has plenty of money to settle the divorce. He goes on to say that there was a time in his life when he felt like he needed all of this stuff, so he collected. Now, he's embraced more of a minimalist attitude, so it's just time to say goodbye to a lot of stuff. FYI, this auction contained a whole lot of different stuff, not just watches.

I had two watches I simply loved and wouldn’t dare get myself to sell, but something happened and I couldn’t bear to keep them, so I gave them away. The memory was too harsh if I kept them!.

Actually it is a VERY good taste collection. Before you guys start to bash me , those watches actually are NOT very expensive models. Some are 3K to 5K models. It is more good taste and functionality than show off. Panerai is great but is NOT shiny and flamboyant at all. If you dont know about watches you never realize the value of each one. Very nice collection indeed.

Some beautiful watches in that auction.
I have a Raymond Veil dress watch that slips on my wrist and feels like a million quid.
My late wife gave it to me for Christmas.
    I love it.
Also I did have a Tag ,that's a proper watch.
    I would love a Breitling.
