another super video Les some great captures there matey , nice to see the 68 still getting some work and the H S Ts still going strong on the measurement train loved it thanks for sharing Les top man👍
Hi Les I don’t know if you have already done this but you being a local and Carlisle being such an important point on the railway I would like to know more about the station buildings because they look interesting and I am absolutely sure that the history of the railways around Carlisle over time must be interesting also. I have used the station a couple of times in the past but I did not have time to explore it but it seems the railway infrastructure in the area has been vast.
Thanks. It has crossed my mind to do a video or two about the station but the's a lot to cover for the whole railway infrastructure in Carlisle.Maybe a few days preparing a script and then filming to cover aspects of it might be worthwhile.
@@LeslieGilpinRailways I did the Hadrian's Wall walk a while back and in the Carlisle area I was very surprised at what railway infrastructure was there and what was long gone. A large bridge over the river - Borders railway??
I suspect the Avanti/TPE thing was connections. Was that Class 66 'Hanjin Express' the one that had the final leg of the first overland freight service from China? Made the headlines back then, and forgotten about nowadays. I suspect that 'dismal' and 'grey' didn't figure in the reason for double heading. The rest? Probably. What was the source of that 'ticking' at the end? It reminded me of something that had nothing to do with railways. A real mixed bag, Les.
The Avanti train was running late but caught up the TPE train. Hanjin Express is also named Senator Express on the other side, I now discover. Both names to commemorate a 2003 contract with the shipping groups. The ticking comes from 57307 which had been powered down after its afternoon start-up and tick over. All the diesel units do it to some extent after being powered down. Mixed bag? Variety Pack!
@@LeslieGilpinRailways That makes sense, Les. I was thinking of a stand-by generator in a building I was based in for several years. It was started up on occasion, I suspect for the same reason as the '57'. 'Variety pack' sounds so much better quality than my 'mixed bag'. Merry Christmas.
It amazes me that there are still “castle cement” liveried wagons out there as the company itself is long gone… By the way Castle cement has a special place in my memory as my dad worked for them in Pitstone, Bucks. I remember touring the place as a child. It is now a housing estate but the offices where my dad worked is still standing as it is a listed building. Ironic that it is a rake of five as that is how many I have in my model… so even i in my limited space have a full length train. I do wish someone would model the “Climate change” Avanti set too.
It is surprising how old names linger. I suspect its down to the wagon leasing contract. The train has become a shadow of its former self, being 14 wagons until the unfortunate derailment occurred.
A great video Les,especially you out in the cold and damp. That’s dedication.
Absolutely - Carlisle at times is very mild but it can get really cold and windy in the station! Thanks for watching
Another great video. Thanks for all your other videos over the past year
Seasons greetings to you and yours.
Thank you very much!
Movimentação de trem feliz natal ai
Thanks!
Very good Leslie. Love the quiet ending with that tick tick ticking in the background. All the best.
Thanks Tim
