    I came arcoss this video by accident. This was a great show. I hadn't seen this before, because it was before my time. I remember Geoff Edwards was the California lottery host for a while in the 1980's.

    I never realized how good Geoff was - I'm sure at least some of his prize reveals were totally ad-libbed.

    • @SonnyBubba
      @SonnyBubba 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They weren’t ad libbed, but during the commercial when the contestant is deciding to keep the money, Geoff is getting a briefing from the producer about the basics of the sketch.
      It’s generally up to him to decide how far to draw out the contestant’s anxiety.

      The $1,400 in beef in 1974 was about 1,000 pounds. Several years of Sunday steak dinners.

    A lot of the closing credits names I do remember very vividly from my days in TV production back in the mid '70s...especially John Dorsey and Walt Case...two of the biggest, funniest screw-up teams in game show history! Miss them both. This WAS their talent at the very best...and thank you too, Geoff, for bringing it all together in the best deadpan way. RIP you guys.

    Johnny Jacobs a legend in game show voice overs.

    • @kevinfitzmaurice4072
      @kevinfitzmaurice4072 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Johnny Jacobs really was a superb announcer. Besides his long association with Chuck Barris, Jacobs worked in radio and television with Steve Allen, Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball, Jack Barry, Rosemary Clooney, Doris Day, Ernie Kovacs, Groucho Marx, and Betty White, among others. Jacobs died at 65 in 1982.

    To remind the younger audience how different the world was in 1976, no state had a lottery, and Atlantic City was still a couple years away from allowing gambling. Las Vegas was it.
    TV game shows in the 60s were low stakes (winning $500 on Password was a big deal.) Treasure Hunt and the $10,000 Pyramid were some of the first big money game shows since the 21 scandal of the 50s.
    So the chance to win a big prize was a once in a lifetime thing. Not at all like today “I lost, so I’ll buy another powerball ticket tomorrow.

  • @SchizoidMan100

    Well, one thing is for sure...If you are going to try a revival, you can't be subtle about what you give away. Geoff and company revived the show in "81 in a great effort, but most everything was low-ball compared to what they used to give away. You need a check for $1,000,000, lots of trips and lot of cars. You also need a new "Klunk" song. That one they used sounds like throwing up to disco music!

    I,ve that last year that it,s so iconic the original host of Treasure Hunt The late Jan Murray made numerous appearances on The Hollywood Squares with Peter Marshall--I,m very surprised that the late Geoff Edwards who hosted The New Treasure Hunt didn,t also appear on The Hollywood Squares or even the creator of Treasure Hunt & other shows as well as host of THE GONG SHOW--the late Chuck Barris!!

    They should bring this show back on the air but they should give the guys a chance as much as the ladies.However the grand prize should be $2,500,000 along with 2 brand new cars.Still have all the other prizes & klunks in the numbered boxes--BUT NO FUR COATS!! the fur coat days are long gone.The show should be called SUPER TREASURE HUNT!! or TREASURE HUNT DELUXE!!

      Not an NBC show--it was syndicated. To further complicate the matter, the first two seasons of the show were taped at ABC in Hollywood, and during the show's run, it aired on stations owned and operated by CBS.

    She, Rose Evans actually went Jamaican on Geoff Edwards, rest his soul. She and family extremely strong. You didn't want to get them upset. BTW, Geoff Edwards actually subbed for Monty Hall on at least one episode of LMAD. Great host, lucky with 1 of 3 ladies to help the contestant choosing a box.

    I just thought of this!!--what would have made THE NEW TREASURE HUNT much better!!--for each time the $25,000 check wasn,t picked should've been put into a TREASURE HUNT JACKPOT & let it accumilate until it was finally won.IF THAT WERE TO HAPPEN THEY WOULD NOT ONLY WIN THE BIG JACKPOT AS WELL AS THE $25,000 CHECK THEY PICKED BUT ALSO EVERYTHING ON THE STAGE!!--ALL THE PRIZES & ALL OTHER CASH BONUSES FOR A TOTAL OF OVER $200,000 PLUS THE JACKPOT.😮WOW!! THAT WOULD HAVE MADE TV GAME SHOW HISTORY!!

    i swear it was this show, but i remember a game show at this time that was ACTUALLY a treasure hunt. they had a big pond with fake piled up sand islands on it and the contestants had to earn their way onto an island and actually dig up a treasure. i thought it was this one, and that they had changed it due to the cost or something. if i made it up, it would make a good game show, i think....this isn't quite as exciting.....
