- Here's an episode from relatively late in the weekly syndicated run (there'd be a daily season in 1981-82 without Barris). Lots of entertaining skits to be had in this one. But will all that mean for the contestants?

Yes. Geoff in an interview on a podcast said that DOND was one of his favorite game shows.

Deal or No Deal was basically Treasure Hunt without the laughs!
I'd like to think of it more as a successor to Let's Make A Deal.
Gussie is so hilarious, she passed up a pool table and game room, however, she got $1,500 in cash and Renee did much better, she won a brand new station wagon, awesome Treasure Hunt episode!

I grew up with them. Wonderful people. Yes Karen dying at 32 in 1983 was a shock to many. Anorexia is a sad disease.

Speaking of "Let's Get Physical" TV special, the special aired on 14 June 1982. A rebroadcast of the February ABC special and starred the late Olivia Newton-John.
So this was actually late in the syndicated run then.
Time for a reboot!
It's a different world now. Women want to be equal to men; and there were no male contestants on that show because producers were afraid one of them would beat the crap out of Geoff Edwards if they ended up with a klunk. Plus, (younger) women are a lot more sensitive and get their feelings hurt easier. If they ended up with a klunk, they'll need at least 6 months of therapy. Also, this is a Participation Trophy World. If one person wins a cash prize, everyone else has to win a cash prize.
I love how he just drops two $500 bills into Gussie's hand, like it's just standard currency! Even then I think they were worth more than just $500...bringing the total payout to probably around $2,500 - in 70's cash value! Nowadays, probably would be closer to at least ten or twelve grand!! :-O
This is actually from the 1981-'82 daily syndicated version (there was an ad in here for Olivia Newton-John's "Let's Get Physical" at a time when "Physical," which was the #1 song of the 1980's was either late in or just ended its run at #1.
No, this episode first aired in 1976. This home recording is a syndicated rerun. The 1981-2 first run syndicated version had 66 boxes.
They should've had Emile play one of these costumed characters.

Once TNTH ceased production, they all went wild and crazy on The Price Is Right.
Surprised that TNTH was in reruns on a non station. I know CBN aired it around the same time of this recording.
That is kind of weird because usually once a cable station (in this case, CBN) picks up a certain program, all other network stations stop airing it. Why a local station would continue to air a game show already available on cable like The New Treasure Hunt which was already 8-11 years old then is made unclear. For sitcoms like Green Acres may seem normal, but very rare for a game show.

@@WaltGekko If it was, it would be titled as Treasure Hunt with 66 surprise packages. This is The New Treasure Hunt with 30. Both versions aired on CBN, but not the entire 205 episode existence for unknown reasons.
I'm thinking this would have been from the 1975-76 season, which was the third of 4 in weekly syndication. By that time, didn't production of "The New Treasure Hunt" move from ABC-Prospect Studios to the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank (then known as The Burbank Studios when it was jointly owned with Columbia Pictures)?
Yes. Coincidentally or not, the move to Burbank came shortly after ABC cancelled the original run of "The Newlywed Game," also a Chuck Barris show. I think this program is from the fourth and final season, for which Barris himself served as executive producer. Mike Metzger was EP for '75-'76. Barris and Walt Case were the EPs the first two years. And a sad note: According to a comment her daughter posted on another NTH program on YT, Naomi De Vargas, the brunette model, died in 1985.

According to the track listing of an album of music from his programs that Chuck Barris released in 1973, it's the "Cop Out" theme (although it really wasn't). It's available on YT. This and the closing TH theme are the nicest tracks on the album. Barris wrote most of the music for his shows, beginning with "The Dating Game."

Neither did she IMHO. Thats the downside of winning on these prize shows: if you didnt win cash or a car, the prizes whether you like them or not, that you won still count as taxable income and selling these prizes to pay said taxes can be a headache, even in the age of ebay.
@@thewipsportstalkfan3160 I heard that if you won prizes and sold them, that you could NOT mention the name of the show on which you won the gifts.
I would have preferred the money, even as small as $1500, over some game room from a bowling alley.
Was this game show popular? Because its really really bad. So stupid. It’s not even a game. It’s just a copy cat type Lets Make a Deal type show. SOOOO BAD
It ran for four years in this first run. You're right, it basically is a game of chance because it isn't easy to find the right box.
The New Treasure Hunt was like Let's Make A Deal but with bigger prizes, more ladies on deck, fairy tale like skits and , of course, surprises galore. They were on around the same time Let's Make A Deal was. Host Monty Hall commented that the show was very contemporary and in his honor, invited Geoff to substitute for him on Let's Make A Deal when needed, Both Hall and Edwards remained friends to this day.
