Thank you for posting these episodes. Wonderful to see my mother in all these videos, Naomi DeVargas. She passed in 1985, so it’s great to watch her model all the gifts. 😊
Very cool to know your mom was on the show. I was not born when these shows aired. I just love old game shows. Did she ever talk about behind-the-scenes stuff?
This aired when I was 8 years old.I always thought Geoff Edward's would be on the truck delivering everything. Waving while they pulled up to the house...Ahh youth.
This was first shown on WCBS-TV (channel 2) in 1973 and then later revived in 1981 on WOR-TV (channel 9) and then later picked up by CBN (now Freeform) in the 1980’s.
I used to watch this show namely that they had some pretty cool cars on the show, those 2 Porsches were a real surprise, considering $12k was a bargain compared to the prices today
Actually, these “Porches” were made with VW (they made punch-buggies) and looked down by The Porche community. Only in the last 5 years have they started to be appreciatived by collectors. I’ve always love them!
There is _no way in hell_ that a show like this could be aired, let alone pitched, today. It would be deemed too mean for a modern audience. The whole premise of the show was based upon toying with a woman's emotions. They never had any males as contestants on this show, and for good reason. Had they tried this show with a guy as a contestant, they'd have had lawsuits to deal with and the guy might have tried to put someone associated with the show in the hospital. One episode had planned to have a particularly mean sketch, which _(almost)_ resulted in host Geoff Edwards quitting the show out of protest. The woman would have been led to believe that she had just won a new car, but the reveal would have shown that she had only won _THE WINDSHIELD._ _Horrible, horrible_ sketch idea, but fortunately, this one never made it to air.
I recognize the lead model, Jane Nelson, as she did a number of game shows in the 70s and 80s, and very sorry to hear of Naomi DeVargas' passing. Out of curiosity, does anyone know the names of the other models and what they're doing today, including Jane? Thanks bunches!
Sivi Aberg (blonde) was a staple of Chuck Barris Productions. She was a contestant on "The Dating Game" in 1967; she served as a hostess on "Operation: Entertainment," a USO-type variety show on ABC in 1968; and she assisted Barris and often introduced him on "The Gong Show."
My friend Jeremy Fast is looking for the episode of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" with Regis Philbin and it's from May 17th, 2000. Do you think anyone could find it?
Two very brave and courageous ladies who won great prizes, Sharon won a living room bonanza worth $5,715.80 and Janice won $7,019.98 in cash and prizes, what a great game show gem!
I could see NBC or ABC doing a reboot of The New Treasure Hunt. the grand prize can be $100,000 cash or even $1,000,000 cash. Cars: Economy, Compacts, Midsize, SUV's, Luxury cars. Lots of trips. Lots of cash from stating at $500
How did they get the figure of $19.98 for the shopping cart? Was that actually the price of a shopping cart? Could you even buy shopping carts back then?!
Well, who else could come up with a show with such a flimsy premise but Chuck Barris? Somewhere in his diary, it must say, "Spent three minutes and thirty-seven seconds developing a new show today." I remember the original Treasure Hunt with Jan Murray, which, despite his being a comedian, was much more serious (and boring) than this 30-minute commercial for dozens of products. On the other hand, Geoff Edwards was brilliant as the host here. Monty Hall was the fast talking trader, somewhat detached from the contestants. You always got the feeling he was doing business, and he had to get a lot of business done in 23 minutes, five or six games before the final deal. Edwards knew this whole show was a silly put-on and was intentionally and em-barris-ingly over the top, as was every detail of this show, from models parading to march music, down to pricing all those unrelated items in a showcase down to the penny for no particular reason. I wouldn't binge watch this version of Treasure Hunt but appreciate the chance to have fun with it again in small doses. Thank you. PS $7,000 then is the equivalent of about $50,000 today. Not a bad haul, for not having to know or do anything. And since it was in cash, she had the money to pay the tax on her winnings.
Good guess. But this was a remake of a late-1950's TV show called "Treasure Hunt", originally on ABC (primetime), then NBC (daytime), created and hosted by comedian Jan Murray. So "Treasure Hunt" beat "LMaD" to air by just a few years.
@Brandon Taylor That second reason sounds understandable. But I think the first reason sounds like an overreaction. After all I've never seen men attack Monty Hall or Wayne Brady whenever they got zonked on Let's Make A Deal.
Geoff Edwards was the host of "Treasure Hunt"; Chuck Barris produced the program. Barris later produced and emceed "The Gong Show," and he and Edwards did look alike, especially when they wore tuxedos.

So sad to hear!!! She must have been very young. She did a great job!!
Too cool!!
Very cool to know your mom was on the show. I was not born when these shows aired. I just love old game shows. Did she ever talk about behind-the-scenes stuff?
Sad to hear about the death, but nice to hear from the offspring of those who worked on the show
❤️🙏
I remember this from childhood now I’m in my fifty’s those were the days 😄
I watched this as a kid in the 70s and loved it!!!😊😊😊😊😊
Broyhill Industries Lenoir NC... I get misty eyed hearing that. Love the old school Treasure Hunts!
God I used to love this show when I was growing up.. Thank you so much for posting these episodes of "Treasure Hunt."
I never forgot about this show. The host's showmanship made it unforgettable.
This was my favorite game show at 8 yrs old. Thought host was a 💓
Thanks for these Treasure Hunt episodes!!! Love to see more, especially the 70s
Especially the early episodes.
Yes.
I remember watching this show in 1973(I was 10)! Geoff was great Rest in peace, Geoff!❤️🙏
New Treasure Hunt: What you get when Deal or No Deal doesn’t take itself seriously.
LOVE this show. It's always been a favorite. I even managed to work a reference to Emile Auturi into one of my novels.🥰 Thank you for sharing.
His was just a single neuron of a memory that I recalled last night. Thank you for posting this show.
Thx for posting, vivid recall this show.
I love it when the clunk prizes lead to an even bigger prize!
This aired when I was 8 years old.I always thought Geoff Edward's would be on the truck delivering everything. Waving while they pulled up to the house...Ahh youth.
This is awesome! Thanks sharing 😊
In the '70s, when I could convince my mom that I was sick and couldn't go to school, I watched this. (Rarely was I sick!)
It was a weekly show that generally aired before prime time...
This was first shown on WCBS-TV (channel 2) in 1973 and then later revived in 1981 on WOR-TV (channel 9) and then later picked up by CBN (now Freeform) in the 1980’s.
I haven't seen this since I was a Lil girl!! It used to come on late afternoons in the early 80's. 🤩🤩
15:06 NOOOOO!!!!!!!
15:31 YESSSSSS!!!!!!!
I used to watch this show namely that they had some pretty cool cars on the show, those 2 Porsches were a real surprise, considering $12k was a bargain compared to the prices today
I remembered watching this show back in the days with my parents & to think two porsches for just under 13 grand what a deal back then..
Actually, these “Porches” were made with VW (they made punch-buggies) and looked down by The Porche community. Only in the last 5 years have they started to be appreciatived by collectors. I’ve always love them!
Taped at NBC studios in Burbank! Geoff Edwards was an NBC employee.
Actually, the show was taped at ABC and, later, The Burbank Studios, which was owned by Warner Brothers. The program aired in syndication.
@@kevinfitzmaurice4072 Thanks for the info.I know that Chuck Barris was working with ABC and NBC in the 1970’s-1980’s.
@@kevinfitzmaurice4072 Also NBC had a lease agreement with Warner Bros in the 1970’a-1980’s for their studios.
1973: Treasure Hunt.
10 Years Later: Plays arcade games.
The ending theme was awesome
I was so excited about this show
N miss. It
I KNEW that I saw an episode with nothing in the box, although in a later episode, he told a contestant that never happens.
Love seeing my mom in the mink! ❤
"Every woman can use some pots"! Nice...
1973 was a different era. A joke like that would get a show canceled today. That’s why Deal or No Deal simply opened the case, with no frills or fun.
Mansplaining 😆
I;II TAKE This over Deal Or No Deal
ill take this over Deal or no Deal any day Thnk You at The New Treasure Hunt
had pretty models Biing me more episodes
That's thank you.
18:37 I would’ve expected something like this from Let’s Make a Deal 😆
A Chuck Barris Production 😊
Always enjoyed this show . Geoff Edwards was a great host. However, this show lacked what made Lets Make a Deal so good: Carol Merrill.
Obviously, this was replayed somewhere around 1980 as Amy Grant was only about 10 or 12 years old in 1973.
Here's a show that could use a reboot. A $2,000,000 reboot!

@@drewzuhosky6826That's not fair, they should've had guys on Treasure Hunt as well, both editions, Original and the New versions.
Like how he paid prize money in real cash during those days...

Sivi Aberg, Nomi DeVargas, Jane Nelson, Pamela Hensley, and Tanya _____?
My friend Jeremy Fast is looking for the episode of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" with Regis Philbin and it's from May 17th, 2000. Do you think anyone could find it?
Zonk or Clonk which came first everything I ever believed in was a lie 😂😂😂😂
Here's an episode of The New Treasure Hunt in 1973.
Nice.
U get a grammie birthday cheque!!
Two very brave and courageous ladies who won great prizes, Sharon won a living room bonanza worth $5,715.80 and Janice won $7,019.98 in cash and prizes, what a great game show gem!

4:24 That music is the theme song to The Newlywed Game, also produced by Chuck Barris.
Actually it was used for The Parent Game (1972).
Not "The Newlywed Game" theme, but it sounds similar.
Why didn't Alex trebek ever have a harum?
I don't like it that Geoff didn't ask their names until they went on the Treasure Hunts.
@11:33 Listen to this and tell me this does NOT sound like Cyndi Lauper's song "She Bop"
Emile's beard looks funny.
$7G was a lot back then.😊
Do you have the episode where one of the sketches is a county fair with a pie-baking contest?
Wait that's CJ from Matt Houston
The predecessor of NBC's "Deal or No Deal"
Oh wow, to think that if they ever did a revival of this show, Howie Mandell would be terrific as the host for it.
# Empty Box 📦 😑 😕 😢 😪 😐.
Predecessor, only if DoND didn’t take itself so seriously.
Ridiculous set-up. The box was EMPTY
18:34 KLUNK!
I’ve been on a game show kick for the last few months, but this one… where’s the strategy.. Eh just not for me this one
14:56 -- What not to do
He said every woman can use some pots.
Did she just get the $7000 or did she get the klunk prizes?

MOST RIDICULOUS AND SILLY AND TIME WASTING GAME SHOW EVER!!!!
I’ve noticed this show is quite similar to Let’s make a deal.

Deal or no deal or this show which came first 😂 one ripped off the other
Treasure Hunt first aired in 1956, long before Deal or No Deal
I never understood why they had only women play the game. What was the reason for that?
Assuming this was aired during the day, mainly women and children are at home during the day in the 70’s.
@Brandon Taylor That second reason sounds understandable. But I think the first reason sounds like an overreaction. After all I've never seen men attack Monty Hall or Wayne Brady whenever they got zonked on Let's Make A Deal.
Geoff Edwards had to memorize 30 different cash or box scenarios...adding male/female would have made it more difficult
$14,000 in 1973
$100,000 in 2024
That’s inflation for you.
Jeff Edwards ?
Geoff Edwards was the host of "Treasure Hunt"; Chuck Barris produced the program. Barris later produced and emceed "The Gong Show," and he and Edwards did look alike, especially when they wore tuxedos.
Deal...or no deal ancestor.
Chuck Barris was the host?
no, Chuck Barris was the producer; Geoff Edwards was the host
