I can relate, I bought “one of the simplest” interfaces and I had to spend next 4-5 days learning and researching what the problem was to then find out how to fix it…. And then start buying stuff that wouldn’t fix it!!!!
I just order them prior seeing this video hoping would solve the problem, put me in service…
    And forget the “mistake”.

Those are dual combo XLR, 1/4’ jacks. You should’ve used dual RCA stereo cable, to dual 1/4’ stereo cable.

      Was my first thought.

Yeah that was pretty cringe. The way he has it is taking unbalanced stereo, converting it to mono and running it through a balanced input. Im also sure that XLR jack is setup for Mic Level. So it will be mono and very likely distorted or noisier than it would need to be. Dual RCA to 1/4" cables would be worlds better.

You do have a major problem with your connection from the mixer to the proDuo. I am assuming that the mini jack is stereo (TRS) because on the other end you have these two RCAs (red and white). These are cables that are usually used the other way round - a stereo headphone-jack output (e.g. of an MP3 player or iPhone) connected to a stereo RCA input of a mixer or sound system. Both sides are unbalanced signals at home recording (consumer) level of -10dB. That works perfectly fine.
However, the XLR input of the iRig is a balanced MONO mic input at +4dB. When you adapt the mini jack (stereo) to XLR (mono) you are loosing one side of your stereo signal.
That is because your TRS jack-to-XLR adapter is connecting the T(ip) of the jack to pin3, the S(leeve) to pin1 (ground) and then either bridging the R(ing) also to pin1 (ground) or even more likely leaving it open (unconnected). XLR is ‚NEVER‘ stereo... - these adapters do never assume that a jack is a stereo signal (or a balanced mono signal), hence they ignore pin2.
So either way you are loosing one channel. I you really wanna go ‚mono‘ for some reason you have to feed both channels into the iRig and let some mixer software make a final mono master track from your stereo source. Both sides are getting mixed down to one channel, nothing gets lost.
And to avoid this unnecessary conversion between -10db and +4dB just use a stereo RCA cable (red/white to red/white) and put an RCA-to-monoJack adapter on both plugs of one side and connect this pair to the two Jack inputs of your iRig. They are used as Instrument inputs, which means they are definitely not balanced and definitely MONO.
This way you get the best signal possible ;-)

Hello, I just ordered this irig. Are you saying use RCA(Red/White) to RCA(Red/White) cord from the main of mixer to (2) RCA-to-Mono jack adapters and then plug into the left & right of the device? Thanks

    • @mramosch
      @mramosch 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Derrick s - If your mixer has
      • Balanced Jack Outputs: Use 2 balanced TRS (TipRingSleeve) jack-to-jack cables (hot-cold-ground)
      • Balanced XLR Outputs: Use 2 balanced Microphone XLR-to-XLR cables (hot-cold-ground)
      • Unbalanced Jack Outputs: Use 2 unbalanced Instrument TS jack-to-jack cables (hot-ground)
      • Unbalanced RCA Outputs: Use a stereo RCA cable with 2 RCA-to-monoJack adapters for the iRig input
For the first two (balanced) options you can also use
      • 2 balanced TRS (TipRingSleeve) jack-to-XLR cables (hot-cold-ground)
Just make sure that the tip of the Jack (hot) goes to the right pin of the XLR connector.
XLR pin 1 is always ground, usually pin 3 is the hot pin and pin 2 the cold. But there are
devices that use pin 2 as the hot pin and pin 3 as the cold pin.
So check the XLR output of your Mixer and the XLR input of your iRig for their connector schematics!
Never go Unbalanced (jack or RCA) to XLR...

Great and informative video, I have the iRig Pro Duo Studio Suite and a 2 part-question .. did you find a compatible power supply for the iRig Pro device and did you manage to get good quality audio out from from your mixer into your iMac and then out to a livestream? (which is what i would like to do) - thx!

Mr G most power supplies with the right plug work and I found a basic one at my electronic store that did the trick in the end.
As for this setup, it gives a good audio output through to your phone for livestreaming. If you were live streaming from your computer then you probably only need to have the input audio for the live stream set to your mixer.

colin tolley to be completely honest with you, I was so excited that I got it working I got my audio inputs wrong. I filmed me making the correction but in my worry (18 months ago) I decided to leave it out thinking it would look dumb. This video was only on about 500-600 views before Covid19 started and I had chalked it up to being an experiment in doing this style of video. Now lots of people around the world have been watching and this has been picked up once or twice and I do this 🤦🏽‍♂️ to my former self’s decision.
You’re right that it takes over the audio and the only way I would be able to still be heard is by having a mic input through the mixer. XLR input on the back for channel 3 works a treat!
Hope this answers your question and you can have a lol at my former self too. 🤙🏽

It's Not About You Productions I would like to live stream to FB and upload videos that have been edited. I would be recording my music pieces and overlay them very basic effects nothing fancy. My mixer is a Presonus Studiolive 32 mk3. So I’ll take stereo feed from that into the iRig and record it Into my iphone, mac to make future edits. This way the audio and video is synced.

    • @itsnotaboutyouproductions3195
      @itsnotaboutyouproductions3195  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

VinceVega303 it might be because it’s late here and my brain isn’t working at full functionality but it sounds like you want to do two different things at the same time while using the same device?
Yes this setup would be able to take a mixed output and feed it into the iRig to then connect to your phone for a live stream and yes you could also double your phone as a recording device, am unsure on any audio quality loss. I don’t think you can do both simultaneously though without quality loss somewhere along the line. I would keep the phone for video and live stream, then record audio separately if you’re to then sync and add effects to it.
      Does that make sense?

A simple clap at the start of each take does the trick and once you’ve matched the first files up, the rest would follow suit. I really want to record video and audio using my Android phone, so I can upload to TH-cam etc. Would this set up work for me?

According to their website the Pro Duo is Android compatible but the Powerbridge is apple only.

Does the irig Pro duo charge the phone when powered up?

    Hi!
*Great video btw* ! Ok so...I just bought the iRig Pro Duo but I am not getting the high quality sound....I'm listenin' to James Hypes LIVES on Facebook compared to mine and theres a big difference. I don't know, it seems like i'm not getting high volume and the music feels less ''PRESENT'' if you know what i'm saying. I wonder if he's using a few 200$ cables to get that sound lol!
I have (2) TRS Balanced cables to XLR-M coming from my booth output of my mixer (DDJ-RX) directly in the interface's (IRig) channels. I would like to mention that the iRig is powered by DC.Could this be because my speakers (that I use for monitoring my mix and to hear what i'm doing live) are in MONO? Would this affect the sound quality of the LIVE streaming?
    Waiting for your response,
    Thanks!

DJ Mademoizelle i’m running the same setup now in regards to the TRS balanced cables out of the booth and it works fine for me? I can’t attest to how it sounds when someone is listening in on the stream though.
It would be wrong of me to offer advice though on how to fix your issue because I don’t have the experience in that area. Sorry!

@@itsnotaboutyouproductions3195 Ok thanks! It seems fine when I record but when I listen back to my LIVE idk....it feels like a lack of quality maybe it's just me that want STUDIO QUALITY... maybe I would have to pay more to get better cables?!...🎧🎶

DJ Mademoizelle cables or potentially look at what your upload audio quality level is. There might be a drop there somewhere.

@@itsnotaboutyouproductions3195 Hi, I have another question : How am I suppose to charge my cellphone at the same time (I have a Huawei P20 Lite). They told me that the 3rd party adapters could possibly not work and is not recommended. I wanted to get a splitter (USB-C to USB-C Lightning/Charging ports x2). I asked for other options and they said that the 9V DC cable plus the USB-C to Mini DIN cable (that I am still waiting for in the mail) would work for charging the device at the same time but I don't think so...It says clearly in the manual ''IMPORTANT : The external power supply will NOT charge the device's battery''....I am left with concerns here, maybe you could help? Thanks!

DJ Mademoizelle you’re running into exactly the problem I had here and the reason I bought both products.
Do IRig not have an adapter for Huawei phones? 3rd party pieces may work but as you said they don’t recommend it.
Someone in one of the other comments said that I could have just got a lightning adapter that allowed me to plug in to power and headphones at the same time, which might be right, but that’s iphone. Huawei might offer a similar accessory?

NOW.....YOU NEED A TOGUEL (I THINK THAT'S HOW YOU WRITED) GOING INTO YOUR PHONE SO YOUR PHONE CAN ALWAYS BE IN CHARGED MODE. THAT WILL COMPLETE YOUR SET UP. OH NO!!! there is more...YOU NEED TO BUY THAT an AC CORD TO KEEP YOUR DUO FROM USING BATTERIES. OK, ok, ok, NOW YOU SHOULD BE OKAY. I THINK Mmmmm....
