"But even after admitting this, there is no catharsis; my punishment continues to elude me, and I gain no deeper knowledge of myself. No new knowledge can be extracted from my telling. This confession has meant nothing." Fun Fact: During production, Christian Bale followed the morning routine that his character Patrick Bateman describes toward the beginning of the film. Location Location Fact: The scene in which Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) yells at the Asian woman at the laundromat was filmed at a small cleaners on Jarvis street in Toronto, Ontario. Much of the building scenes (his escape near the finale for example) were filmed in the financial district downtown. Distinguish Competition Fact: This film stars both Christian Bale and Jared Leto who each end up portraying DC characters. Bale would later go on to star as Bruce Wayne/Batman in The Dark Knight Trilogy and Leto would later appear as The Joker in Suicide Squad (2016). Interestingly, Batman has a no killing policy while the Joker kills with no remorse, yet fans humorously point out how in this film, Batman kills the Joker. Music Enthusiast Fact: In 2013, Funny Or Die recreated the Hip To Be Square (1986) scene with Huey Lewis and 'Weird Al' Yankovic. Huey Lewis himself played the Patrick Bateman role and 'Weird Al' Yankovic was the Paul Allen role. In the scene, Lewis discusses the film, its controversial reception, Christian Bale's acting, and its effect on Bale's performance as Batman. Rather than listening to a song, Lewis pops in the American Psycho (2000) DVD, and at one point he points to the television while discussing Bale as Bale is shown pointing at the stereo discussing Lewis. It ends with Lewis killing Yankovic while the song I Want A New Duck (1985), a parody of the Huey Lewis And The News song I Want A New Drug (1984), plays.
The key to understanding the ending is Patrick's final thought, 'This confession has meant nothing.' There's no point in his confessing if everyone is guilty, if everyone is as psychotic as him. Throughout the movie, we see people cover him for no other reason than it benefits them. He left a bloody trail in his apartment's lobby to be cleaned up by the staff. His friends say he was having dinner with when Paul disappeared, likely too superficial to have remembered. The woman showing Paul's apartment knows Patrick isn't there to view the apartment. She knows what he did there because she cleaned it up, as you can't sell an apartment for full price when dozens of murders took place there. His lawyer is lying about having dinner with Paul in London because it makes him look important. Even as he realizes Patrick is insane, he continues to keep the lie up for the sake of his image. And that's when Patrick realizes his confession means nothing. At the beginning of the film, he admits he's just a façade of a human being, that there's no real depth. By the end of the film he's realized he lives in a world surrounded by people so superficial they'll abet murder. Everyone would rather look good and profit than stop him. Everyone is a psycho, Patrick's just more honest about it.
Oh, dear.😅 What a flick. As a 53 yro American who came of age in 80's greed & golden era of slasher horror i was never interested in seeing this when it came out. Mainly due to not being a big fan of newer Horror or Christian Bale(?). Then i saw an excellent true-story crime drama called "America Hustle" starring Bale so i decided to check out more of his work & finally watch this. I still didnt think id be impressed. What can i say, im biased toward the Old School Horror?😅 But i was actually really enjoying it,...until that ending! But i think it was poor execution of the concept. Could've even just been poor editing? Gave me blu ballz😅 & ruined an otherwise wild & "original" horror for me. But not a bad flick to help get your channel going here, friend. Should pull in views. I mentioned before i was specifically searching out Jackass when found you. That "Borat" should bring in same crowd, perhaps more. But as far as top pulls if haven't seen, or if can drag in somebody to guest who hasnt, flicks like "Forrest Gump", "The Sixth Sense", & "Star Wars" franchise, of course, can pull in hundreds, if not thousands of views in a week! Just a suggestion. You do you. Reactions have been my guilty pleasure since first saw them pop about 4 years ago. Is good to react to top pulls for channel recognition/subs, but often times its the reactors who do their own thing that stand out. Like starting with Jackass! 🤗💕 Best Wishes from NashvilleTowne!🎶 See ya! ✌️🌎❤️
@randywhite3947 All I can say, friend, is 1st time I even remember hearing the name was as Batman. So, right off the bat thought just another pretty boy sellout. Then saw name again on this supposed classic & thought pretty boy just making the rounds in hopes of becoming the new "Bruce Willis", so thought was just another dime-a-dozen Hollywood actor. But then, when for whatever reason, I happened to catch "American Hustle", I thought this guy's the Real Deal!!! As good as any actor I've ever seen! He was amazing as charcter. So I am a fan of his acting chops, but Batman & this alone would've never had me say that. Unfortunately New Hollywood is so hit, but more miss for me these days I'm in no hurry to do a deep-dive so... ✌️😎
I agree, the ending can be quite divisive. Sometimes, it just comes down to personal taste and expectations. Your insights are super valuable, and I appreciate your honesty. I love the feedback and recommendations for my channel's growth. I'll definitely keep your advice in mind and try to find a balance between popular picks and unique choices, which is strategy I am doing as well hah! I did reaction video of "Forrest Gump" however, the camera did not catch my face lol I ended up not upload it. Thank you for being so supportive!
@@Meactor2333 As I mentioned friend, those top views like Forrest Gump are recyclable Reaction Gold! It doesn't matter how many people you can get to guest react-your friend, family, stranger off the street😅, people will show up! I know i would! Really just a suggestion for "rainy day" at this point on your journey, I suppose, but is what I'd do if had the patience to deal with computer world😅 since I've seen most of the top pulls. Best Wishes! 🙏❤️

Appreciate your insights! So it is like Patrick's version of "Trueman show" huh
Good reaction 😊
