Normally the dock level is maintained at the height of a big spring tide. On a very high tide the river level rises to the same height as the dock level when it is possible to pass through the lock without stopping

@@timnutta when these bulk carriers bring their cargo to liverpool, do they leave empty or is there something they load out of liverpool ?
