it has always been my dream to shoot in the redwoods. great video. 2 questions.. 1) how do you like the 18-35? i have a rokinon 35mm that I'm thinking about selling for the 18-35. 2) what song it this? its amazing and id love to find it for some wedding films I'm working on thanks!
Hi, Daniel! Great footage! Can you help me? If i bought this sigma lens, can i filming weddings or smth with this one lens? Or i have to bought some other lenses for better concentrating on different scenes? Thanks! P.S. It means i allready have all the stuff: gh4, glidecam, metabones speed booster etc.
Thanks for the comment! Yes I just filmed a wedding with this exact setup and it went great..however I will say I had to get pretty creative to cover the ceremony..it would be good to have another camera with a longer lens like a 70-200mm to get close ups of the ceremony..not a must..but it would help a ton! Hope that helps! This sigma lens is just fantastic!
So when you use this lens (Canon glass), the camera menu is set to "no lens"? Also with the aperture at 1.8, the camera shutter speed is like 2500 in daylight? Of course using all those settings in Manual mode right?
I'm getting a Flycam 3000 HD and another day will get a new lens for my canon 600D to shoot music videos like these. I'm thinking about that lens. The fact it doesn't have IS built in, using glidcam/tripod fix it? I'm really worried about it.
+Cláudio M Rodrigues yes, tripod and glidecam will fix the the fact that the lens does not have image stabilization. Glidecam takes some practice, but will make your footage much more smooth.
Great shots! How did you obtain those high angle shots at the beginning of the film? Did you handheld the glidecam high above your head sort...I like the slow motion...cool
The glidecam helps a ton. If you watch the video "little things" on my channel. I shot it handheld, so you can see what it looks like with no stabilization
Did you use the Metabones Speedbooster (Non-S Version)? I really want to get the 18-35mm but it's an APS-C Lens, and I have the S-Version of the Metabones Speedbooster. If you didn't use the Non-S version, what adapter did you have in this video?
The speedbooster was a gamechanger for me. I rarely control lighting conditions, and that extra stop of light, and wider field of view came in clutch many times. I highly recommend it :)
Thank you! Zero drop time is a way of balancing the glidecam...when trying to balance, usually people hold the glidecam sideways and then drop it...the manual says to try and make it take 2-3 seconds for the camera to fall back to center..but when I balance, I set it up so that when I hold the rig sideways, it stays horizontal. Does that make sense? If not, just google "zero drop time glidecam" and there are some tutorials on this method :)
Did the autofocus work for you? Which speedbooster (what size)? Was it the metabones adaptor or the .71 or .64? I tried this exact combo camera/lens with the .71 speedbooster and the camera struggled to focus - clunky, confused, loud, the camera ended up crashing. What do you think when wrong for me?
+KB KB I never use the autofocus function with the speedbooster. I had the .71, but I manually focus everything. I did find the autofocus to be slow, inaccurate, and loud. I don't think anything went wrong for you...just the way that product behaves I suppose. When I'm flying glidecam, I typically use f8.0 and go to infinity focus to get everything in focus. I hope this helps
I was hesitant to get a steadicam/glidecam because of the combined weight of the camera and heavy Sigma 18-35. How was the weight distribution for you? I know if you conform 60fps you can get a smoother image, but if you are shooting in 24fps is the image stabilized enough since this is a zoom lens (I imagine you shot at 18mm).
+Sean Puno I'm going to be honest. I have this exact same setup. The Gh4 + speedbooster + sigma 18-35 and I will say this that this thing is heavy. I only added 1 weight on each side of the HD2000 and yet its still heavy. I shoot music videos for a living and will admit my arm is exhausted after holding for just a minute straight. I will even go to say that it messes up some shots because I have to switch arms it hurts so much. I'm not a baby lol. Its just like holding a 5lb weight in front of your face. Its not heavy. But, after awhile your arm gets tired. Is it worth it? Hell yes the HD2000 alone completely upgraded my quality. If you don't have to shoot for continuous lengths like I do then you will be in luck.
I noticed that when I'm in video with autofocus on, i can hear the motor from the sigma. Is that normal? i know it's trying to focus on the changing environment but i didn't think it would make any noise
Yeah the gh4 is so light, that I actually add 2 weights under the camera to make it even heavier..when the rig is heavier it makes working with the glidecam a lot easier.
hey man, im wanting to purchase a GH4 primarily to have the sigma 18-35mm 1.8 lens, but i don't know what metabones speed booster to get? i could really do with some help!
There a few options...I have the sigma 18-35mm ef canon mount lens, so I got the ef to m4/3 speedbooster. I like that one the best because you also get aperture control on the camera!
very well done, two thumbs up! Great camera work with the glidecam hd2000
really captured the beauty of the redwoods, great share!
Thank you!
You articulate well with the camera movement and composition. Beautiful footage.
Thank you!
very much enjoyed this. beautifully shot.
Thank you :)
Really beautiful work Daniel! Excellent use of motion! :O)
absolutely fantastic shots! makes me really want to get a glidecam/flycam and a GH4!
Lovely earthy colours.
Thank you :)
really high quality video ... I like your setup :)
great footage !witch model of speed booster you use??0,64x or 0,71x??
omg so cinematic!
Great Job! support from Switzerland
Thank you :) I appreciate the support!

Awesome! It is a lot like devinsupertramp style. BTW, what is the music used in here?
Very beautiful!
Great video.. super inspirational.. Just curious.. what song is this? I love instrumental music and would love to check out more of this artist.

Wow amazing footage! I really enjoyed watching this :) Do you think it's possible to get nice smooth shots with the Glidecam HD 2000 and a 35mm lense?
Thank you :) Yeah definitely. The wider the lens the better, but I've used it at 35mm a lot and had good results!
The compression looks horrible.
The glidecam shots are smooth af, any stabilization in post?
So when you use this lens (Canon glass), the camera menu is set to "no lens"? Also with the aperture at 1.8, the camera shutter speed is like 2500 in daylight? Of course using all those settings in Manual mode right?
isn't that too heavy for using it on a glidecam ? it doesn't seem to be, regarding to your amazing footages

Thank you! Yes I held it over my head and walked as carefully as I could lol!
beautiful !
Thank you :)
Really nice video ! Which format video did you use ? 24f/s 200 Mbps intra? With a Cinelike D profile ?
Thank you! I shot this at 60fps/100mbps/using the natural profile with everything set to 0. Hope this helps
Yes thank you!
Actually, I used the standard profile. I now use the natural profile for everything I shoot though
Very nice video ! I have just one question : is it possible to use this lens on a gh4 using only a simple adapter, and not an expensive speedbooster ?
Yes
+Joel Davis Photo Thanks !
Amazing work man, what setting are you using for your GH4?
Do you mean which picture style? I'm using natural with sharpness and noise reduction turned all the way down and everything else is left as is
Alright thanks man, good to know.
Excellent video! Whats the song choice?
How many weights did u add to the base of the glidecam on each side. I'm really struggling to balance my gh4 with speedbooster and sigma 18-35.
Wonderful Video. I am Happy. But i missing 4k
I plan on purchasing the sigma 18-35. How did you find the footage played back at normal speed since the lens doesn't have image stabilization .
The glidecam helps a ton. If you watch the video "little things" on my channel. I shot it handheld, so you can see what it looks like with no stabilization
+Daniel Jeremiah thanks for the immediate reply. I'll have a look

I did use the S version of the speedbooster. It works great
Do you find that the speedbooster enhances the footage THAT much? just wanted to hear if you thought it was worth the money getting one. great video!
The speedbooster was a gamechanger for me. I rarely control lighting conditions, and that extra stop of light, and wider field of view came in clutch many times. I highly recommend it :)
one of the best gh4 vids on here. whats zero drop time mean?
Thank you! Zero drop time is a way of balancing the glidecam...when trying to balance, usually people hold the glidecam sideways and then drop it...the manual says to try and make it take 2-3 seconds for the camera to fall back to center..but when I balance, I set it up so that when I hold the rig sideways, it stays horizontal. ok, less weight smoother shot. thanks man.

I found it to be fairly smooth..I do have to be careful of walking really lightly as to not see the bounce in my footsteps
well done
thanks
Sean Puno Get a rig.

+XXIVVI Thanks for the thoughrou and honest reply. That helped to make my decision on this return of investment. Time to finally buy a stabilizer.
I have a Panasonic GH4 - and which lens is compatible with speedbooster-- SIgma 1.8 Canon APS-C or SIgma 1.8 Sigma APS-C
It depends on your speedbooster. If you got a canon mount speedbooster, use the canon aps-c, if you got the sigma mount speedbooster, use the sigma
I noticed that when I'm in video with autofocus on, i can hear the motor from the sigma. Is that normal? i know it's trying to focus on the changing environment but i didn't think it would make any noise
Are you manually focusing or does it auto focus?
Does the Sigma have image stabilization?
How did you get the slow mo? It was shot at 60fps but it seems to be pretty slow like almost 96fps on vfr.. Thanks
I also moved slow as well, which helped add more of the slow motion effect!
Does the glidecam able to support the weight of this sigma lens?
Yeah the gh4 is so light, that I actually add 2 weights under the camera to make it even heavier..when the rig is heavier it makes working with the glidecam a lot easier.
amazing
hey man, im wanting to purchase a GH4 primarily to have the sigma 18-35mm 1.8 lens, but i don't know what metabones speed booster to get? i could really do with some help!
There a few options...I have the sigma 18-35mm ef canon mount lens, so I got the ef to m4/3 speedbooster. I like that one the best because you also get aperture control on the camera!
Daniel Jeremiah hey dude can i private message you because it will be easier to show you what i want to put with what?
www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1086797-REG/metabones_mb_spef_m43_bm2_canon_ef_lens_to.html that's what you want
Daniel Jeremiah is that for the lens that i linked to you?
Yep!
Nice
What picture profile did you use?
I shot this using the standard profile, and color grading in post using Adobe speedgrade! Thanks for watching!
Two question:
1) does the AF work?
2) i have read that the Speedbooster just works with 4K Video? Is this true?
1) Yes
2) Not only, will work in 1080
