Interesting. In Germany, we only have grid-powered sirens, the main difference is if they use compressed Air, an interrupted airflow or electricity (like a giant speaker). But Germany doesn't have remote areas like the US.

Yeah, a lot sirens can be ordered with that setup. They call that an "AC/DC" setup. Some systems can even be manually selected to operate from AC, DC, or AC w/ DC backup. But they are more expensive than the sirens that strictly run off battery power.

4:11 this is most likely cause by the individual speaker drivers, they probably had a blown coil / coil rub somehow causing this sound or the circuit board failing to put a even signal through the drivers.
Springfield Illinois used to have several sirens that would pick up communications between vehicles in the field and the dispatcher, some with very colorful language 🤣🤣😵😨😱❗
