    At 6:00 that clicking isn't the centrifugal switch. The switch will only disconnect the windings when the motor reaches a certain RPM and reconnect during wind-down. I don"t know what that sound is but its not the centrifugal switch. So it should only be heard once during wind up and once during wind down.

    There was one of these type sirens up on top of a pole close to the house I lived in as a child in Philadelphia, PA. It would go off at noon and would scare the pants off me when I was close by. All of these were eventually disabled. I addition to the air raid siren at noon, there was a huge growling steam whistle that blew at the beginning and end of each shift at the shipyard near my home.

    With a motor that big, you can build a much bigger bigger chopper and rotor. You could tell you can build it much bigger because the time it took for the rotor to spin up was quite short.

      if you are wondering how he gets the sound of 3000rpm with a 2850rpm motor, rotor weight normally slows down the motor a lot, but since his motor is so powerful, it cant slow down the motor.

    If you're a thoughtful (studying) engineer (like me), you could get away with a less powerful motor and use a 2:1 gear ratio to drive the rotor. However, it may take a little longer for the rotor to reach full speed. Furthermore, you could use a 3 phase motor to reach that speed much faster than using a single phase motor. The other gear would also have to be mounted next to the motor at a precise location to help with the gears meshing. I'm not sure if using different types of gears may help mesh better though. Btw, I'm studying to be an electrical engineer although mechanical engineering also fascinates me.

    It doesn’t “Push out” 1.1 kW, it draws 1.1 kW under a heavy load.

    • @richardwitt6243
      @richardwitt6243 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      On the motor plate normaly it is only written the power its giving away at the shaft. So the motor is translating 1.1kW to the shaft on max load. If you want to know how much power it draws you need to divide 1.1kW by the efficiency factor. Under full load the motor would probably draw around 1.2kW, depending on how good the efficiency factor is.

    • @NicolasSalencPBP
      @NicolasSalencPBP  4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @CatLady That is incorrect.
      1.1kw is the mechanical power the motor is able to output under full load.
      Mechanical power(W) = torque(N.m) x rotation speed(rad/s).
      To calculate electrical power consumption, you need to refer to the label. (you can pause the video at 0:53)
      Under full load, this motor pulls 6.08A on 230v. The power factor (cosφ) is 0.99.
      Input power(W) = Current(A) x Voltage(V) x cos(φ) = 6.08 x 230 x 0.99 = 1385 W
      So because of energy losses due to the efficiency factor, under full load the motor pulls around 1385 W and pushes out around 1.1kW
      285W are mainly converted into heat which need to be dissipated by the motors fan and fins.
