Chris, your enthusiasm about Jimmy's voice does him justice. I've never had many friends that listen to Jimmy like you did in this video. Thank you for that. It's like listening to this song for the first time again. (almost 15 years later.. )
I love the songs where Jimmy screams or sings in. Also love “Save Me” which was like the last song he wrote. Apparently called it his masterpiece, 11 mins and not a single second of that song is bad. Amazing musician he was.
The Rev’s vocals on this album are legendary. So cool to hear that pitch scream at the end of that line. I’d never noticed it before seeing this video! M Shadows brought the heat as always. Thanks for making all these awesome breakdowns!
Ya they just ended up going into booth and fucking making crazy noises and screaming and laughing. The video where they breakdown each song on the white album is a must if you’re an Avenged fan.
The Rev's parts in Critical Acclaim were the first lines I managed to kinda successfully scream, so it was really nice to see your analysis of his vocals!
The man literally made a whole-ass song in one night while absolutely fuckin *smashed* and probably didn't even remember it the next morning (A Little Piece of Heaven).
That would be SOOO COOOOOL!!!! There's somebody on youtube that did some GREAT instrumentals... His name is Alex Fry... He did a GREAT re-creation of all the songs!!!
12:52 hearing The Rev's isolated vocals from Afterlife...just hits me in the feels 😭 RIP REV and thank you Chris for helping me FINALLY nail this part! 👏
The thing with most "vocal coach reaction" videos is that not only do they often carry no special insight, but by virtue of carrying no insight they kind of betray the fact that the coach doesn't really care about the music being discussed. You thoroughly prove the opposite for yourself, by remaining informative in your breakdown while clearly enjoying all the music you go through. I love it!
yeah I agree, I actually follow only one vocal coach channel, only Chirs, and one Extreme Metal Vocals channel from Poland.. The other ones focused on a type of music I don't really listen to, and were mostly just reacting and talking about it, and not really teaching it that well.
this is what makes Chris Liepe stand out among other youtuber "vocal coach" because he shows the entire process of how to get the sound by making those funny whiny cat, voice cracking sounds which is REALLY essential and he truly does demonstrate it. While those other "coaches" just blabs out random singing jargons and proceeds to demonstrate only the final product like "how did you just do that"? Lol
You have been a great vocal teacher so far. And to see what M- Shadows does is always super interesting. Thank you for everything Chris! I've learned so much from you. from healthy grit to sing higher to being more confident while singing. Thank you a lot! :D
I remember myself several years ago driving, getting into doing vocals and getting frustrated because I couldn't achieve M Shadows' sound, didn't quite get what he was doing to make this awesome sounding rasp. To the point where out of frustration I just let myself go without thinking how it may sound, reached as high of a note as I could with whatever rasp-thing I had. Funnily enough, I hit the vocal break and my voice fell apart into the most wonderful way. I was shocked and thought - Jimmy (The Rev)! That's what he's doing! Because it sounded so similar. Couple years ago, I found your channel, Chris, and stumbled upon a video where you were demonstrating the vocal break - scream approach. You were the first person I saw on TH-cam showing this type of distortion and explaining it. The approach of not being afraid of sounding silly and making strange noises, embracing vocal break and, most importantly, acknowledging that you are NOT going to sound just like your favorite vocalist but you really can implement the techniques to discover your OWN voice, that's what I liked about you and your channel. And now, the circle closed - not only you did an incredible job of breaking down the Avenged song and telling everything about the techniques being used, you demonstrated it yourself! You did what many other vocal teachers fell short of. The most rewarding thing was seeing you reacting to Jimmy and appreciating his talent. It is the acknowledgement he deserved. A massive thank you for everything you've done.
I'm so glad you decided to do this one. It's one of Avenged most dynamic songs vocally in a number of ways and as a huge Avenged fan It's really cool to hear your breakdown of it.
I commented for m shadows break down and you delivered m shadows and the rev in one of my favorite songs by them. Love the content. Keep up the awesome work.
When you say "The Rev does that kind of stuff really well too" at 8:25 while touching on vocal break up, its interesting you make note of it because Jimmy wrote this song, so what you're listening to is probably Matt singing what Jimmy originally did in a demo, which is so signature to his own sound. Really cool you caught and noted the translation between the two.
I’ve been a huge avenged fan for over a decade and a half, and I’ve heard so much of the rev in your voice, so the fact that you put so much emphasis and focus on him is so incredibly satisfying.
I keep coming back to this. I love being able to hear the Rev's vocals like this. I know the isolated vocals are out there, but the enthusiasm in this is infectious.
What a great analysis!!! Thats such a great point about telling a story within a phrase. I'm such an unabashed Avenged Sevenfold homer, and this is my favorite song of theirs. It has everything I want in a song: top notch orchestral instrumentation, vocal harmonies upon vocal harmonies, vocal performances that are "imperfect" but translate an emotion or feeling that makes it jump out of the speakers, shredding guitar solo... I always tell people that if you want a masterclass on vocal harmonies, Sidewinder and Afterlife are top-of-the-food-chain and I'd put them up against any song by any artist ever... Sia's Elastic Heart is right there with them.
I'd really love to see one on "scream" from the same album. the rev's vocals there are so good and shadows just brings the power throughout the whole song.
Two of my favourite vocalists, I've always tried to add a bit of them in my own voice. I love how you pick apart and replicate The Rev's vocals, you absolutely nail it which really isn't easy! The breaks, cracks in his voice and the way his notes sometimes progressed into pure madness always sounded so cool, unique and emotional to me. Brilliant as ever Chris 🤘
I watch Chris's videos but I have no aspirations to do any kind of vocal work. Lol I just watch because I find these breakdowns interesting. And now he's doing one for one of my fav bands!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
That long scream from The Rev, If I remember correctly, it was not only 1 take but he was sitting down kinda slouched and relaxed when he did it. Great video btw. I learn more from you than anyone else I've watched.
I have been waiting for this analysis of the revs vocal for so long. Thank you chris it was worth the wait. All your other vids really helped me improve my vox in the past 2 years
I've enjoyed this song for years now but hearing the vocals like this has been mind blowing. Fantastic!! As well, your enthusiasm is infectious & talent inspiring, Chris. Thank you for another most excellent video!!
i love this video man, very useful production wise , and also you just reminded me why i love this song so much , it deffinetely hit some eomotional spot with me
Please do "A Little Piece of Heaven" next. If you love listening to The Rev's vocals, you need to listen to that song. And the ending chorus where he's harmonizing with Matt is AMAZING! He does a scream on the word "begun" where it starts as him singing the note then devolves into a scream that still gives me chills.
TheRev is one of my biggest influences in the drums since I was 15-16 in 2013 when I discovered him with A7x. Since that moment I've always thought that I could never sing and scream like him and watching you nailing it gives me hope to try it and reach that goal. Please make the Isolated Vocals of "Scream", those are very scary
enjoyed your analysis so much! ive always been casually interested in singing but never took the leap to actually start practicing but this really piques my interest again
Great song! Also I think the harmonies in the chorus are sung by all members in the band (not sure if Johnny is in there). I believe the highest harmony is the REV.
I’m sure it’s been recommended at this point, but I’d love to see you do a video on their LBC performance of this song and maybe some more from that show as well. The fact that Jimmy delivers his vocals with the same quality while playing live is just incredible. One of the best recorded live shows in my opinion.
Not only is it doubled but it has a good bit of reverb and gain too, but the extra bit of reverb not needed is cut off the top off the mix, which makes it sheen even more as you say. People forget how much that helps
Great vid! Can you do a video on the vocal tone / production of Tobias Forge's voice from Ghost? As far as doubling and harmonies go, it's practically Ghost's signature sound
I would love if you looked at more of M. Shadows and a bit more into their old stuff. I’m keen to learn how he screams in all their old songs. Second heartbeat is a song with heaps of screaming
Almost 12 years after the passing of The Rev and he is still deeply missed.
#foREVer
December 28th. He should do a vocal analysis of Fiction.
😔
Chris, your enthusiasm about Jimmy's voice does him justice. I've never had many friends that listen to Jimmy like you did in this video. Thank you for that. It's like listening to this song for the first time again. (almost 15 years later.. )

Honestly the rev had one of the most underrated vocal abilities. Legit had the most incredibly unique voices.
The Rev’s vocals on this album are legendary. So cool to hear that pitch scream at the end of that line. I’d never noticed it before seeing this video! M Shadows brought the heat as always. Thanks for making all these awesome breakdowns!
hey
You can totally tell how much Chris loves the chorus, he just sits there listening like he's not doing a video! 😁
It is an amazing chorus.
It sure is.
"Listen again just cause I want too..."
Gotta be honest, just love Jimmy's vocal...
Can you do one on “A Little Piece of Heaven”? That’s one of my favs and there’s a lot going on vocally wise between them on that song too.
this
Use their official breakdown!
There's too much to miss too easily!
most definitely
Yess!!
That’s such a great song! Cheers from Brazil 🥃
Oh man, my girlfriend always mentions you when she talks about my investment ideas. That it's a Pit Money something. Or was it the other way around?

🇧🇷
Mesmo sabendo que tu ama rock n' roll nunca pensei ver um comentario teu no youtube que nao fosse sobre investimentos ou wiskey hahahaha
The rev was definitely a musical genius! Have you thought about going over his lead vocal stuff in pinkly smooth?
He died so young..
That long scream that you thought was looped, is not looped, nor artificially lengthened. Thats the rev actually screaming for 21 seconds.
12:52 hearing The Rev's isolated vocals from Afterlife...just hits me in the feels 😭 RIP REV and thank you Chris for helping me FINALLY nail this part! 👏
when they played afterlife live and his vocals came over the pa i legitimately teared up

I couldn't care less of those pretentious vocal coaches who does reaction without actually able to demonstrate them.

Nice pic.
@@marcelo2564 thanks, you like opeth?
You have been a great vocal teacher so far. And to see what M- Shadows does is always super interesting. Thank you for everything Chris! I've learned so much from you. from healthy grit to sing higher to being more confident while singing. Thank you a lot! :D
M shadow + You = Inspiration

A massive thank you for everything you've done.
Everytime I hear The Rev's voice it's amazing, I never get tired of him singing. What a shame we couldn't get much more from him, rest in peace Jimmy
"one of the greatest recorded moments is all of vocal history" couldn't agree more!
I'm so glad you decided to do this one. It's one of Avenged most dynamic songs vocally in a number of ways and as a huge Avenged fan It's really cool to hear your breakdown of it.
Been waiting for this one, always wanted to try singing it. Keep up the great uploads!

Your more harsh vocals sound VERY similar to the Rev! Very impressive.
and the rev actualy singing that part during hitting his drum together on his live performance. what a legend!🖤
I watch Chris's videos but I have no aspirations to do any kind of vocal work. Lol I just watch because I find these breakdowns interesting. And now he's doing one for one of my fav bands!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
What an awesome surprise!! Great analysis and so glad you did M Shadows again!
These analysis are really helpful, thanks chris, your videos are just amazing
Avenged Sevenfold content is always worth it. Looking forward for more of these kind of videos. Keep up the good work
Been impatiently waiting for an A7x one of these, great breakdown as always! The Revs voice was always underrated imo.
Jimmy did that parts while he's playing drums in a live concert effortlessly, what a legend!
That long scream from The Rev, If I remember correctly, it was not only 1 take but he was sitting down kinda slouched and relaxed when he did it.

Amazing video, Chris. I have always loved this song and your breakdown of it is so fascinating.
YESSS!!!! I LOVE THIS SONG!!! THANK YOU CHRIST!!!!
I absolutely love these videos. Personally can’t sing for shit but there’s something so satisfying watching you break down these vocals. Keep it up!
Yeeeessss!!!
The Rev has recently become my favorite artist ever! Dude was such a creative force.
I could really feel your anticipation for that scream through the screen… powerful 💪
So pumped! My favorite band back in HS/College
Oh my God finally someone appreciates the revs part as much as I do 😍😍😍
I would LOVE to hear a breakdown of “Girls not Grey” by AFI.
To hear Havocs voice isolated would be incredible
I've enjoyed this song for years now but hearing the vocals like this has been mind blowing. Fantastic!!
As well, your enthusiasm is infectious & talent inspiring, Chris. Thank you for another most excellent video!!
Glad you enjoy it!
"Listening again just 'cause I want to" yeah, you've earned another subscriber
13:20 that part is amazing gives me chills everytime rev was amazing its so sad he left to early what he left us in such a small time is amazing
They are one of my favorite band for a long time because these vocal.
Uhhh yessss!!! Very nice song. And great analysis as always ;)
i love this video man, very useful production wise , and also you just reminded me why i love this song so much , it deffinetely hit some eomotional spot with me

I love how you show us how you try, try and ytry to reach the same pattern on your cpacity, dude. You're a beast.
Excellent video.
I've been waiting so long for you to do an episode on M Shaodows voice and you threw The Rev in there too. Awesome! Thanks so much for the insight 🙏
I think there is another Video on M.Shadow by Chris
@@callyatheoriginal oh cool, I haven't seen that one yet. Must have happened before I came across Chris Liepe. Thanks for letting me know!
This is a very clean vocal analysis. Please do it at critical acclaim live in lbc too. Your demonstration are so crystal clear.
Man, you're crazy! I never found a vocal explanation like you did in this video!
TheRev is one of my biggest influences in the drums since I was 15-16 in 2013 when I discovered him with A7x. Yes thank you this is the song i want to nail down the most.
blows my mind how easily you replicate Jimmy’s voice. subscribed so fast. i’d love to learn more.
I love how you and me had the same visceral reaction listening to his isolated vocals
enjoyed your analysis so much! ive always been casually interested in singing but never took the leap to actually start practicing but this really piques my interest again
Matt had an incredible voice in this album
Your voice actually look like The Rev's voice, so cool! I like your video
Matt had such a distinct distortion to his voice, and Jimmy's grit and distortion will never be compared
Thank you, I cried.
foREVer
Would love some three days grace isolated vocals!!
My favorite song!!!
Great song! Also I think the harmonies in the chorus are sung by all members in the band (not sure if Johnny is in there). I believe the highest harmony is the REV.
Dude you should do a full cover of it, you would do an amazing job
You´re great Chris!! Thanx 4 the videos. Greetings from Argentina.
this is the best analysis yet I think.
Bro you just nail the rev's voice every time, gave me chills. Keep up with the content.
BEST EPISODE EVER !!! 🔥🔥
DAMMIT CHRIS!!! HIT AFTER HIT!! NON-STOP PERFECT DELIVERY! HAPPY FRIDAY
I’m sure it’s been recommended at this point, but I’d love to see you do a video on their LBC performance of this song and maybe some more from that show as well. The fact that Jimmy delivers his vocals with the same quality while playing live is just incredible. One of the best recorded live shows in my opinion.
You are the best vocal coach in internet
When he was addressing the rev I half expected him to say oh boy rick
Awesome video, awesome analysis. Very useful. Thak you!
Bro dose a perfect impression of the rev
Muy buen video ! gracias por el análisis, me encanto .
Great material🔥🔥🔥💣
Your voice replicating The Rev’s pleasantly surprised me
Your voice is awesome!!! Is like a The rev voice! Good video i like so much a7x and i hope you post more video like this
The rev is unmatched vocally and as a songwriter
the Rev's gonna be proud of you man 🤟
Great song choice as an example of their work!
Not only is it doubled but it has a good bit of reverb and gain too, but the extra bit of reverb not needed is cut off the top off the mix, which makes it sheen even more as you say. People forget how much that helps
Still loving you chris
Jimmy had such a great vocal ability, love his screams!
revs scream gave me goosebumps
R.I.P big baby! legend the rev!
nice, thanks algorithm for showing me this. i'm gonna stick around for a bit.
Thanks for subbing!
A little piece of heaven please
Great vid! Can you do a video on the vocal tone / production of Tobias Forge's voice from Ghost? As far as doubling and harmonies go, it's practically Ghost's signature sound
i miss you Jimmy The Rev
foREVer 🙏❤️😭🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭
the craziest thing of this, it's that in lbc, the rev sang his line just like in the album, except for the scream at the end.
I would love if you looked at more of M. Shadows and a bit more into their old stuff. I’m keen to learn how he screams in all their old songs. Second heartbeat is a song with heaps of screaming
I just found a new kinda distortion grit using your stage whisper technique.
