The 4 BEST Non-Russell Group UK Universities!
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 27 ส.ค. 2023
- These are the top Non-Russell Group universities in the UK. Choosing a university based on it being a Russell Group is common but when looking at the UK university rankings, we find there are several UK universities which outshine the majority of the Russell Group and that's what this video will cover. I've identified 4 UK universities which don't get as much attention even though they're ranked very highly in the UK university tables. The University of St Andrews, Bath University, Lancaster University and Loughborough University are all chosen because of how they've performed over the past few years and what their future potential are.

I feel like the Russell group uni’s are just a badge for prestige and not necessarily quality. These non-russell group uni’s do not need to join. Ironically, the group needs them to look good!
Definitely agree with this and you're right that the Russel Group would love these unis to be a part of it. I might make a video on Russel Group unis that arent really prestigious!
The redbrick universities are among the most prestigious institutions in the UK with entry qualifications very similar to those for Oxford and Cambridge. The High Fliers' annual report of the 100 top employers in the UK places several redbrick universities above both Oxford and Cambridge graduates for the capabilities of their graduates. These are the Universities of Leeds, Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, Warwick and Nottingham. Along with Oxford & Cambridge, all the above universities are members of the UK's elite Russell Group of universities.
I've visited the campuses of a couple of these, so I'll add my impressions for those:
Lancaster: Equally solid across all departments for STEM, social sciences, and humanities; and visible research trickling down through PG and UG. Out-of-city location, regular buses, and lots of shops on-campus. Genuine sense of a buzzing community for study and social life. I agree, UNDERRATED!
Bath: At the top of steep hill that descends into a beautiful city. For STEM and social sciences, excellent, but barely any humanities (it perhaps defers to Bath Spa Uni); for me, research suggests interdisciplinarity, so I prefer unis to cover all bases. For undergraduate STEM subjects, definitely a Russell Group alternative.
Awesome feedback! I’m definitely going to quote your comments in a video as I’m sure it’s useful to a lot of people!
During my UCAS application I firmed the University of Bath (Non Russel Group) over the University of York (Russel Group) for Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. I never knew the Uni of Bath had such good placements and after watching this video, I might consider a placement year with my course. I hope bath can slot into the Russell Group in the future as it deserves to be in the elite. 😂
thanks for the info about placements at Bath as I might consider it now.
Id say Bath is better than York. York is great but Bath has consistently been improving and producing great graduates
@@CertifiedTalks lovely to hear. Yeh I’m going to Bath this Year (firmed it over York) and I was really debating whether I should do a placement year at Bath. Loads of people have been saying that Bath is really high on placements and ur video is kinda saying the same too so I might consider it.
@@CertifiedTalksYork is better
Russell group is not in the elite when you take into account they discriminated against the best independent schools applicants. It's now believed by many to being a group that's promoting mediocrity unfortunately
Great video i have been very interested in some of these university so it’s great to learn more about them👍
Very informative.
Happy you found it useful!
Oxbridge is no longer the institution it once was unfortunately. The standards have dramatically dropped as all they now care about is their discrimination against the best independent schools applications coupled with giving an easy entrance to underperforming international students whose higher fees are more desirable to them fir business reasons. This means that they have to drop course standards. This means non Russell group universities are benefitting from this as so many of the countries brightest and able students are going elsewhere where as Oxbridge and Russell group universities are settling and aiming for mediocrity and all in the name of makingmire money ti the detriment of the best English students. It's a shame.
Literally so true
After the recent run of Prime Ministers, I think 'Oxford graduate' is a badge of quality that asks for closer scrutiny. As an institution, it still has the labs and libraries, though.
Hello, Which is the best uni in UK for Msc Aritificial Intelligence in terms of employablity? I have offers from uni of birmingham, aberdeen and QMUL.Have also applied to imperial, edinburgh and bristol but the results havent come yet
Imperial by far. Then Bristol which has a good robotics dept. Birmingham then Qm/Edinburgh either . Edin is a better and nicer uni to attend than Qm but also isolated
@@CertifiedTalks ok thanks a lot
Could you do more videos, I would be interested in Lancaster
I will look into doing this, its a very interesting university that is one of the best now.
@@CertifiedTalksyes
Hi I am thinking of applying to Southampton, Cardiff and Warwick for my Msc in Cyber Security. What do u think about these Unis? Or are there any others aswell?
Thanks
All are very good unis, if you get into any you'll do well. The other options could be more stem focussed unis such as imperial, UCL etc
@@CertifiedTalks thanks for your input. I will consider them aswell👍
Good luck with your studies!
Hi , i have msc marketing offers from University of Bath and Exeter , msc. advance marketing offers from Lancaster and liverpool and msc strategic marketing from cranfield. Which one should I choose?
This is tricky, what is your background, do you have any professional experience?
can you please rank these universities for Msc HRM based on employability and reputation - Loughborough University
Nottingham University
University of Surrey
Queen's University Belfast
Nottingham Trent University
University of Birmingham
University of Leeds
Ulster University
Unis in each group are not in order. But if split in three groups:
1. Nottingham/Loughborough/Birmingham
2. Surrey/Leeds/Queens
3. Others
@@CertifiedTalks loughborough has a reputation for being a sport university, will this impact me negatively whilst finding a job because I'm doing a management degree? Which of these are highly reputed for their management and business in the UK? and, thank you for the insights
Hi, another useful video. I want to do geography and economics applying to LSE,UCL,Leeds,Loughborough, Lancaster. Am hoping to go into the finance sector, do you think these will help? Thanks
very good unis mate! Focus on the first two as they will definitely get you interviews. The other ones are great universities as well but youll have to be well rounded with a lot of extra curricular activities as well
@@CertifiedTalksthank you, yes i think that ucl and lse are on another level😅😅. Do you think going to the other three is worth it, considering the debt and other factors that come with going to those. I was watching afzal hussein and he seems to think degrees arent particularly important, and if you do one it should be good… So i dont know whether a geography degree(needless to say with econ) is worth it
@bmn4609 those other three are excellent universities. You can definitely get a great job graduating from them but they’re not going to make it easy to get a FO role in finance. But what’s the alternative….? It’s easy to say not to go uni but I would only say if your sole focus is getting a top job post uni then don’t bother with the ones ranked below 50th place.
There are several degree apprenticeships now with big4 and IB eg at Leeds which is also an option. At the top unis the subject is less important.
@@CertifiedTalks ok thank you for all the help
@@CertifiedTalks Leeds isn't rated?
I'm confused between loughborough, exeter, birmingham for MSc management program. Which one should I choose?
Id be confused as well lol those are all great unis! What uni did you do your undergrad in and what do you want from your uni experience at postgrad?
Hi is bath university good for a law graduate who is doing MSc Sustainability and Management? I dont have work ex although i have good extra curricular and 3-4 good internships.
Hello i got offer for Msc HRM from
1.university of strathclyde
2.university of york
3.university of liverpool
4.Newcastle university
and waiting for offers from cardiff university and university of exeter as well
so if you are in my place which uni will you choose and please recommend atleast 3 from the list
congrats on the offers, all are good unis. I would choose Cardiff/ York/Exeter in terms of uni reputations but theyre also very different cities. Cardiff i feel has a good mix of everything.
Thank you
@@CertifiedTalks
got offer in msc computer science from both university of birmingham( being an russel group) and aston university in birmingham. Which offers good placement support and graduate outcome. Confused in choosing uni
choose birmingham
Birmingham would have a better reputation overall but I feel Aston is more famous for its placement years and so has more contacts/experience in helping students
is University of Leicester good for computer science?
its good, not elite level but it is a decent overall university for sure.
Big up Lancaster 🥳
Very impressive uni! Expecting big things from it over the next decade
Whats your opinion on UEA and is it respectable? (Im applying for actuarial science)
There’s not many places that offer this degree. The degree is highly respected so if that’s your choice than go for it.
i have an offer from uni of leeds and uni of bath for msc management. which one should I choose?
That's tricky, is there anything you specifically like about each uni eg cost, location...?
Bro How is Birkbeck for MSc Data Science for employability? I have no work experience.
It’s very good , it’s in my top10 London uni video I made. but there’s one thing important to remember for your course and graduating from Birkbeck, you need good demonstrable skills as well as work experience. This could be from a previous job or projects you’ve done on the side.
I’m really confused between QMUL, aston and strathclyde university for my mcs in management program. Please reply ro me
QMUL mate
Me too! 😅
Let's connect?
Should I choose Queen Mary or these universities for finance ?
is it straight finance degree or other degrees options?
MSc Investment Management
University of Liverpool/ Sussex/Strathclyde for Msc Financial Technology?
Probs select them in the order you wrote the unis in
How's Sussex overall for finance?
Are you mental? It's almost impossible to get into St. Andrews!
I think St Andrews had the highest ucas points score out of uk unis!
Does university of Edinburgh offer bachelor in accounting as it shows MA in accounting and finance I
@@CertifiedTalksdoes university of Edinburgh offer bachelor in accounting and finance
Edinburgh does 4 years degree for most of its courses similar to American style. The 4 year course is really a bachelors, your first year is generic
lancaster mba or bayes mba
How is university of surrey for masters of accounting and finance?
It’s decent but why do you want to study that degree? If you want to be an accountant it’s not going to add value
@@CertifiedTalks Yeah that's what I am concerned about too, the course work is very generic and it wouldn't add value. I've been exploring other options too but I am quite confused as to what it should choose. Can I contact you? It would be a huge huge help if you can address my queries, thanks!
@@ihaziqhabibit'll probably give u 12 exemptions to become chartered, it's not a pointless degree at all
oh I didn't read the masters part, yeh there is no point doing it just try get a graduate program for it
