Gundam 00 was the first set in the modern era, and it's become quite prophetic in how the world of the 2020's is starting to shape up
Too...much...mecha....anime! My mind is in overdrive. Mecha is probably my favorite genre of anime and this video just about covered all the greats. It was fun reliving all of those excellent series I have watched over the years.
I love how gundam build fighters combines the mecha genre with aspects of sports anime, it's awesome
Voltes V should be on this list, as this was Yoshiyuki Tomino's first produced anime, and both of them (Combattler V and the Voltes V) initiated the 5-Vehicle Gattai Mecha concept, which will be used 10 years later on every Super Sentai season.

The Gundam 08th is the best. A fan of Gundam since day one, the original show , the 08th is the culmination of the best aspects of war robots in a scenario. The fight scenes bear resemblance to the best of mazinger z the all time best. Nothing comes close ❤

Mecha didn't technically die, with the Witch of Mercury that is a Gundam anime, and another that I forgot but had like fifty episode that come out in the beginning of this year, Isekai sure is dominating, but some people already complaining, because is a short cut for lazy writing, very good Isekai are few and far between, like Log Horizon and The Saga of Tanya The Evil.
yeah, Gundam by itself is #1 in merchandise sales for bandai, and #2 in total just behind db for a few millions,
considering that "nobody" in America seem to know about gundam it pretty much says how popular truly is in japan and Asia

My favorite mecha anime are mobile suit Gundam, super dimensional fortress Macross, neon Genesis Evangellion, Macross frontier, patalabor and Manziger z .
Very few of these are actually worth watching. This comment section has better recommendations.
I just watched all of EVERY.SINGLE.Gundam Series, so the rest of mecha anime will be continued anyhow to up next watched.

Where is Tengen Toppa Guren Lagann? Gunbuster? Shin Mazinger? Aoki Ryusei SPT Layzner? Shin Mazinger? Giant Robo? Eureka Seven? Xabungle? Macross Plus? Neo Ranga? Gun X Sword? This is an okay beginner list I guess but jeeze guys, you are missing so many great shows in favor of shows that are "mecha adjacent" like ghost in the shell and bubble gum crisis.
I get a feeling these videos are written and narrated by AI. that's why some thimgs they say and include or exclude dont make much sense.

I can't remember much about it but you had one guy and lots of girls because it was mainly woman who Piloted the mechas! One big difference i can remember from other anime is he and the mecha kinda came out if a big egg!!

Not every Gundam show is a part of a large story
For example:Mobile Suit Gundam witch from mercury
It is a New show
It is comepletely seperate from the other shows
The only ones you need to backtrack or watch the start of is Universal century which starts at The first Gundam show Mobile Suit Gundam
The Mecha or "Mobile Suits" of UC are usually Blocky
Bro idc about war or something I just need animes like gundam build dive/fighters kinda thing, cause it's cool plus hey don't care if hey fight plus sometimes they get some awasome moves that are not even possible in the whole gundam franchise, so yeah i wanna get something like that and I also want some good quality ones

It's not just Mechs vs Monsters, it's also horror-survival & quite serious!
Not a bad list, sans including stuff that while very good isn't mecha... mecha needs to centrally feature GIANT robots. Emphasis on the giant bit.
Ghost in the shell has A giant robot at the end, but it isn't at all central to the story, Bubblegum Crisis & Astro Boy feature robots, but they aren't giant ones, with different symbolism around man-vs-machine as a result. All very good anime folks should watch, but not really mecha, and the time could have been better spent to talk more about shows which better qualify, I think.
To put this in focus, see how many commentstors obviously bounced around & didn't watch the whole way thru... or how the marked timestamps run out 1/2 way in. Clearly you weren't in need of the filler.
Organization could have also been improved, eg just put all the Gundams together, ditto Macross & Orgus.
Still a pretty good list just literature- reviewing the whole genre, with each entry decently researched & summarized, but could have used just a bit more focus & editing love

Xabungle, King Gainer, Galient, Turn A, Dunbine, anything from the Robot Romance Trilogy, Giant Robo (OVA), Da-Garn, Gunbuster, and G Gundam appear to be missing. I'll just list 'em here...
Xabungle is notable for having a Desert Punk setting with gas-powered mecha - Mad Max and maybe Duel with giant robots, if you like - and was deliberately written as a comedy. Way back in the early 80s, this show was parodying the genre before anyone else.
King Gainer never bothers to explain what makes its mecha work (it borders on Fantasy in this regard). It has a distinct arctic feel and continues the comedy/parody/heavy drama feel of Xabungle. It's particularly famous for a specific mind reading love declaration scene, the kind that almost no one has the guts to put into anime.
Galient is a straight-up Heroic Fantasy, and the origin of the "whip-sword" you see everywhere nowadays. Why does it have mecha at all, then? _Aliens.jpg_
Turn A is the director's masterpiece. If Gundams suddenly appeared left and right in the 1920s, what would happen? Easy: this show. Not only that, but virtually everyone _actually_ wants peace in the end, with all the de-escalation that entails. The ending is a visual treat.
Dunbine didn't _invent_ the Isekai/Parallel World plot as a whole, but it definitely did for the Mecha genre. The Aura Battlers all have a distinct insectoid appearance (and technically aren't mecha in the same way as Tekkaman Blade), and the Aura Power they run on is far more plentiful on our world than Bystone Well, leading to an escalating war that makes nuclear winters look cheerful.
The Robot Romance Trilogy consists of Combattler V, Voltes V, and Daimos. The human drama takes more and more precedence with each entry and they're considered classics of the genre.
Giant Robo (OVA) is a mecha series in the sense that there's a Giant Robo(t) in it. But what's actually going on is an escalating conflict between the Espers of the ICPO and the Big Fire Group, over a force which threatens to strip all energy away from mankind. "Can happiness be obtained without sacrifice?" The heroes are heroic, the villains are villainous, and Giant Robo is every bit giant and a robot in a way that no one's really tried to duplicate since.
Da-Garn is the story of a kid who, in the face of an alien invasion, becomes the Captain of a team of robots created by the Earth itself. It's the darkest of the 90s Yuusha series and something of a forgotten gem.
Gunbuster is what happens when no one tells Anno to _stop escalating._ Like Evangelion but with hard SF instead of pseudo-religion - and if everyone involved took a look at Ideon and though "we can give them a happy ending".
G Gundam is the first successful non-UC Gundam series, and one that gets better with age. Every meme you've seen about it is true and somehow just as sensible in context. You will cry when Domon finally surpasses Master Asia.
(I thought about adding Dougram, which takes the then-unusual route of setting the mecha battles as the side effects of politics, but runs too long. Megazone 23, Fight! Iczer-1, Dangaioh, and Detonator Orgun are interesting, short, and good examples of what was going on in the 80s, but suffer the usual pacing/focus issues plaguing OVA series. And Cat Ninden Teyande is just silly in a way that rivals Samurai Pizza Cats.)

I should add there Brave raideen and by extension Rahxephon, brave raideen, along with ultraman, Space Runaway Ideon, and Victory gundam were the basis for all of evangelion,
there is a misconception that evangelion is based on the bible or has bible references but most likely hideaki anno didn't even know christianism and only added those elements because of ultraman and victory gundam
but, how could we forget about Eureka Seven? we already got escaflowne and aquarion, from the same mechanical designer, also Five Star Stories needed to be here
Great additions. I find this vid to be pretty comprehensive of most of the big and important mecha shows. It’s only really missing the Robot Romance trilogy and Gunbuster. Those are other good additions, but I find them to be unnecessary. It would be nice to have, but like with the brave series Might Gaine and GaoGaiGar are the two big series in the franchise.
