Not quite. It went through a single car door and through some wood. If the car door deformed the bullet (possible) it might not have had enough penetration to go through as much wood because it wouldn't have it in the ideal cross section and probably would be keyholing. A 5.56 nato round has 1700 joules of energy while this launcher has just under 1000 joules.
556 is not supposed to have high penetration, the dart is also hugely more massive with a file hard steel tip. it's not really a fair comparison to make.
FMJ, which is standard for a nato 5.56 round, would've sliced through that car door and out the back of the shed without any issues, even deformed. You highly underestimate the penetration power behind that round. It slices through standard lightweight kevlar vests easily, and at a distance too. The standard nato 55gr is small and moves at 2700 fps out of a very short barrel of 10.5". Out of the ideal 24" it moves at 3300. This bolt being a very large and slow moving round compared to all modern bullets will by nature have far less penetration power. It probably even penetrates less than a .45 acp. Might seem like a silly idea but maybe it would be more efficient if you made a grip for the pump that was horizontal that you can slide your palm into. Sort of similar in shape to a circular shopping bag grip, but tighter against your hand? That way it's easier (at least in my head imagining it) to keep the crossbow pointed where you want it to be as you pump it. It might also be more stable too.

I have a question, why didn't you make it so the trigger end is also the string pull back handle? isnt it a little awkward for you to press your hands together to pull the string back? if you had the trigger pull the string back (almost like a bow or slingshot motion) and have the pistol grip slide up from a slot on the bottom with a hook attached to it(that would slide underneath the string and grab it once it passes). I feel as though it would get you quicker results than the second version.
Joerg, you should make a sort of ballista slingshot, but have it very portable, with some sort of spike at the bottom that you can stick into the ground and then pull the sting and release it with massive force.
I put a cheap AR-15 stock on my Cobra crossbow ($8 on Ebay). Works great to steady the bow. Increased the total length by about 2" and I can still shoot it like a pistol, if I want.
Ein 22 minütiges Video? Ist wirklich toll, dir bei der Erschaffung einer neuen Kreation, von Anfang bis Ende über die Schulter schauen zu dürfen. yes but when he makes something he makes it exactly as he intends it to be. but since this is a tutorial you could make one yourself and add the shoulder stock.
awesome. you always give an answer to my 'what if'. like, what if I had a gatling sling shot.... you already made such machines before I even could questions
hi Jörg, this design is very similar to an ancient Chinese design, but I like the pump action a lot, makes it easier to aim it's definitely an improvement over the over lever system, great work! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repeating_crossbow
at the time of 17:30 its not fair. you reload all bolts for original cobra and that increased a lot of time. but for remaining two you already have fully loaded magazine. You should start with all three guns with no bolts in it.
I really cool job i love it! But it seems it's not so easy to arm it at least not super fast and i thought of something that could maybe help, i'm not expert and not sure it could be done or even be effective, but can't you add a triger on the right handle which block a spring or rubber mechanism which whould add force to arm the weapon ?
Where did it go..... next doors Audi?😆 I see a nice levered/geared/combination? Easy pump system mounted on all that available upper side panel area👍 great build!
I thing an AR rifle type cocking handle would work too. I guess that depends on which motion you like best, the inwards push or the outwards pull or which you think is safest?
I learned a valuable lesson today when testing out my replicated Jorg-Ko-Nu...wooden triggers, even plywood wooden triggers are not recommended for crossbows of any poundage. My left thumb took the brunt of the strings snap back. Ouch. Now I'm fabricating a metal one. Here's hoping lol. I have rigged a 'safety' on my pistol crossbow for those just in case moments.
I almost wonder if something closer to a shotguns forestock would work better for resetting the bow string. The grip you've got there seems like it would be leveraging at an angle which would generate a lot of extra friction making it harder, thus slowing you down.
Out of curiosity could you increase the barrel lengths along with the arrow lengths to increase the arrow velocities for your air guns, or do you already have the lengths pretty well optimized for practicalities sake?
Huge like to this vid! You are very generous to give this sort of advice and how-to vids for free! Thanks! It is also very entertaining to watch an arrow disappear in a car door! :D
is there not a way you can spring mount the slide rather than using elastic bands? like for example have a hinged piece of wood that lifts out with springs facing down to put pressure on the slide?
Once again, you get far beyong the expectation.. in both model , maybe i should say, in three model you showed us.. including the 1000 joules air gun..very impressive...for now, didn,t see how you filled the air reservoir.. not manually right ? Question, about the 1000 joule airgun...is it possible to make a silencer to make it more discrete without loosing efficiency ? i would like to see this gun shoot in free space to see how far it can get.. metal doo and wood board make it slowing down a bit.. a big bit...so Congratulation again.. i appreciate all your ingeniousity A co mment though.. when you use rubberband to the wooden crossbow, my experience is that they last only few weeks. how long last yours ? are they from better rubber quality ? what we get here come from China so fater some time they like..dry out.. and then brake very easily. cold they be replace with better rubberband ? like those for sling shot ? and it end up at you glued your wooden gun.. but half way through, you could make two piece and assemble them with bolts and screws so it can be oprn and change the rubberband then re assemble...so ?
SVG of parts would be great for CNCs. Or just good perpendicular photos on the back background so you can vectorize them. Is any of these available somewhere or will I have to modelize it myself?

It would have gone straight through.
Imagine if he made them to sell but obviously make it look nicer n high quality materials this is just so smart how he made it! Genius
Can I buy it?
How far this idea has come in the last 4-5 years!! Wow!

Need to test your air cannons on some ivan heads!
Joerg, you should make a sort of ballista slingshot, but have it very portable, with some sort of spike at the bottom that you can stick into the ground and then pull the sting and release it with massive force.
maybe put a stock on the pump version, give yourself something to brace against. Maybe thats not legal haha
Yeah all good suggestions.
people keep suggesting a shoulder stock but then it wouldn't exactly be a pistol anymore would it.
yeah true, but then again a few pistols do come with stocks like the mauser c96, or the luger p08 etc. Just think it shouldn't be ruled out
Timmy T-Rex lots of pistols have stocks
I put a cheap AR-15 stock on my Cobra crossbow ($8 on Ebay). Works great to steady the bow. Increased the total length by about 2" and I can still shoot it like a pistol, if I want.
Klasse Video, weiter so.
Joerg I think the pump action crossbow would be easier to cock if it has a shoulder stock. :)
Qyuubi786 then it becomes more of a rifle and not a pistol any more.
Timmy T-Rex In a survival situation the rifle stock will be more efficient/accurate and more zombies can be shot in quick succession.
yes but when he makes something he makes it exactly as he intends it to be. but since this is a tutorial you could make one yourself and add the shoulder stock.
Pistols can have support stocks
The point of this thing is to be compact.
awesome. you always give an answer to my 'what if'. like, what if I had a gatling sling shot.... you already made such machines before I even could questions
hi Jörg, this design is very similar to an ancient Chinese design, but I like the pump action a lot, makes it easier to aim it's definitely an improvement over the over lever system, great work! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repeating_crossbow
Now, you will need to have a crossbow license to live on the planet Earth because of Joerg. 😂😂😂 I love it.😎😎
Daryl dixon likes it
Yes
he can't right now he's listenning to music.
at the time of 17:30 its not fair. you reload all bolts for original cobra and that increased a lot of time. but for remaining two you already have fully loaded magazine. You should start with all three guns with no bolts in it.
*T O T A L L Y E D G Y*
-3°C with no sweaters. What a legend.
The modified original reloads faster and easier
Yes, but is also 50% heavier and much more bulky.
JoergSprave it's still lighter than a 9mm tho and it's not really that bulky
can you make a rifle version of this model by enlargening the dimensions, I want to add a bayonet so I can make the crossbow more practical
Where did it go..... next doors Audi?😆
I see a nice levered/geared/combination? Easy pump system mounted on all that available upper side panel area👍 great build!
OMG 😳
Was that an Air fired arrow gun?
That's monstrous...
😱 OMG
Down with vampires...
That's amazing 🤩
adding a shoulder stock might reduce the required force needed to charge the handle but this is exactly what i have been fantasizing for
Nice build, Jörg! Maybe some return rubbetband on the cocking handle would improve reloading?
i'm thinking if you put the mag from the bottom and have a side mount slide, your accuracy would greatly improve
I thing an AR rifle type cocking handle would work too.
I guess that depends on which motion you like best, the inwards push or the outwards pull or which you think is safest?
My favorite German ! ! !
Thank you for sharing this with us Brother ! ! !
Love his sense of humor and logic.
Wow and just in time for Christmas. That is one hell of a nice build, Joerg. This will make a nice little DIY present for myself. :)
Man, it's my faavourite channel on YT. You are making great, interesting vids! Thank you!
"Alright let's go for one more ..." 18:26 Empties the magazine. lol .... Joerg can't resist it.
is there not a way you can spring mount the slide rather than using elastic bands? like for example have a hinged piece of wood that lifts out with springs facing down to put pressure on the slide?
Just another awesome project by JoergSprave! Very cool man...........C YA
i like this guy. very calming to listen to.
in the reloading handle instead of screws to hold it in place u could use some roling pieces of metal no?
Her Sprave , you are the best channel on youtube !
Hello Jorg! Nice work! Have you ever though about the same type pump action but with stock? Then you will be able to use your shoulder for support.
Once again, you get far beyong the expectation.. in both model , maybe i should say, in three model you showed us.. including the 1000 joules air gun..very impressive...for now, didn,t see how you filled the air reservoir.. not manually right ? Question, about the 1000 joule airgun...is it possible to make a silencer to make it more discrete without loosing efficiency ? i would like to see this gun shoot in free space to see how far it can get.. metal doo and wood board make it slowing down a bit.. a big bit...so
Congratulation again.. i appreciate all your ingeniousity
A co mment though.. when you use rubberband to the wooden crossbow, my experience is that they last only few weeks. how long last yours ? are they from better rubber quality ? what we get here come from China so fater some time they like..dry out.. and then brake very easily. cold they be replace with better rubberband ? like those for sling shot ? and it end up at you glued your wooden gun.. but half way through, you could make two piece and assemble them with bolts and screws so it can be oprn and change the rubberband then re assemble...so ?
Jorg I'm totally amazed. Would you sell plans to build the bow
SVG of parts would be great for CNCs. Or just good perpendicular photos on the back background so you can vectorize them. Is any of these available somewhere or will I have to modelize it myself?
