Great video - loved all the description and especially enjoyed the A-B segment - keep up the great work
The difference is there PERIOD. I have a Pioneer UDP-LX500 and I know Clones have an upgrade for both Oppo 203-205 and Pioneer LX500-800. I heard clarity, clean, and warmth sounds in the new upgrade, it's almost night and day. I will now pull the trigger on my upgrade. Thank you sir. Excellent video.
How's that "Aluminum BD-ROM Drive Stabilizer" working out for you? I'm thinking about getting it too, but one thing concerns me about it. The weight of the aluminum spindle that makes contact with the actual disk. Will it put a strain on the blu ray drive "motor" itself causing premature wear, and possibly shorten the life span? I was thinking of just using the Aluminum BD-ROM Drive Stabilizer cover by itself, and just place some tall enough rubber bumpers on the oppo stock spindle plate then place the aluminum cover back over the oppo stock spindle plate compressing the rubber bumpers creating a dampening in between the two. 🤔

@Pursuit You broke a fundamental rule. The A/B demo has to be ONLY between two things. The Switching Power Supply versus the Linear one. That's it. Don't mess it up by adding the Stabilisation. Now we don't know how much of the improvement is due to the Linear PS. Please make a proper video showing just the difference in the power supplies, and keep stabilisation out of it. (You can make a separate video for stab if you like.)
I can create any video I want, there are no rules to that. If you want something specific buy the products make the video yourself
Great Video! just a pity you didn't demo the 203 using the stereo out, before and after the upgrade, as this is how most users will be using it. As a transport with a high end DAC like the Chord didn't give the full effect of the total upgrade. Hopefully in a future video.

thanks, with that much benefit using the Oppo purely as a digital transport then I would assume using it as a DAC as well the benefit would be accumulative
@@PursuitPerfectSystem Agreed, if one had deep enough pockets, but using the Chord DAC gives a false impression
of the upgrade and the OPPO player as a whole.
the opposite really, it shows how important the power supply is in a digital transport - you hear a lot of professional AV reviewers and enthusiast say nothing effects digital - the video proves that is wrong

i agree Terry power supply means alot in even a transport . I am about to sale my 203 tommorrow no upgrades the 6000cdt by Audiolab stole me ! and i think it has a 200va mains transformer
I will be totally honest the sound does sound better without the DSP and the upgrade on the OPPO sounds better music wise and it’s a shame about the movie content not being allowed on TH-cam but what about a music video ? There loads on TH-cam just a thought
But looks like the upgrade on the OPPO might be a worthwhile thing to do but is there not anyone in the uk that stocks the parts without importing them in ? Like Amazon
Blacksabbath25 it doesn't sound better without dsp the sound is nit tight and controlled at all. You wait until you hear the Keld song demo off the audio pc bearing in mind the annoying buzzing. In these recordings you can hear the freq response all over the gaff
I know your a DSP fan and there’s nothing wrong in that it’s a good product and you no better then me what your room sounds like as I do not get the full benefit of DSP through headphones or my iPad but it sounded ok to me anyway
Through my B&W headphones i can hear the voice is clearer and more vibrant with the upgrades. The quality mics you are using are helping the differences to be heard without any effort.
Calaf_72 Thanks I have put a lot of effort on getting the recording setup to be good enough but it's the room with such good acoustics allows you to hear the truth even recording at the listening position because there is minimum interference from the room and the setup even though not perfect is very fine tuned so differences are very obvious. If you can record it imagine what it's like in real life even bigger :) thanks for watching and the support
You work hard for those videos and they are meaningful. People read reviews of products but can only imagine what the person that wrote the review heard. You give people access to a well tuned high-end system that makes clear what this hobby is all about.

Well done. Great demonstration. You're right, we should listen to it with good headphones. But 1) Maria Bethania is not a Portuguese singer, in fact she sings in Portuguese, like all brazilians) , but she is Brazilian! 2) Can you talk a little slower? your accent is very peculiar and it is not obvious even for those who speak Portuguese and reasonably well English, Thank you.
Hi Terry quick question... I want to get the linear power module for my oppo 203... I already ungraded my cable to fiber optic HDMI 2.1.... I already see such a huge difference in picture quality... My questions is would I get any better performance if I did install the linear power module from oppo mod? Thank you Terry!!!!

I have listened the recordings presented here (especially the section in the video with A/B comparison) and... sorry, but I liked more the sound before, when it was on the switching power supply and without the aluminum disk stabilizer.

Good work and very helpful. I am in the process of setting up my home cinema again after a move. Changed from my old Denon 3800 to the Oppo 205 and after reading reviews of the Oppo concerned the audio might be more analytical than I will like. So considering power supplies if required.
Was it just me or did the linear power supply have a little more bite and projection. I will have another listen on my pc that’s linked to my office system (small Naim/Sonus Faber)
for me the internal smps sounded very nasal across both tracks - the linear seems to have more dynamic range which is a by product of lowering noise - listen to Garth Powell explanations on noise at very low level signals. Or listen to Rob Watts speak about the importance of small signals and low noise.
The Oppo 205 already has a linear based supply but I dont know how it compares to the upgraded ones from Oppo Mod?

Terry, really glad you mentioned that the original oppo ps was well burned in.... and that, that has yet to fully occur in the replacement(upgrade).... It was very much on my mind.... you know I also asked about how "new" the Luxman was before (for the same reason) I reckon a certain sweetness and smooth quality can be expected as you continue to use the upgraded Oppo.....
BTW.... Really like the idea of component upgrade comparison videos👍🏻
Great video. A very good way to compare the two versions of the Oppo. How do you think your upgrades compare to what Audiocom offer?
Steve Wright audiocom have taken it to the extreme I have only done stage 1 and 2 compared to what they do. Maybe I will look at other things to do in the future thanks for the comments :)

What's the difference in voltage selection when ordering?
Also regarding audio, does audio improve for all sources or only CDs?
not sure on the voltage options I assume Europe and US are catered for 110/230
All audio will be improved I am sure even UHD blu ray

Brilliant video, even on my laptop I could hear a difference, more so on the first track with the linear PSU. So what are your thoughts on this 203 with these upgrades compared ro ACs Signature 203?
I would have loved to have bought an Audicom player - it ticks all the boxes you could want ticked except the price.
If the player is going to be your main and only digital source its worth the money but to me it wasnt as I only spin films in my player.
In saying that I know the importance of clocks so would like to do a Femto clock upgrades for my 203 from OppoMod but that project is very much on hold for now.

@@PursuitPerfectSystem How do you think the Audiocom Signature would compare for CD playback to a proper CD player, the like that Stephen from Audio Consultants would recommend for example? I fear, as expensive as the Oppo Signature is that in my system, it would simply be left behind.

With headphones I was able to capture your room acoustics. An interesting bit of realism.

So if you are replacing the fuse in the new PS, would you use a fast blow or slow blow fuse?
If your replacing a fuse for safety I think you should exactly match the one you take out

Hey Terry I just purchased the last restock of the Oppo 205 bdp. Waiting for shipment. I heard about the Modwright upgrades and what it can do for the Oppo 205, do you think it is necessary giving the fact that I also have the PS Audio Direct stream DAC. If I got the mod upgrade should I use this as a preamp going into my PL HP integrated amp with KT150 power tubes? Speakers are the Kanta 2 with Nordost Heimdall 2 speaker cables. What do you think?
That's hard to say, the directstream is a really great dac. I can't see the upgraded Oppo being a better dac than the directstream but can't say for sure. Have you tried the directstream as a dac and pre?
No I havent thought about that. That might be the way to go and just concentrate on CD and Blu Ray features of the Oppo 205 just for listening to cds and viewing movies. I thought with the Mod upgrade that would also give a nod to SQ in listening to cds and the sound tracks of the bluray movies. Thank you for your feedback, I will try using the direct stream a pre amp too.

Great video. I'm about to do the same on my Oppo 203. A question: i have read that this stabilizer upgrade has some felts beneath that cause more vibrations instead of less. Did you notice this? The felts can be removed easily do you suggest to do that? Thank you.
I would replace those felts with very small rubber bumpers since rubber can absorb vibrations.
Thanks for posting great videos, I have a question about Dirac Live. How well does it work with Dolby Atmos playback? I see in the product description that it doesn’t work with bitstream. Thanks
Ian Peck hello I don't know I haven't tested it for atmos. I am pretty sure in the arcam avr range it uses Dirac Live on all channels and therefore will have Dirac Live on for atmos and DTSX but I only have a 5.2 setup presently so haven't been able to test it out. sorry

manleys69 I haven't really had huge amount of time watching movies since I did the upgrade it gets so hot in the cinema room in the summer but an improved picture yes

linn jazzy HI there not sure what you mean which mode did I use - if you mean Chord Qutest mode then Incisive mode. I paid RRP. from Nintronics great dealer. I bet not many people are expecting the difference you actually get :)
