Thank you for the video. I just change out my Oppo 203 with the upgrade kits and there is a HUGE improvement with both video and audio quality. I have the 130” Stewart StudioTek screen and Sony 325ES projector. Therefore, it is very easy to see the difference between Oppo stock parts vs. the upgrade. Huge improvement in audio quality, including my six height channels.
That's impossible. Take a look at the German company CineMike who have the best modified Oppo player on the market. They measured these Lin. Power supplies and they are even worse then the original power supply. To make the player perform better in audio and video terms you need to modify the mainboard voltages and stabilize the voltages around the chipset and add extra smd filtering and also change the clocks. The power supply does nothing special but transfer the power to 12v and couple it to the mainboard and then you have different voltages devided by more power supplies. The original power supply reacts better to different frequenties depending on what source you play on the Oppo.
I did both of these exact mods to my Oppo 203 about a week ago. I noticed a cleaner/sharper image with more vivid colour on my LG E7 OLED and slightly improved sound on my Yamaha 5.2.2 Atmos setup. At nearly the cost of the 203 itself, this isn't a cheap upgrade, but it does bring some definite improvements to an already excellent HD/HDR Blu ray Player!

Ive fitted the psu from Oppomod and have the stabiliser on its way.
Ive fitted the SR Blue fuse and its a hefty upgrade from the AMR, get one in there.
Something else I’d reccommend is swapping out the IEC inlet to a Furutech silver wired one, and replace the supplied kettle lead with something better. With the linear PSU the player really benefits from improvements in all things power supply related.
(I use a PS Audio cable, they are as awesome as their Dacs)
Damping the internals of the case with Dynamat or similar makes a nice improvement too.
It was your video btw on the Directstream that got me to pull the trigger on one, your comments on sound quality were spot on. 👍🏻
Everything you have suggested there I would agree with and I have messed about with this approach a lot with other products.
Now Furutech have NCF IEC Inlets, I have not tried any NCF based products but would like to. I am hoping to meet the guys from Furutech soon and will ask them all about it.
For damping the chassis I would use a different product because it will have a dual benefit due to its thickness. More on that in later video.
I havent tried the SR Blue's I had all Reds. Now a lot of Blacks - so Blues definately would like to try them going forward and definitely would have already if I hadn't had to buy cameras, lens, lights software and more for the channel

hey sir, I own a oppo UHD-203 and i was watching your demo video of the installation of the LPS MOD and I find your video very intuitive. my question to you is this I only use the 203 for 4K movie watching only and I'M using the HDMI out only. will I benefit from the LPS MOD audio and video or does this mod does not effect any changes to the hdmi out?
I’ve read about heating problem with this kind of mods. Please review more in the long run.
its a big empty chassis I really cant see there being any issues but will keep an eye on it.
From experience Linear Supplies only get warm when they are under a higher load for long time I dont see a BD Player being that but we will see I suppose :) Thanks for suggesting it

You know what they say, when you do things multiple times you get better at it, this video was great, in the sense that it gave you how to do it. When i did my upgrade, i think it went smoother then the demonstration :-). When you pop open the dvd rom, use a needle to get it off, this video didnt really show you how it was done, you see it fiddled with, a cut, and then it being popped off. Use a needle - regardless this video was super helpful. I’m going to test the upgrade in a bit - i’m hopeful i see an improvement...
I used a screw to open mine, I didnt think it was very professional to see me faffing so I cut that bit out :)
Its always easier when you know how to do it - this was my first time :)

Oppomod and you can find them on ebay for $20 more than going direct. Quick communicator - i opted for the super version of the power (+$100) to normal version
im having a issue with mine. It seems when it loads the disc it briefly spins less than 1 rev and says no disc... any idea what could be causing this?

May i suggest a magnetic white board .. you can draw the unit your dissecting ..and using a marker make a diagram ..of whiCh screws go where and pile them on tHe magnetic board ..
This is an old video Mark - now days I would have lit the whole thing up better and done an over the top camera angle but back when I started I didn't have all the equipment to do that or the experience

The upgrades are expensive in my opinion. Do you feel the the difference justifies it mod cost? I have the Oppo UDP203 and use it mostly for music. I will say that I just upgraded from a Oppo HD970 and I hear and see a big difference in the quality of the udp203

i ordered the power supply and the bd-rom stabilizer , very easy to install!!! , unfortunately the bd-rom stabilizer was making more noise than the orginal one , re-installed it like 4 times with the same negative results .

i have the gaia 1 kef ref 5 bryston 14b3 moon 740p preamp and niagara 5000 with tornado and nrg 1000 ac power cables and AQ earth balanced interconnects , i may have a deal for the AQ niagara 7000 so i would have to sell my 5000 to pay the difference between the two units at about 1500 dollars ( is it worth it ??? have ever had a chance to do a/b between the two niagara"s ??? many thanks for your feedback !!!
I had a grinding noise and took video of it as well. Almost crapped myself and thought I had done damage to the drive. Re-installed it 3 times and still the same. So I have emailed oppomod. At this stage I have gone back to the normal Oppo one till I get this sorted.

Its not been used much in the last year but yes I hope so - had a few issues with it but it still worked the last time I used it so fingers crossed
What I'd like to know is how much would it cost to build the original PSU, it looks way more complicated than the linear PSU. If it cost more why did they build it worse.
I dare say Oppo built a very high quality long lasting efficient power supply that will work with different voltages.
There are a lot of people that would say as a digital source power supply cant alter the sound of a digital only signal. My videos clearly demonstrate it does :)

Hi Darren - being honest I was feeding the Oppo into a Chord Qutest DAC and using it with a very high quality stereo amplifier - to hear the differences you did.
I think you might be better off working on your receiver first - put your money there before the Oppo upgrade. I recommend the Arcam's if you can get the budget to go that far - Dirac Live is a monster in the right hands ;)

Okay... I'll forgo the negative comment and just say, there are better ways to upgrade. Bigger and Better TV. Better Speakers, AV Processors and Amplifiers, etc.

QUESTION............I have the Oppo 103. Although i know that it will not output 4k content....is it possible for someone to produce a firmware update, so that it will play content (e.g. MKV. MP4) thru the USB input????? After all, isn't the difference between 1080p h.264 and 1080p h.265 just the codec....which has no hardware component to it??????
