    I have been a live aboard for 21 years. I have a 44 foot Searay. I’m at a full service marina with RV Park. My slip is covered and I pay $525.00 a month which includes water. Electricity in separate which is about $30.00 a month. My insurance is $80.00 a month. We have pool , exercise room , restaurant , laundry mat. Live entertainment every weekend. Security patrol and gates.

    Thank you for how detailed you were with every cost, it was around how much I had estimated (I thought it might come to around 20k annually) and honestly not a bad cost at all, taking into account how those prices changes based on boats and some things we wouldn't do or add that was unique to your situation like upgrades.Also really like that you advertise your local business.

    I think that's a very reasonable amount of money to live that wonderful lifestyle on such a great boat. If it's more than some can afford, just remember, you can reduce the monthly expenses substantially by living on a slightly smaller boat and doing more of the work/preventive maintenance yourself. She also figured in the expenses of the Boston Whaler, which many/most people probably wouldn't have. Thanks for the very detailed video.

    I love the video and I am currently looking for a Boat to live aboard 5-6 months a year in San Diego. I have seen a lot of "No Liveaboards" when looking at Marina's and boats, what is the policy there at yours and how strict are they with keeping track of the days aboard?

    • @TheSeaYallLife
      @TheSeaYallLife  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! We actually pay for a liveaboard slip at our marina, which does except livesboards. However, it’s very difficult to get a slip of any kind in this marina. Your best bet, unfortunately is probably Pier 32 in national city. Someone also told me this week they accept liveaboards in Mission Bay but I definitely would not want to be in there instead of the bay. From what I understand from having friends in different marinas, some marinas really do track how many days you were there, and others do not. Best of luck!

    Ask your boat insurance company about their boat towing services option. It’s far cheaper and you still get the services of the same boat towing guys that seem to be everywhere. Your insurance company does not operate boats. They just buy bulk privileges and you get to buy it for about $30.

    I've been thinking about doing that, but I live in Michigan and where I live we still get snow and sub zero temperatures, but I was thinking of getting a steel hulled boat and turn it in to my tiny house on water. Most of the boats I've been looking at all have a sewage treatment system on board no need for pump out service?. And they also have water makers 250 gallons of water a day? And I already have a Kegarator that holds 4 different kinds of beer 🍺?. Rarely drink anything stronger than beer?. First off I'm 60 and Disabled and must live on 1000 a month?.

My biggest question, is how big of a pain in the ass is buying groceries? I live in Minnesota, we have similar things on the Mississippi, and the great lakes. While it's true that a condo in San Diego would be much more expensive than the 200k boat, the monthly hoa and maintenance costs would be considerably less. Additionally, real estate appreciates, but boats depreciate over time. Living aboard a boat makes a little more sense in socal where real estate is so expensive, but I can't seem to justify the expense in other parts of the country where a condo may only be 300k. The monthly maintenance and slip costs are so much more than an hoa fee. I would love for this to make sense financially, I just don't see how.

    If you buy a boat like this is it possible to do charters for fishing or just taking people on cruises to help offset some of the costs? I've been watching a lot of TH-cam videos about boats and yachts lately and it's a bit intriguing although it might be a little more than I can handle. Hello I'm in pacific beach, used to live in downtown, saving this year to get my own boat to live on, so do you recommend a cruiser? Or troller, I know absolutely nothing about boats and plan on spending around 40k for one to live on. Any recommendations? And is there any slips where u are that are available? Whats the difference from the slips and the bouey I see? How much do those cost

    • @TheSeaYallLife
      @TheSeaYallLife  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sound like exciting plans! I personally would recommend a trawler because there is generally a lot more space and storage than on a similarly sized cruiser. Trawlers are well-built and you’ll have an easier time finding an older one that hopefully still works well… Look for one built in the 80s. For your price range, you might need to get one that is somewhat of a fixer-upper. Make sure the engines work really well and that the “fixing” part is cosmetic. It is very hard to find liveaboard slips. Try Pier 32 in National City and then get on a waiting list at the places you like best. I’m not sure of the cost of the mooring balls but I would think they would make life a lot more difficult since you have to get on a dinghy every time you need to go somewhere. Best of luck and keep us posted!
