I recommend a company called lastdrop, i have them on my yacht for my 85mm shafts and they work great assuming they are installed correctly. (i first did not). It doesnt have the bellow, it has a stainless steel ring on graphite that is pushed with springs. The hose fittings are on a solid cnc'd graphite block and are metal unlike this unit. Also, can a metal fitting be safely attached to the current system you have? I am also curious why the vessel needed to come out of the water. Could you have had parts handy for a wet quick fix ;)
It's videos like this that really set this channel apart from any others. I love that you show how you two are, for lack of a better term, "Real People" and not just fabricated personalities for the sake of view counts.
Thank you so much! I truly believe that staying real and authentic no matter how successful you are in life is the only way to be truly happy with yourself
@@NautiStyles I kept thinking "surely they're both divas once the camera turns off." But now that I've seen Rico bend himself into a pretzel in the engine room, and Victoria without her concealer, I like you both twice as much. I've learned that if you stop laughing at yourself, it won't be long before you stop loving yourself.
You two invited us into your home. Not as casual guests, but as friends. We are pleased and honered to see you both 'up close and personal.' A great view. A fun view.
I really enjoyed this video. Just a suggestion, but maybe you could throw in some of the things us “land lovers” don’t experience about boat life? How do you refuel? What are some of the rules/customs in port or at sea? Just ideas. We know about not ringing the bell unless it is foggy. Lol. Love the channel!
I just bought 1997 Carver CPMY 40 last February. Never owned a boat before. I live on it here in Santa Barbara. And have been dialing it in and learning every step of the way. I love living on my boat! Love your vids!
I understand hubby dude’s anger down there! You are down there on your knees, then getting up and down, it gets painful on the knees! Plus, it’s a job that once you start, you have to finish.
Boating has it's up and downs, but I having been a boater, believe it is all worth it. You 2 really look as though you honestly get along. It's a natural look. I also like the fact that you don't need to pile on make up, Victoria, like my wife, you have a natural beauty. you 2 make a nice couple.Great video
I lived on a 42 Viking aft cabin in Maine back in the 90's. I have nothing bad to say about the experience. I did 100% of my own maintenance so cost were pretty well contained. It was a great lifestyle. The most common question I got was "What do you do in the winter?" The answer is....I turn the heat on. Retired now and looking for a 40'ish trawler for part time liveaboard.
These types of videos are the best for people like us who have "pie in the sky" dreams about owning a live-aboard yacht. Reality is required to have an honest view of the situation! Thanks!
OUTSTANDING AGAIN GUYS !! I totally love this video content. Fun, informative and just so entertaining. Thank you guys. Behind the scenes of your day to day lives are so much witty fun and knowledgeable. Thanks again for sharing guys.
My uncle had a 32 foot Silvertron, and 42 foot Hatteras back in the late 70s and 80s up to 2000. He was a licensed sea captain in Galveston TX. He stayed away from larger vessels. His motto was "the bigger the boat, the bigger the headache," lol Thanks for showing the realism of Yatch life. So good you all can do a majority of the maintenance. Labor for marine maintenance is no walk in the park. Love your videos. Keep up the great work. BP
You are so lucky RIco can fix all that himself.. It would totally be $$$$ to have someone else fix your boat! Nice Fenders! Thanks so much for sharing the up's and down's of owning/living on a boat.. I wonder if you weren't living on your boat,... things like leaks could really be an issue!
Cheered me up no end,😄 glad i'm not the only one that drops screws everywere, and as for the 6 months you need time to plan these things😆😆 good to see the true side of yatch life, keep it going👍👍
I truly enjoyed the realities of full time living on a boat. Never done the boat thing, but i am looking forward to doing this. I think you guys are just great I learned that its no different than owning a home with its minor repairs, pay someone and get it done properly, enjoy life ( NOW )
What a nice way to look at the reality of owning a boat, thanks for the fender Tex idea, also a good t- shirt idea for you guys “ YOU BOAT YOU LEARN” then have a picture with Rico cussing out some boat project he is working on.
An idea for an info video. Show your watchers how to the mooring can at Catalina. Grabbing the bow wand and running the sand line to the stern. Great stuff guys 👍🏻👍🏻
Love, love, love this video! You guys are amazing, so helpful seeing the how-to's and what you prefer so that the rest of us don't waste time getting what we don't need. I also really loved the Fendertex fenders, can't wait to get some of these for my boat!
Wonderful video. Thank you for using the softer honk sound for swear words and not the dreaded loud, jarring beeeep. You guys are very funny together and a wonderful example of a happy married couple as well as happy live aboard boaters. I also enjoy your accents and small english mistakes. Very endearing. Im hooked now. Thanks, guys
You don't need to remind me every 6 Months :) It's a keeper! I will steal it! The new fenders rox! This was a very nice surprise video allowing us to have a little glimpse in to your daily life. Doing the repairs sucks but when it's finished you can put your feet up on the fly bridge with an ice cold beer! I can't wait for Bering Part II
Watching this video brought back many memories that my late wife and I experienced as boat owners. Most non-boaters really don’t realize that boat ownership involves a lot of work to enjoy the good times. I believe that I have done most of the repairs that Rico performed in this episode. Shaft seals in particular have to be addressed right away. I loved completing needed work and having a cold beer afterwards. Thanks for the memories.
Rico and Victoria you two are my favorite couple. Rico, I could feel your frustration as screws and such dropped into hard to reach places. I was laughing alongside Victoria thinking that God it is not me. Fenders look terrific. I love your asymmetrical hair cut, wish more women wore that in Michigan.
Mine is a 24 foot cabin cruiser and I feel your pain. Your opening comment about work and sweat definitely applies. But I won't change anything! Going over this afternoon to patch a divet in my transom!
I really liked your boat. Marco, a whole character! . And yes, it's the same as in a house, there is everything to do, apart from being a contortionist in a boat! 😂😂😂😂 Greetings to both of you and good winds, Captain V.
This is a wonderful video. Down to earth. You two are fun to watch. I do not own a boat, but I do own an RV and there will always be things to fix. Enjoy yourselves, it’s a great lifestyle.
Greetings NautiStyles Yes those who don't own a boat do not realize that there is more to cruising than just the fun and games. We live in Ontario, Canada and cruise the Great Lakes. But it was a sad day yesterday as our boat was lifted out of the water and put into heated storage for the winter 😫 Will be thinking of you still on your boat and wishing you all the best this winter. Keep Rockin Cheers
Brilliant, honest view from the front line. You both show one essential for living together on a boat, you work together, you share and have a sense of humour. It's one thing having a fault in a house but at least you wont sink. Loved the work when carried out with the boat on the sling. Keep it up, be safe and bring more of your life to us. Thanks, we all love you both.
Bless you for filming anything to do with the heads: Not a glamorous subject, but oh-so-important to sanitary, healthy living. Can't say I enjoyed watching Rico fix the poo-pump, but it was interesting and he deserves handyman medal. You two are so much fun to watch, I guess I'd watch you replace a mattress. Love to Marco, the Zen doggo of the year.
Hi Rico&Victoria! So happy u finally make some video on your boat. I love watching boat life, it makes me feel closer to u to watch your every day life, like I am a part of a crue. If u keep making those kind of videos u can ask people to become a patron.
Fun video! A day in the life of... If you've never dealt with boats then you think you just get on and go. Thanks for the reality check! Have a good one!
That was one of your best videos. I have to say though, I'm a Health and safety instructor here in the UK 🇬🇧. My heart was in my mouth watching Rico under a slung boat with no supports, like what the hell are you doing. Seriously, great video, 👍
That little plastic gizmo for the drip less shaft thing you can probably pick up a brass one at ACE Hardware or NAPA auto parts. Also if you throw in an in-line shutoff valve you can shut the water off if you ever have to replace it again and you won’t have to be hauled out.
Just loved it! Even the Bad was good as someone else was doing it ;) It's winter here in Aus, so we're getting a Bayliner Ciera Cruiser we bought a few months ago serviced and ready for the new season when we'll be going up some Victorian coast (in Australia :). I'm not a Rico's stage, but would like to be with basic servicing... Here's a few suggestions for the future: 1. What is Rico's Toolkit? 2. What is a typical re-stock for you if you go on a trip (1-2w) - interested to know about things we'd probably not think of... How about a vid of you and Rico out for a few days or so? I'm only relatively recent here, so maybe you've already done some of these? Really like your channel and how you "lift the covers" on boat life so one day when we hopefully do it we'll have some nice tips to help us out.
Thanks for sharing these “behind the scenes”. I’m not living on my boat, and sometimes I’m glad about that. I recently had an issue with an exploding battery bank, shortly followed by a failure of the bow thruster, and then issues with the fresh water system. Fortunately everything is solved again, but I can confirm, there is always a list of things to do. The good, the boat, and the ugly 😜. Thanks, and enjoy your day 💙
A long flexible wire with a magnet on the end is great from fishing those pesky screws and bolts/ nuts that love falling into the bottom of the boat or small places that fat fingers cannot get to. Great video. Thanks. Love you guys .
Rico really does fit the definition of “Jack, of all Trades” as he gets it done no matter the job! The peanut gallery owed you a gourmet dinner after being a backseat mechanic when your nose was inches away from the stink. 😂
I can't imagine how much maintenance costs would be without Ricos knowhow, and company contacts. To do most of the fitting yourself, must reduce a huge portion of the costs. Although still not a cheap lifestyle to live. I was a Deckside Seaman so have no clue about the Clanky Marine Engineer world. If I owned a yacht I'd be paying someone else. Then again as disabled, I still would even if I had knowhow. Rico is a walking encyclopedia of Clankyness. No wonder he likes nap time. Lol.
Great video. Did you replace the other shaft seal fitting while you were there? I would. I’d also put that part on a replacement schedule that would prevent most of the failures over time. Haulout is way more expensive than that plastic nipple. Just my 2cents.
I recently bought a 3d printer and I am learning a lot about the different things you can print for plumbing, electrical wire mounting brackets, and a ton of other things. It's like having a parts store with patients though. It's not a quick process to print things. But, if you have a issue in the middle of nowhere. You can print the item you need. Very cool. 🍺✌️
That was a crazy good vid SQ1 & CM... Home port repairs are certainly less costly (understatement) than in the islands any island. People who think boat life is just fun and sun are out of their minds. It's a constant battle with the sea and Mother Nature. One of my greatest cost savings was to ceramic the hull and upper decks even my old fenders. It cut down on washdowns and general cleaning by about 80% year overall. It's just great to see the everyday of everyday living that we all experience no matter the size of one's MY. Oh and the great thing about ceramic coating is that your the shiniest MY in the marina or at anchor.... Have a great weekend!
Yes, the realities of boating life (if you own a boat the maintenance must be scheduled or it gets out of control) but it is a lifestyle, and your home so thanks for sharing.
Kudos to Rico! If I was ever filmed doing some of the projects around my house they would have to be a silent film! 😂. Quick question about the haul out, when they put slings under boat, are ther markings on boat or do they just center them on the hull. Not sure how heavy yours is, but probably could have serious damage if places in wrong locations and lifted out.
The yard workers are trained to do haul outs, they know where to place the straps, damage rarely occurs, maybe a little rub off of the bottom paint, 30 years of boating and never heard of a boat dropped.
You guys are so positive . My first bought I boat 6 years ago and thought this is fun and low cost what could go wrong . You discover how many items are built cheap but always so much aggravation !! I upgraded 3 years ago and all is great 😀praying 🙏
I LOVE this video. So authentic! I would have been swearing long before the poop pump. Also, the outtakes, "This had to come from Florida." is absolutely accurate. Thank you both for showing real boating. ⚓
I used to have an suite at MDR. on Tahiti Way. Absolutely gorgeous place. Your pix of MDR make me nostalgic big time !! Thanks for the memories. BTW I am a catamaran guy.
Victoria, Rico; I've viewed hundreds of vlogs over the past 30 months and without doubt that one was by far the most entertaining. Hope there's no payback from Nick & Tristan & David but you guys have produced a magic engrossing video, I wanted more, more, more. A query or two. You've mentioned several times in vlogs about your "must have" list in the next boat (other than bigger as slave Rico, asked when changing the pump to YOUR head). I think it's time to publish the list as it stands, so far. To save me browsing every video, how big is your current boat and what year? Just watched the 42ft Prestige on Aqualholic and it seemed ideal for you guys. And Rico.....you were the saviour when changing the mattresses.
an how much it would cost if you had to "call a guy" to fix toilet, sink, some electrical stuff? $300 for sink, $1500 for toilet, 200/h for electrical stuff?
Just a helpful hint. Use magnetic screwdriver; no droppy screws in bad places. Really enjoy how you guys show all aspects of boat life to this landlubber in Canada.
Why On Earth Isnt that Bilge Pump Hose Connector METAL??? al that For a one inch Platic Nipple Connection Crazy!!!! I also Being from Motorsport and motor industry Would be looking At a Better Connection Or A Braided Hose Like Aeroquip??
Watching Rico work in the engine room makes me feel so much better about the hours I spent in my engine room except it wasn't Florida at 90° f. Sweat running over my eyes blinding me working in a sauna getting frustrated like recall what parts don't fit. So much fun would never want to miss it.
Hi Victoria &Rico, great vidio of your boat, on boats and ships there are always repairs and improvements. The best thing after successful work is the ice cold beer after work. ⚓👍🛥🍻
*WHEN A MAN IS FIXING SOMETHING ...* GIRLFRIEND: _"Do you need help with something?"_ ME: _"Nope! I'm perfectly capable of breaking shit and getting pissed off all on my own. But thanks."_
Son unos genios!, verdaderamente los quiero. Porqué? Porque justamente son muy desestructorados y divertidos. Los seguiré viendo. Saludos para uds. y especialmente a Marco, un dulce! Y gran actor.🥰🥰🥰🥰✌
I’ve always wanted to ask, I’m sure I’ve missed it, but where are you from originally? I lived in Germany for 13 years and I love listening to accents. Love your videos! My fave so far was w Tim Alls! What a yacht! Have I missed a Nordhavn 76? Thank you!
Hope you have some laughs with us and about us! 😜😂 Let us know what else you would like to see in the "Realities of Yachlife" series
Love videos like this well not your yacht breaking but your day life !! Great video ! Thanks for sharing !!!!
Best video thus far :-)
part 2 of the BERING?
And….. and on top of all that….. pulls off vertically striped pants.
I recommend a company called lastdrop, i have them on my yacht for my 85mm shafts and they work great assuming they are installed correctly. (i first did not). So, there goes the glamour of it all. LOL I wouldn't do the 'yacht life' without a crew. But, it sure is fun to watch you guys.
Then you add unnecessary cost
Loved that you added this video sprinkled in with the yacht tours ones. always great to see the realities and you still love the boating life.
The broken nipple is a common off the shelf part, and could have been replaced with a brass one. I'd have done it while in the water.
Being a mechanic who plans to live on a boat full time. I would enjoy more videos like this. Is that some of Ricos' dj skills during the video?
This is a wonderful video. Down to earth. You two are fun to watch. I do not own a boat, but I do own an RV and there will always be things to fix. Enjoy yourselves, it’s a great lifestyle.

Good on you being a custodian of a big boat is great way to move up the career ladder
Great channel. Really looking forward to Bering part 2!

It's really nice seeing a day in the life of you two, on your own boat! You are very capable seamen, thanx for sharing!

Fantastic video people. Nice to see you on you're own turf so to speak.

Thanks for watching
So, Rico said something about looking forward to a bigger boat, more room, easier to work on ... Is a new boat in the future?

Rico really does fit the definition of “Jack, of all Trades” as he gets it done no matter the job! The peanut gallery owed you a gourmet dinner after being a backseat mechanic when your nose was inches away from the stink. 😂
Thanks!
Thank you so much for the extra Love Dale!
Lol.
The rule of thumb is that if you don't do your own labor, you can expect to pay 3-4 times what a DIY maintenance job would be.
You guys are too funny and thanks for the great hints on the pros and cons of living on the water.
Very cool. 🍺✌️
This was very interesting. It is a good reality check for anyone romanticizing living on a boat. Just like a house, there’s always something to fix.
And unlike a house your floating home might sink if your not careful…
Yes, I'm deep clean (galley not my body) so this is most welcome 😋
Yes, the realities of boating life (if you own a boat the maintenance must be scheduled or it gets out of control) but it is a lifestyle, and your home so thanks for sharing.
Kudos to Rico! If I was ever filmed doing some of the projects around my house they would have to be a silent film! 😂. Quick question about the haul out, when they put slings under boat, are ther markings on boat or do they just center them on the hull. Not sure how heavy yours is, but probably could have serious damage if places in wrong locations and lifted out.
And I wonder what that cost to pull it out
That would be my hubby too! He hates plumbing anyway!! Hahaha!
The yard workers are trained to do haul outs, they know where to place the straps, damage rarely occurs, maybe a little rub off of the bottom paint, 30 years of boating and never heard of a boat dropped.
That is a pretty good question ,there is probly a max space between straps and distance from the bow and Stern
@@lorenenoe4472 yes they do know how to do there job and thats why they get the big bucks for that job.
You guys are so positive . My first bought I boat 6 years ago and thought this is fun and low cost what could go wrong . You discover how many items are built cheap but always so much aggravation !! I upgraded 3 years ago and all is great 😀praying 🙏
The new fenders can be also be used as hot water bottles
I LOVE this video. So authentic! I would have been swearing long before the poop pump. Also, the outtakes, "This had to come from Florida." is absolutely accurate. Thank you both for showing real boating. ⚓
OMG almost 150k subs, nice!
I used to have an suite at MDR. on Tahiti Way. Absolutely gorgeous place. Your pix of MDR make me nostalgic big time !! Thanks for the memories. BTW I am a catamaran guy.
How much I like this woman 😳😳😳😳 She has incredible charm 😎😎😎
They make those in stainless steel , threaded ribbed hose connector.
I would use bronze instead. Bromze is anti-microbial, which is a real benefit when in salt water.
Hi Victoria &Rico, great vidio of your boat, on boats and ships there are always repairs and improvements. The best thing after successful work is the ice cold beer after work. ⚓👍🛥🍻
*WHEN A MAN IS FIXING SOMETHING ...*
GIRLFRIEND: _"Do you need help with something?"_
ME: _"Nope! I'm perfectly capable of breaking shit and getting pissed off all on my own. But thanks."_
😝😂😂😂😂🙌🏻
My wife is a plumber's daughter, so when I'm wrenching something, she actually can help. Never got to, though (((((-!
Thank you!
A Nordhavn would be a great addition to the channel.
Up here in Canada the difference between a yacht and a super yacht is making our canoe longer. True story🙄. Great video😎👍🏹🇨🇦
