Stuff like this is a shining example of why education edition just makes sense. Imagine having a class go though this excavation as a lesson! Great video.
I might look into it if I try and do something like this again, however, I do enjoy trying to do my reproductions within the bounds of the normal game and sometimes compromises have to be made. That said, I appreciate you letting me know about the Chisel mod, I have never used that one before.
@@Haraldr_Halfdan By all means, play the way you enjoy the most (I just thought to suggest this, since you made mention of the 1m layers). In fact, i think its more admirable that you play and showcase this in the vanilla game mode. It helps bridge that gap for some people ^_^
Yeah, I did a bit of that but not with the pottery. I kept that the original minecraft name and then just aligned different sherd types to the different periods.
Love your content man, very inspiring to see stuff like this as an archeology student! I'm gonna try to do this for my own recent excavation. What's your favorite archeological period?
Best of luck! That sounds awesome! Where was your latest excavation (please don't give exact details...we don't want looters :)). Favorite period, I like the Romans and the Celts and then Medieval Irish.
@@Haraldr_Halfdan I'm a first year in the Netherlands! We had a wonderful first excavation on some farmland. Lots of features, pottery, and two cow skeletons. Mostly Iron Age and Roman. Great choices for your favorites!
This is what I hope university courses will be like one day. I have learned a lot more than from my ordinary lectures. This is much more fun, entertaining, and insightful and combines otherwise rather hard to grasp topic for me with a more simplistic game I adore, getting the best of both worlds and using the strengths of both environments to teach something actually much more exciting than at first perceived or judged so.
Wow!! Hi praise and I am so happy to hear that you are learning a lot and enjoying the videos! Glad you thought my discussion of the archaeological concepts and vocab was clear!
Couldn't be happier about how you portrayed an excavation, still never getting tired of your content.
Thanks! I am glad you liked it. To be honest I was struggling with how to represent it and so I am glad you thought it came out well! Thanks!

Thanks! Happy you liked it! That is pretty high praise thinking this could be used in a lesson plan. That would be pretty cool :).
I'd get the "Chisel mod" to help with your "verticality issue".
This mod can allow as deep as 1 pixel of a block, per "harvest" action

Always found archeology so fascinating. The thought of uncovering a link to the past is so cool
That's great! I am glad you liked the episode!!
This looks like it must have been a lot of fun to set up and I was fascinated by the reveal of each layer! I didn't expect to get so invested 😆
Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, it was something I had been thinking of doing for over a year.
I love how you can tell that both Minecraft and archeology passion you deeply. Loved your trail ruins video, and loved this one as well.
Thanks! I am so glad you liked both of those videos and I appreciate you dropping me a comment letting me know!
I think this is one of your best videos so far, i can tell you put a lot of time into it making it work.
ps, with name tags and a anvil you can name items (artifacts)
Glad you think so! Yeah, this one was a challenge to figure out how to build and then work through how to film as I removed layers.

Just woke up and this, this is what I needed
Thanks! Glad it brightened your day. Thank for leaving me a comment and letting me know. It brightened mine :).

I love how people can be excited by two cow skeletons, it's just such a human thing
@@csapka That is totally exciting on a dig!
@@csapka haha thank you! I'm planning to specialize in animal bones so it was a very exciting find for me!

This was wonderfully informative! I loved it, thanks so much for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm not an archaeologist, but I know how Relative Dating works. (I strongly advise against it)
Ha! Yeah, I was only referring to relative dating in comparison to absolute dating ;)
Great video!
Thanks! That was a fun one to try and map out how to do it. Glad you enjoyed it!
