I too have a royal ruby collection. My aunt gifted my parents a starter set when they married in 1949. They stayed in the attic for40 years because they were "fancy". I rescued them and expanded the collection. I love to use them especially at Christmas.
Adrian Moran I too am an avid collector of Anchor Hocking Glass Corporation's line of Royal Ruby glass. The piece that you believe to be an ashtray (a common assumption) due to the two slots is actually a spoon rest. They did make ashtrays but they are a rather common square shapet that tapers on all 4 sides to the base and has 4 slots -one on each corner. Just thought you might like to know. You have a beautiful collection that rivals my own. You do have a few pieces i was unaware of and don't have. Ill have to rectify that! Thanks for sharing!!

Great collection. I purchased the ruby red punch bowl with stand and 12 cups at a thrift store for $8 a couple days ago and just love it.. so here to learn more about it. I also love the Avon ruby red collection as well so purchased a set of the napkin rings off eBay. Very pretty color. I do wish manufacturers would put labels on the bottom of their products. Very unsightly.
These are my favorite of all the dishes I inherited from my grandmother. We always had ice cream in the small square bowls, and I am sure the color made it taste even better ;) Thank you for telling me more about them.
My kitchen is full of ruby glass bowls in hutch cups in shelf and garage 2 full boxes put away. Ball pitchers and very large pitcher. I love collection ruby glass plates were very hard to find in good shape. Serving bowls are my favorite items to collect. And various cups colle tons love the leaves candy dishes etc

I have my grandmother's ruby red dishes that I've added to over the years! She had it stored in her fruit seller and hadn't used it in years so I believe there were around a hundred pieces most precious I guess or the dinner plates! I've added to her set because I found at auction Maybe tumblers water glasses Etc and quite a few vases. Thank you so much for taking the time to film your collection I appreciate it so much. I looked up on eBay these dishes and was surprised at some of the prices and I didn't see any dinner plates or serving dishes listed interesting
I have a set of the combination footed goblets and I'm in Adelaide South Australia. I also have a combination pitcher.... I wonder if it's the same manufacturer....yes, I have a number of other red and combined drinking vessels.... I love the Ruby red glass x

I haven't done Thanksgiving from my family and quite a few years but for years I set my table with my grandmother's dishes and I hand washed all of them because if you put them in the dishwasher they will get scratches on them
Adrian your marmalade is actually a handled sugar with a ruby marmalade lid. Anchor Hocking never sold the handled sugar with a ruby lid. The Ruby lid only came on the handle less marmalade with an available Ruby under plate.
I have 3 identical looking marmalade lids that were purchased on 3 different dishes. With vintage pieces, they may have been switched up over the years, so I wouldn't be surprised to find them mismatched. I'll look through my books and see if I have the right pieces to assemble it as originally intended.
@@AdrianMoran I know just what you mean. Gene Florence consistently shows the prescut pineapple sugar bowl with an early American prescut lid in his books. The Ruby lid used with the Press cut pineapple handle-less marmalade actually started out in the AR 1700 line. Almost all Anchor Hocking Sugar Bowl Lids will interchange because while the molds for the sugar bowls were different, the mold carriers used in manufacturing were the same so the molds were the same dimension. This does lead to a lot of confusion. However truth be told Anchor Hocking did not sell a handle-less prescut pineapple Sugar Bowl or a handled Prescott pineapple marmalade. As a side note when Anchor Hocking ceased manufacturing Royal Ruby in I think 1965 for the remainder of the press cut pineapple production through about 1967 they used a regular production prescut pineapple Sugar Bowl lid in Crystal for the marmalade and hand cut or ground out the notch for the spoon! I also think you have one of the best Royal Ruby collections I have seen,, congratulations.

They were definitely made before dishwashers were commonplace. They wouldn't have been designed with that in mind. That said, I do put some of the simpler plates and cups in the dishwasher.
I wouldn't put them in the dishwasher! Due to the harsher chemicals and abrasives in dishwasher detergent, it will eventually break down the surface, a type of "etching" which will cause permanent embedding of contaminants into the micro abrasions of the surface of the glass. This will make the glass appear "cloudy" or "milky" often accompanied with a slight iridescence. The damage is not reversible. This is true with all glass, even modern glass. This condition is not the same as so-called "glass disease". I can always tell by looking at someone's glassware or in thrift shops, yard sales and the like, no matter what form it's in (tumbler, cups, plates, bake ware, etc) if it's had a life of hand washing or a life of dishwasher hell.
I find the ruby red color nice but it seems to take away from the style of the piece!! I don't own any blue or ruby red pieces.....both colors don't really float my boat at all.
My Avon dishes are beautiful,How could I send you a picture of my dishes, if I’m not mistaken they are a full set candle holders chocolate mugs, when I say the whole set, it’s everything they made. If I could send you a picture, you could see how beautiful they really are.

I went thrifting today and ran into this beautiful ruby red bowl. I had to snag it even though I collect pink.
My mom and I have a gorgeous parfait glass set of 10 that we inherited for my great-grandmother. We arent sure where to take it and possibly sell

I have a collection of Ruby Red Avon dishes, they all are numbered and say Avon on the bottom.
Avon did a whole line called the Cape Cod Collection. It has a very distinctive look reminiscent of old sandwich glass.
I have several pieces of this as well as some pink depression glasswares too, my grandmother had them and I inherited them!

I would say collect what you love. If you enjoy looking at them and having them - go for it!
