Aquascape Tutorial: Super Simple Low Budget Nano Tank - This Could Be Your First Aquascape!!

  • In this Aquascape Tutorial we are going to set up a very simple Iwagumi Aquascape! With some DIY CO2, old substrate and plants from a previous scape, this planted nano tank is quite low budget as well!

    Nice scape MJ. Really liked the idea of substrate supports. I think a small school of rummynose tetras would look good since they all swim together and their red noses would look very good against the rocks and the carpet.

    I need to give co2 a try! Really impressed with how quickly that carpet fills in! I spent 8 months to get not even half that with Monte Carlo no co2

    Thank you for the tips. I’ve been scratching my head recently with what to do with a 6.7g bookshelf nano for my friend. 23.6”L x 9.5”H x 6.7” deep Aquatop. It MUST have a lid due to his Betta which is a jumper. So no decorations can come out of the water. It’s so narrow that it’s been troubling me with how to create any sort of depth. Now I’m thinking of either breaking down the spider wood piece I bought and redesigning it to fit better with some epoxy or just getting rid of it all together and doing a design similar to this. That driftwood has been the one piece that has limited me on what to do. Again, thank you for the tips. I love your videos.

    Rasboras would be my choice as well. Maybe Microrasbora Erythromicron ! Hope it grows as good as the rest of your scapes 👍🏼

    Iwagumi, simple enough in concept. But easily takes a lifetime to master. Fish in that small of a tank is away's tricky I think.

      A true Iwagumi is beautiful, but indeed so difficult to make. This one is a joke 😅 Yeah I might just stick with the cherry shrimp and nothing else.

    One small criticism is that the soeishi stone should be to the left of the oyaishi stone (main stone) in order to accentuate it and make the oyaishi stone the focal point and main attraction. But overall nice aquascape! I like celestial pearl danio

    Really nice, I would suggest Norman Lampeye Killifish, they’re small fishes really awesome in an iwagumi scape

      @@MJAquascaping Killifishes are great jumpers. With an open tank they will dry on the floor pretty quickly.

    Ember tetras, White Cloud Mountain minnows or rummynose tetras would go great with the cherrys. Keep up the good work with the channel

    Are you adding dechlorinated water to the tank or just tap water first and later chemicals to neutralise the chlorine?

      @@zefilla4306 not necessarily as i have tested them on aqua soil and my ones seem to just fine. As long as the granules are soft and lighter than other types it should be ok

    What are your thoughts on using a gravel cap to go on top of the aquasoil as an option? How thick would you do the cap?

      If it's fresh aquasoil there's no need to cap it. If it's used I probably would cap it. Not too thick though like 1 to 2cm max

      Bonjour! Cela fait partie du système CO2. J'injecte du gaz CO2 dans tous mes réservoirs plantés, car c'est un nutriment très important pour les plantes.

    Hoe vaak waterwissel dan?
    Zat zelf te denken aan een darkstart

      Dennerle soil geeft veel minder voedingstoffen af dan bijvoorbeeld ADA of Tropica. Ik raad aan om in de eerste week 3 waterwissels te doen van 50% in de tweede week 2x 50% en daarna gewoon 1x per week. Darkstart kan natuurlijk, maar ik heb er geen geduld voor. 😬

      I’m using the dennerle scapers flow, normally this is a hob filter, but I’ve extended the tubes so it can sit below the tank.

      I used 50% old substrate which has a ton of beneficial bacteria + I used a cycled filter

    Gouden tip voor wat betreft die "substrate supports". Het is nooit in me opgekomen om daar plastic bekers voor te gebruiken.
