    Either Dean speed no baffle, or the gutted factory exhaust. Man, those sound nice. I think I just love Indian Chiefs

      Thanks! I ended up porting out the baffles with a stepper drill which gave me a sound somewhere in between the two options. Now if only this cold weather would break I could go ride it!

      @@paden501 Hell yeah. You should do a quick video comparing those three, so we can all enjoy the glorious sounds of the Chief's exhaust. Also, I hear you on the cold weather. I prefer it over the summer, but at least during the summer I can go outside without freezing my nuts off lol.

    I am genuinely impressed and very happy with how after market pipes sound on the new chief, I was at first reserved about how they would sound because with all the electrical tech stuffed into it I would have thought it would have sounded just ok as well as efficient, all the pipes set ups are great with the deep thump it roars out but I’m curious? Can you adjust the timings on the thumps from the fire exhaust sequence so you can hear more of a burble sound instead of a thump thump thump and more of a thumpity thump, do you know what I mean when I ask this question? It’s ok if not.

    Have a 2013 victory highball and they are very similar, so maybe have to get the Chieftain instead for a different flavor.
    But Chief sounds good like the slip ok stage 2 cams

      I feel like that's the major difference in sound between the Indian Thunderstroke engine and the HD Milwaukee 8. The HD has more of the traditional "potato-potato" cadence, where the Indian has more of an even "Thump-thump-thump" (at least until you add cams) But the Indians seem to bring more bass to the party.

    • @paden501
      @paden501  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I chopped the back off of the muffler with a chop saw (using a 12" metal cutting wheel) and then pulled the fiberglass stuffing and the baffle plate out from the back. That leaves you with an empty pipe.

    • @paden501
      @paden501  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're just talking changing slip-ons, most people could do the work themselves. It required a metric socket set, a ratchet and an extension. There was a total of 2 bolts and 2 clamps to loosen to get the factory cans off.

  • @Curious_Skeptic

    Indian put a Japanese style exhaust on an American beast! I never understood the mindset of Indian/Polaris knowing that Harley's key selling feature is the deeeeep exhaust and rumble of a roadking or such! At least I'm happy to know there is an option to beef up the Chief! Thanks for the video. Love the Dean! Sounds great! Too bad Indian doesn't just go with better exhaust to start with. They might sell more bikes, LOL. Keep those slip-ons! Just too cheesy sounding without them! You go from awesome to WTF is wrong with that bike. ;)

    Was the Indian Stage 1 sound with the baffles in? How is it compared to dean-speed?

    • @paden501
      @paden501  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the video, the stage 1 pipes have the baffles removed. The baffles in the stage 1 pipes really make them sound pretty stuffy IMO. Much more-so than the Dean speed baffles.
      With the baffles out of both, the Dean speeds sound a little "lower" and the Indian Stage 1s slightly "louder". The difference is very minor though, and it's very difficult to compare considering that my red bike with the Dean speeds is a basically stock 111 in the video and the green bike is a 116 with the stage 2 cams, injectors and throttle body, as well as the stage 1 forward intake (that bike is a beast).
      After the video, I added the Stage 1 intake (high flow) to the red bike, and it actually added a bit more volume to the Dean Speed exhaust also. (FWIW, the Stage 1 intake and ECU tune really helped the 111 in a lot of ways, especially in reducing the sometimes lazy throttle response of the stock bike, and I highly recommend it)

    • @korewest
      @korewest 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@paden501 That's good to know, sorry missed the text about the baffles being removed. I do love the idle sound of the dean-speed baffles out, but it seems a tad too loud for my taste on acceleration in my opinion. I have the Stage 1 Indians on order, will have to see how it is in person and decide :)
      Was the Stage1 baffle drilled out? Or is there a way to remove it easily

    • @paden501
      @paden501  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@korewest The baffle on the Indian stage 1 can be removed by taking the tips off the back, and then either drilling or unscrewing the 3 security screws that hold the baffle into the back of the pipe. They're not easy to take out (hence security screws) so you may have to drill them.
      Regarding the Dean Speeds. I agree that without the baffle they're a little loud. What I ended up doing was drilling a 5/8" hole thru the front of the baffle and then reinstalling them in the Dean Speed pipes (they're just held on by 8mm cap screw). That sort of hit the best "middle ground" between baffle in and out IMO. Unfortunately, I haven't done another video comparing them yet.

    • @dashdanebikes2758
      @dashdanebikes2758 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my opinion , they don't. I ordered a chief bobber dark horse and was super excited for it till I rode a Harley Softail. The sound, the feel, and the nostalgia isn't there to be found on an Indian bike yet. Yes they offer better technology, and may be handling but the rugged core biking experience is what you buy a Harley for. Ps every Indian bike owner including myself wanted my bike to sound like a Harley lol, they why not just get one..so I did haha
