Air cooled vs liquid cooled doesn’t really have much to do with torque output. It’s about the piston geometry. The scout is running a fatter piston with a shorter stroke which allows for more RPM’s and horsepower, the chief is running a narrower piston with a longer stroke. Creating more low rpm torque but with limited rpm ceiling.
One being air cooled and the other liquid are just necessities based around those motor geometries, higher rpm motors need more cooling because they produce more heat. Low rpm, long stroke motors can get by with air cooling

@@cowmath77 That is true. But my point is that air cooled versus liquid cooled is correlation, not causation to power output.
Did you actually read my comment?

    • @toofastnobrakes
      @toofastnobrakes ปีที่แล้ว +8

@@cowmath77 But here’s the problem. It’s about educating people on a misconception. The cooling mechanism is not what “makes“ the Power. It is a byproduct of how the power is being made. You can in theory make a short stroke High compression motor that will rev to 17,000 RPM. That is air cooled. And that motor will make the same amount of power as the liquid cooled version. The only real difference being the air cooled one is going to overheat causing plenty of damage to itself. Making it a very unreliable platform. The purpose of my comment was to point out the actual causation of the Power. which is what the vast majority of people get wrong. I 100% agree that it’s a chicken egg situation. Because a reliable high revving motor. Typically won’t be built without liquid cooling. But that’s not the point. The point is to educate people who don’t understand how it actually works.

Seeing this video makes me more excited to get my chief. It's the exact model I ordered. I got rid of my scout bobber 60 a few months ago. I'm hoping I'll get my new chief in the next month or two. It's insane people waiting five to six months for their orders. It was a great video keep up the good content my Boricua brother!

Passenger seat, pegs, mini ape handlebars, dean speed slip-ons, sissy bar, crash bars, handlebar bag, and high flow intake. Some of the parts are in my garage. It's just waiting to be put on. Great comparison Ricky. Just a thought….I bit the bullet and ordered the McCruise electronic cruise control for my Scout Bobber and it was a game changer. As far as mods, it’s right up there with the Corbin seat. On the highway and on trips the cruise control has been flawless and has really made those rides a breeze.

I don’t even have to think about mounting a phone on my Indian chief thanks to the Ride Command which I think is very valuable. Don’t have to worry about a radiator, hoses, pump, or coolant changes. Better for me because I like to do long rides so I slapped a fat wind screen on it and some bags and I can go riding all day on a Corbin seat and I am happy loving it enjoying it. Think I want to ride to Alaska from Southern California on my Chief.

Those are really good points! Thanks for sharing that info with us! That sounds like a hell of a trip! The PCH is high on my bucket list rides. Are you riding there and back? I’ve heard riding it from N to S is the way to go because you’re always on the side of the road by the ocean.

@@RickyNotSoMartin I heard the same thing so I was thinking taking an inland trip north and then the ocean view back south because I wanna be able to see more while I’m on the trip anyway, I’d rather see different scenery both ways.
On another note Stage two is illegal in California so I took a road trip to Las Vegas about 300 miles from where I am on my chief and it was super fun! Now I’m one of the very few stage twos out here and that combined with a dean speed exhaust my bike sounds bad ass! I’ve spent almost 9K decking out my Chief and love it! Anytime I have a nice weekend I will spend a Saturday or Sunday riding a few hundred miles round-trip and I’ve really gotten to know the geography of Southern California. It’s been a blast owning the bike so far . The scout is a great bike but I don’t think it would fit what I used this hobby for, hopefully my comment helps someone decide. Your original chief review helped sway me in Chief direction so thank you Ricky!

Since Polaris picked up the Indian brand, I'm very curious as to how this 116 stacks up to the Freedom 106 in the later years of the Victory lineup. All the internet chatter I've seen says the 106 is better, but I haven't seen anyone do an actual side by side comparison. The race outcomes in your video don't really surprise me though as the Scout bobber is very similar to the 2017 Victory Octane. My brother had an Octane a few years ago, and we both came to the conclusion that the Octane was quicker than my Highball. The 100lbs weight difference in sure hugely factors into that. Great comparison of the two Indians, lots of us were curious as to how they compare in a heads up situation. Cheers!🍻😎

Don't enjoy the mad amounts of wind you get in the chest but like i said, it's not that kind of bike. I would take it over anything else though for what I like to do: whip around town, commute, and can still hang with the big boys on bike night.

I'm surprised but I guess I shouldn't be. I have a Bobber 60 that is pretty much stock and I've run quite a few HDs with none beating me so far. The biggest I've run is a 107 that was allegedly a Stage 3 (some kind of glide?) with about a 20 mph rolling start. When he honked the horn, I was shocked by how far and how fast he fell back in my mirrors. He laughed afterwards and said he couldn't believe my rear tire was breaking loose as I shifted into 2nd and walked away from him on my "little Indian". Can't wait to run a 114 or 130, even if I do lose 🙂. Also, great video...the editing and quality are top notch! Long enough to enjoy and you get to the point, but not so long that people start to lose interest!

Payed € 17000,- for my Scout Bobber. The Chief is way more expensive so its not an option. Although my Scout does come with heated grips, cruise control and a Vance exhaust. I do love the looks of the Chief and would love to have that digital cluster, 17k was already above my budget☺️

I expected the dragrace to turn out like this already due to power to weight ratio. Engine torque at low RPMs can be a thing when going from stand still but isn´t really a thing as soon as the vehicle moves. It is more a thing of how broad the power band of the engine is. It also doesn´t quite matter where in the RPM range the power is, as long as the gear ratios and final drive ratio match the characteristics of the engine. At least as long as one is looking at performance only. Ones personal preferences of course are a thing too for deciding what bike to buy.

What i like about the Scout and the hd softails it's that you don't have the exhaust line and the belt drive both on the same side, letting the other side a little bit unbalanced, "hollow"… same problem with old Sportsters evo, but that's just my take on design, so i like more the general aesthetics of the scout

    Great video!
I've had my Matt black std Scout from new in 2017 and I did consider the new Chief.
But I think it'd be a 'side-grade' rather than an up-grade; I think I'd love it just as much but for different reasons.
I'm 6'2" so a little more legroom would be useful, but I've never had problems with the standard Scout.
Above all, I think I'd miss the mid-top end rush that you can only get with that liquid-cooled Scout engine. I love hunting down sportsbikes too much!
I'm not so much of a gadget fan when it comes to bikes. On a car, I'll use Google Maps on my phone in preference to the latest inbuilt sat-nav, and mounting my phone on the bike for the few trips when I need sat-nav is no Biggie; I enjoy the old-skool approach of heading for the next town by following signs; more attention on the scenery.
Cruise control would be good, though; would love to see that on the Scout.
Above all, I wouldn't swap my std Scout's full-travel.suspension for the bine-shaking 2" on the Bobber - which is why I never bought one when they came out.
Looks like I'll be keeping that '17 Scout for a while longer, then 😎
Thanks again for a great video 👍

I’m 6’0 so I think the bobber would be rough on my back. But I love the look of the bobber so much. What’s considered a long trip? I live in a small town about a hour from Reno. So I would love to do rides to Reno. Is a hour or two long?

The tank size and comfort of the Chief Dark Horse is a winner for me. I'd love to own a Scout, but I think I'd love the Chief Dark Horse more.
