He probably wouldn't admit it, but Joe knew he wouldn't be able to live with himself if he killed one of his only remaining friends. Dude cried and started drinking because he thought he got Marty killed. There's no way Joe would've been okay after killing Vito had he done it, and he knew it.
This little speech didn't make sense to me. It's something someone would say to a person they had a personal vendetta against, but we barely even interacted with Carlo and we just turned him because Vito fucked up not putting his foot down to turn down Henry's offer. I don't understand why we had this big moment like this. This didn't feel like a climax at all.
I’m 3 years late to this comment thread. I think that if Joe is still alive, that he’s still in business. I got rid of my Xbox before I beat mafia 3. I didn’t know Leo was in it, I only knew about Vito. Joe and Vito killed Tommy from the first game. Vito worked alongside Lincoln in the third. Joe was probably hidden for some time with connections. My guess is that Joe is still alive (at that point in time). As much as I love these characters, I don’t want a sequel. They were great characters in their prime. I’d like to remember than that way.

Man what a mission, I adore it's setting, the miserable rain, the really cool ass exhibition you fight Carlo in, and man the absolute punch to the gut this game pulls on you at the last second right before it ends, people might always remember Mafia with Tommy dyin at the end, but I'll forever remember how pissed and cheated I felt seeing Leo send Joe off to be killed, and man that was an ending, the theme kicking in sinister as you realise what is happening, I have also loved revisiting this with you Willzyyy and I do look forward to Mafia Remake thanks a bunch man
That's the exact same outfit I ALWAYS wear for the Final Chapter Of Mafia 2 as Well as it does seem to be the most appropriate and really does fit the overall tone, just like I always wear the Black Tailored Suit when Vito gets Made into the Falcone Family at the end of Chapter 9
@@thetrxppiniqqa that's what Vito thinks. He was told by his friends he had back at empire bay, they could have told him false information because leo told him to. Also the devs confirmed joe is alive, and he is Leo's driver in one of Mafia III's ending cutscenes.

Vito was not killed because Leo spoke up for him. Joe was a hothead. He was the one that fired the first bullets at the Chinese, starting a war. That war cost a lot, and Joe was going to be executed for his part. He escaped and went to Chicago where he was killed. The Mafia Doesn't Forgive or Forget. They found Tommy Angelo after 11 years hunting him. They would have done the same to Joe.

I’ve said it before, this was one of my all-time favs in story- driven games. I was so glad it and Mafia 1 are being released for the current generation of gamers. These two games offer great story-based game play ... plus some great game music and great retro tunes played on the car radio ... that is missing from the current generation of run-and-guns dominating the game industry.
Storyline aside... When you play mafia games you feel that the player don't get nothing at the end , he just lose his best friends or family members and become a bad person but the thing that makes mafia stories great is how all characters do anything for their real families even betraying their own mafia families
In the original mafia Vito looks more angry than the remaster but still in the remaster Vito face in the ending looks better... damn, he look like he one second from shooting on Leo's head
I wouldn't call this a masterpiece. Combat is sometimes frustrating, the story had nearly no central plot, and it's ending is just suddenly abrupt and sudden. There was no build up in this game, you just kept floating from one job to the next with the stakes being vague as hell or you were just on a vengeance path. And a lot of shit is just vomited all over you at the end while also not explaining anything, especially with Vito's dad.
This chapter is so tense...all the others you always had a feeling someone was helping Vito,but this one he was completely alone going on a suicide mission.And when Carlo is dead and everything is fine,you find out you sentencend your best friends life in exchange for keeping yours.

I never understood why they only added the "Theres no heaven for gangsters" on the spanish subs but not on the rest of the languages, it really hit hard when the screen faded to the sky after Joe was being taken to his fate
2021, this ending is still the best ending of all time to me, no other game could ever beat it for me, it's so melancholic and sad, it's so special and to This day i wanna know what really happened to joe

I find it funny that no one ever brings up derek and Steve's deaths. Wasn't derek a capo in vinci's organization? Did they really never find out that vito killed them both?
Steve can’t join the mafia because he is Dutch-Irish and the Mafia doesn’t take in anyone who isn’t of Italian or Sicilian decent. And Leo did mention that half of their guys were dead so it is implied that he knew about their deaths but since the dock workers never mentioned vito they probably don’t know

Don't forget that the mafia shouldn't be always be italian such as : the Irish mafia the polish mafia the russian mafia however i think the series should focus on italian mob
The dock workers covered for Vito and claimed to the police that they killed Derek in self-defense. Which of course means that Don Vinci probably had them all killed later

But nothing is explained at all. I get Joe being taken somewhere else isn't bad but like barely anything had any connection with this game. No big plot or climax, the final fight doesn't even feel like anything special. I was completely surprised the game ended there, it felt like barely anything had happened, just a bunch of killing. Maybe if they showed the whole war thing they were talking about and actually had the Feds involved it would've felt more urgent to me but this was just so...flat.

18:05 Vito's eyes not going down and up for a split second in the _Definitive_ edition ruins the moment a bit imo. People mostly point to the scene where Leo's eyes bug out (rightfully though), but I think this should also get a mention.
For the last 10 years all I've done was kill. I killed for my country, I've killed for my family, I killed anyone that got in my way, but this one... this one's for me.
One thing I noticed is how each of the Mafia protagonists' gunplay reflect them. Tommy was just a cabbie driver, he has slow reload, wonky aiming, and only knows how to shoot a gun after years. Vito is a WW2 veteran. He already knows how to use a gun but he's more of a rifleman, a regular grunt, than a special force so he has decent aim and reload speed. Lincoln is a special force back in Vietnam who worked with John. He's adept in guerilla warfare, interrogation, gunplay, and a one man army. He has faster reloads (even without the upgrade), more weapons to use, and better aiming even at the beginning.
I noticed that in the original, his eyes shift back and forth when Leo tells him Joe wasn’t apart of the deal, but in the remake, he scrunches his eyebrows.

So now are you going to play the other stories? Joe's story and Tommy I think? When I played Mafia 2 I started with that story with the bald guy but I guess Joe's story is more interesting and it's a story it has cutscenes unlike the other one.
