7:23 when vito walks up and says his actual last name after he's been hiding for years with help from the feds he knew exactly what was going to happen. He turns around like badass, looks vito and Joe in the eyes without any fear on his face and confirms his identity. He had to be on the run for years, had to be tired of living in fear for not only himself but his family. So he looks them straight in their eyes and took the shotgun round to the stomach. He knew at this point they only wanted him, and that his family was going go be left alone, thats all that mattered to him. Live by sword die by sword.
This is much more sad than the original. Once Vito said Tommy's real name Tommy knew and was ready for his fate. Tommy wasn't even surprised and accepted his fate. Honestly Tommy could have lied but he didn't. By him accepting his fate Tommy knew his family will forever be safe and no more running and no more hiding. To Tommy the only thing he loves and cares about is his family and also Tommy didn't die alone and he died happily knowing his family is finally at peace
Tommy had also completed his life goals and was willing to go. He got to watch his daughter graduate and walk her down the aisle. There wasn't much left for him to do except die. Sad he never saw what became of his son though
Tommy was in witness protection with a new name and identity. As soon as he hears his real name he knows that he's toast so he decides to let himself be killed to save his loved ones.

I think Tommy would've helped Ralphie get a lighter sentence by saying he was forced to and didn't know better. Also felt bad for Vinny as he was a cool character. Thouggh he did probably committ alot of murders.
I love how in the beginning Norman tells Tommy that one day if he lives long enough he will see his daughter walk down the isle and he does in the epilogue noice detail
Played the original in 2002, and just finished the remake. I gotta say, the remake is absolutely perfect. It's faithful in all the right ways while also improving a lot of what makes it difficult to pick up and play the original. Dialogue and story improved, and I really appreciated the changes to the character models and voices (Tommy always seemed like a bit of a rube in the original game). I'll always have fond memories of the original game, but "Definitive Edition" sounds about right to me.
Yeah...English voice acting in original is really terrible, that's why everyone, who played orig. in English is excited from remake...but some of the other languages were amazing sooo there is kind of more critism...
I agree the voice acting in the original was terrible, but some scenes were actually better than in this remake. And Tommy being a somewhat of a rube was kind of the point of his character. He wasn't supposed to be a grizzled badass.

Damn,this ending is so much more emotional and badass than the original,just the fearless look on Tommy's face when Vito and Joe appear,just priceless.

I didn't have problems with the acting on the Original but the Ending narration is vastly improved in the Remake. His face literally says to Vito "You gotta long way to go, kid"

Didn't cry, didn't flinch, didn't even beg for his life. The second he heard "Mr. Angelo?" he knew this was it and you could tell by the stare he gives before turning around.
The way that Tommy freezes when he hears Vito call his name, he knows what is about to happen, and the look he gives Vito after saying yes, waiting in silent anticipation and trying calm his panicking family as he lays on his front lawn with a hole in his stomach telling them that they’re safe now. Still brings tears to the eyes.
The definitive editions ending was better. Here Tommy lives a full life. He grew old with his wife, he saw his daughter get married, and when he was finally found by Vito and Joe, he didn’t act shocked like in the OG but ready to accept his fate, he knew one day Salieri would find him. Best of all he didn’t die alone like in the OG but this time he was surrounded by his family, the ones he sacrificed himself for to protect. A more satisfying ending IMO.

One of the best games I’ve played in such a long time, why can’t they make games like this anymore? The dialogue, the characters, etc. Is perfect. Paulies death hit me hard and as for tommy, he loved his family and would do anything for them. Family is forever
Have you never realized that this entire game ends off like Goodfellas, he gives all of his "friends" away to keep his family alive, his real family, except Henry hill isn't shot on his lawn
@Hishen Mathurin oh yeah they were terrible people. Sam and Paulie I mean. However they’re a lot more calm headed than the characters from Goodfellas. Joe Pescis character was a real lunatic. Even The characters from this remastered edition would hate those guys lol 😂
ive always felt like this ending was based off the goodfellas ending when Henry looks out at his lawn knowing that mafia assassins could be there any day
The voice acting in remake is remarkable! Feels so real with all those expressions.Paulie's dialogue delivery and expressions were superb throughout the game, he felt so fucking real! Sad to see him getting killed :'(
I always prefer Tommys reaction in this ending when Vito and Joe show up. Shows he took stock from what Sam told him about Frank. Compare it to the original where he sounds genuinely surprised they found him. Also very pleased they retconned Vito and Joe's clothes being casual instead of suits.
Just played Mafia Definitive Editon for the first time this week and when I got to this part, I lost it. The story telling behind this game is INCREDIBLE!
Tommy's death in Mafia: Definitive Edition is by far the deepest and the most complex out of the three versions. And that is even without mentioning its best animation, acting or the Mafia 2 theme playing in the background. It's not even the fact that Tommy's family is there and he can tell them his last words, where he openly accepts his death. It is the moment right before he gets shot that really makes it. Tommy has just heard his real name out of nowhere for the first time in many years, while still being in his false identity and that can only mean one thing. Without turning around yet, he puts down his hose in defeat, oddly symbolising dropping his weapon. This is completely unlike all those other times in his old life, such as during the final meeting with Sammy, where he fought away death until his very last breath. Here he is not an invincible badass any more and he is truly done with that life. He turns around and sees two men, one of them holding a shotgun and just after turning around, he slightly nods with his eyes (captured with the great quality animation), because he already knew perfectly well what he was about to see behind his back. Then he says "Yes", but without being startled like in the Mafia original version, nor without feeling nothing but a slight suspicion, like in Mafia 2; here he says "Yes" with strength and while facing death with courage. When Vito finally says his now iconic words, there is even something resembling a peaceful smile on Tommy's face for a split second: he is fully grasping the sad irony of how his life journey has just been completed.
After playing the remastered version of GTA SA, I realized that Mafia really did the best thing remaking the whole game. At first I thought they should have remastered, but it would have been a mistake. What they’ve done is actually a masterpiece out of another masterpiece.
Ageeed, just finished it, I genuinely think that’s the way to handle an old game, Full Remake, Things just aren’t right when they touch up the graphics and sound a little and slap on some free DLC, it often creates bugs and nonsense, I’d prefer that they had redone both mafia like this

This ending is way better. Instead of the unsure "uhhhh....yes?" in the original, Tommy just accepts it. He knows what's happening. He knows that his life would result I this. And he's okay with that
That line with „family.. family is forever“ is damn deep because it does not only refer to his own family, his blood relatives, Sarah and the kids- but the Mafia as well- essentially, you cannot escape either of em..
At 7:26 - 7:33 I somehow feel that Tommy knew his time was up when he heard the words "Mr Angelo?" In a way, maybe not only he also knew his time had come to pay for his betrayal to the don, but also to ensure the protection of his family
7:26 The subtle shift in his eyes, the way he stops watering the lawn, all of it says "Well it took them long enough". This is one of the things they did way better than the original. The original had his be shocked, but here he's accepting of it all. Tommy knew the game and all the risks of it, but his family made it all worth it.
There's no way out from that line of work. You gonna either: a) end up dead. b) end up in prison. You can try to run away, but you cannot run forever. Whether it's a month, a year, or a decade; eventually, they'll find you and they're gonna finish the job. Even if they don't find you by some miracle, you'll spend your entire life in fear by constantly looking behind your shoulder, while asking yourself: "Is this my final day!?"
He isn’t smiling but he isn’t surprised like he was in the original and mafia 2 because he is under a different name so once he hears his old name, he knows they finally came to kill him.
My only gripe about the Definitive edition is that in Mafia 2, the ending still remains the same with the original Tommy being killed so this ending doesn't follow through into Mafia 2. It would have been nice if they could have remade the Mafia 2 scene to match up with this scene as it would have had better consistency in the definitive edition.
Tommy was murdered a day like today. Today is my father's birthday and he has a heart condition. I can't help but, at least, get the chills every single time I'm watching Tommy's death scene. First time I watched it, when playing the game, I did cry. Family is forever. Family is everything

Honestly..Even this game emotionally captured the "Killing main protagonist from the first game" perfectly and We still love Vito and Joe nonetheless as they are beautifully written and likable character not to mention,Tommy went out like a Badass, Accepting his fate while knowing fully that his family will be safe now. unlike TLOU2.
You know that’s a great point. If you’re going to kill the protagonists in the story, you have to do it right. This game and red dead redemption 2 did it very well. I will admit though, I like Vito and Joe a lot less after this remake lol 😂. I didn’t want them to kill Tommy but I understand why he had to die in the remake. He did it to protect his family. But yeah LOU2 handled Joel‘s death very badly. It baffles me to this day how people can just defend that decision in the story.

I mean I understand that everyone has different taste when it comes to stories(one would prefer a western, while the other wants a space game). Well I just played this for the first time. I loved mafia 2 when ut came out but I never got to experience 1. This is basically one of the biggest mind fucks I had in years. I was so happy to play as Vito again when I get to mafia 2. But damn this hurts. One of the greatest last couple chapters of a game ever. I was speechless. And I just watched the old mafia ending. They did do a good job at making you feel his families pain with the additions to the definite edition. What a ride this game was. Im killing vitos punk as in 3 this time.

The best looking ending from Mafia 2 & DE. Tommy knew that they will find him someday. When he drops the hose he knew he is going to die, without fear. He dies like true hero in Mafia DE.
Tommy is this game has a much different personality than the original. In the original game it always felt like Tommy was not adequate for being a criminal and kinda got dragged into it and adjusted to that life and got used to it. He also had a calmer temper in general. This version of Tommy acts much more like a criminal and even tries to justify his actions in a speech to his family and how that made him a better person. Not saying it's a wrong treatment of the character but the energy of this version of the game is much different.
I love the contrast between Sam and Tommy. Sam begs for his life and mocks Tommy thinking there's no way he's gonna pull the trigger. Tommy doesn't beg and he doesn't delude himself into thinking he's gonna live. The second he hears his real last name he knows Vito's here to kill him. He knows he's going to die and he knows it's probably gonna be a painful death. But he stands tall and accepts his fate, knowing his wife and children will be okay
In the original, and Mafia II, Tommy sounded surprised when Vito and Joe show up and asked his name. But, in hindsight, it wouldn't make sense, since he was living under a different alias. In the remake, it's absolutely perfect. When he heard Vito calling for his real name, it clicked for him, he knew 100% what was going to happen.
I really like the detective. He hates Tommy Angelo when they first met and the time he knew Tommy side story, he only felt sympathy towards him in the end.

Well since we don't hear any sirens or car driving away this may have been a minute after he was shot. In the older games, Tommy died immediately.

@@Cj-xt6tv Yeah fits the narrative and doesn't make Tommy seem so cocky. Tommy knew Frank had been tracked down and killed in Europe so there was no reason for him to expect to live out his entire life. Tommy didn't go out like a bitch and got a more deserving death
One of the best games I’ve played in such a long time, why can’t they make games like this anymore? The dialogue, the characters, etc. Is perfect. Paulies death hit me hard and as for tommy, he loved his family and would do anything for them. Family is forever
Have you never realized that this entire game ends off like Goodfellas, he gives all of his "friends" away to keep his family alive, his real family, except Henry hill isn't shot on his lawn
Another difference is unlike Tommy, Henry's friends were real scumbags.

The voice acting in remake is remarkable! Feels so real with all those expressions.Paulie's dialogue delivery and expressions were superb throughout the game, he felt so fucking real! Sad to see him getting killed :'(

Alternate ending
I always prefer Tommys reaction in this ending when Vito and Joe show up. Shows he took stock from what Sam told him about Frank. Compare it to the original where he sounds genuinely surprised they found him. Also very pleased they retconned Vito and Joe's clothes being casual instead of suits.
Just played Mafia Definitive Editon for the first time this week and when I got to this part, I lost it. The story telling behind this game is INCREDIBLE!

Tommy's death in Mafia: Definitive Edition is by far the deepest and the most complex out of the three versions. And that is even without mentioning its best animation, acting or the Mafia 2 theme playing in the background. It's not even the fact that Tommy's family is there and he can tell them his last words, where he openly accepts his death. It is the moment right before he gets shot that really makes it.
Tommy has just heard his real name out of nowhere for the first time in many years, while still being in his false identity and that can only mean one thing. Without turning around yet, he puts down his hose in defeat, oddly symbolising dropping his weapon. This is completely unlike all those other times in his old life, such as during the final meeting with Sammy, where he fought away death until his very last breath. Here he is not an invincible badass any more and he is truly done with that life. He turns around and sees two men, one of them holding a shotgun and just after turning around, he slightly nods with his eyes (captured with the great quality animation), because he already knew perfectly well what he was about to see behind his back. Then he says "Yes", but without being startled like in the Mafia original version, nor without feeling nothing but a slight suspicion, like in Mafia 2; here he says "Yes" with strength and while facing death with courage.
When Vito finally says his now iconic words, there is even something resembling a peaceful smile on Tommy's face for a split second: he is fully grasping the sad irony of how his life journey has just been completed.

After playing the remastered version of GTA SA, I realized that Mafia really did the best thing remaking the whole game. At first I thought they should have remastered, but it would have been a mistake. What they’ve done is actually a masterpiece out of another masterpiece.
Ageeed, just finished it, I genuinely think that’s the way to handle an old game, Full Remake, Things just aren’t right when they touch up the graphics and sound a little and slap on some free DLC, it often creates bugs and nonsense, I’d prefer that they had redone both mafia like this
I love continuity like this in games and books and what not. Character you loved killed by the character you grew to love in the next game, love it.
This was and is one of the best gangster "movies" every made.
Gotta love how they changed Tommy's look in mafia definitive edition becuase he dies in 1951 so he's 51 in mafia 1 they made him look a lot older but in mafia definitive edition they changed his look a bit gotta love the designers choice
This ending is way better. Instead of the unsure "uhhhh....yes?" in the original, Tommy just accepts it. He knows what's happening. He knows that his life would result I this. And he's okay with that

7:26 The subtle shift in his eyes, the way he stops watering the lawn, all of it says "Well it took them long enough". This is one of the things they did way better than the original. The original had his be shocked, but here he's accepting of it all. Tommy knew the game and all the risks of it, but his family made it all worth it.
There's no way out from that line of work.

Whether it's a month, a year, or a decade;
eventually, they'll find you and they're gonna finish the job.

He isn’t smiling but he isn’t surprised like he was in the original and mafia 2 because he is under a different name so once he hears his old name, he knows they finally came to kill him.
He knew they came to kill him and he was ready to meet Paulie again :)
I think he might’ve just accepted his fate seeing he had a new name and identity yet they still found him.
Tommy knows that his whole family will be safe, because they won't get killed by a car bomb or anything like that if he's dead.

My only gripe about the Definitive edition is that in Mafia 2, the ending still remains the same with the original Tommy being killed so this ending doesn't follow through into Mafia 2. It would have been nice if they could have remade the Mafia 2 scene to match up with this scene as it would have had better consistency in the definitive edition.

Honestly..Even this game emotionally captured the "Killing main protagonist from the first game" perfectly and We still love Vito and Joe nonetheless as they are beautifully written and likable character not to mention,Tommy went out like a Badass, Accepting his fate while knowing fully that his family will be safe now.

You know that’s a great point. If you’re going to kill the protagonists in the story, you have to do it right. This game and red dead redemption 2 did it very well. I will admit though, I like Vito and Joe a lot less after this remake lol 😂. I didn’t want them to kill Tommy but I understand why he had to die in the remake. He did it to protect his family. But yeah LOU2 handled Joel‘s death very badly. It baffles me to this day how people can just defend that decision in the story.

Well I just played this for the first time. I loved mafia 2 when ut came out but I never got to experience 1. This is basically one of the biggest mind fucks I had in years. I was so happy to play as Vito again when I get to mafia 2. But damn this hurts. One of the greatest last couple chapters of a game ever. I was speechless. And I just watched the old mafia ending. They did do a good job at making you feel his families pain with the additions to the definite edition. What a ride this game was. Im killing vitos punk as in 3 this time.

I played Mafia 2 before I did this game. It hits DIFFERENT I cried
Tommy is this game has a much different personality than the original. In the original game it always felt like Tommy was not adequate for being a criminal and kinda got dragged into it and adjusted to that life and got used to it. He also had a calmer temper in general. This version of Tommy acts much more like a criminal and even tries to justify his actions in a speech to his family and how that made him a better person. Not saying it's a wrong treatment of the character but the energy of this version of the game is much different.

I love the contrast between Sam and Tommy. Sam begs for his life and mocks Tommy thinking there's no way he's gonna pull the trigger. Tommy doesn't beg and he doesn't delude himself into thinking he's gonna live. The second he hears his real last name he knows Vito's here to kill him. He knows he's going to die and he knows it's probably gonna be a painful death. But he stands tall and accepts his fate, knowing his wife and children will be okay

In the original, and Mafia II, Tommy sounded surprised when Vito and Joe show up and asked his name. But, in hindsight, it wouldn't make sense, since he was living under a different alias.
In the remake, it's absolutely perfect. When he heard Vito calling for his real name, it clicked for him, he knew 100% what was going to happen.
