The most important thing is the fun you have with the MT09. 99% of riders won't compete in a race and this bike is perfect for average riding. Minimal weight, enough power, best sound and it handles like a 250 crosser. THE sweet spot at an affordable price. I test rode it today and immediatly ordered the SP version, because the suspension is ok, but not premium. I traded in my 2022 Hayabusa and the 120 hp from the mt09 standard version felt more fun and engaging than the 190 hp of my bike. And, being from Germany, I actually can do 190 mph on my bike legally.
Describing the essence of a bike as opposed to talking a bucket-load of technical info is no easy task, but you certainly nailed it. Not a bike I am interested in, but still enjoyed your review of it...
Quality presentation on this channel again - nice work Greg! ....and I have one of these in the garage at the moment (my first video isn't published until June the 5th though - shameless plug there) and - spoiler alert - I agree with pretty much everything you said. The bike is very impressive and one of the best fun machines I've ridden in a long time....doesn't look quite as nice as a Street Triple IMO but I think it might pip it on the fun factor....as you say, one for the short list for sure!
Nice one Greg - great insight. I rode the older Gen SP last year and most/all of your comments and thoughts on this version were my exact ones for the older version too. So defo want to hear more of your opinions and reviews. Nice work
Great review & bike. Looks like an excellent package & could be up there for best value bike on the market currently. I think the looks are even growing on me. Although can't rule out the Street Triple as that's a fantastic machine too.
I test road one maybe three years ago. and also an XSR a little over one year ago. and I liked the light feeling of the bike when going through the city. but on the open road I didn't like how light the front end felt. to me I equate the light front wheel with feeling unstable. I always felt like at anytime the front end was going to just hover above the road. you just don't get the feedback I want to have from the front end of the bike. I know they have changed the ergonomics a little bit and made it more of a lean to the bars. which should put a little bit more of your weight on the front end of the bike. I test road a Triumph Street Triple Rs around the same time as the MTo9. and the Triumph felt more planted to me. anyway I ended up buying a Ducati 939 Supersport. which feels planted to the ground. and I really love. and I appreciate having a fairing even if it's not that big. on the Mto9 I felt like I was being hammered by the wind all the time.
Chopsie, more hypermotard build pretty please! I like the reviews and rides but the working in garage videos are the best. Plus we've been following that build almost 5 years now lol, so we have been patient. Lotsa love from across the pond
I had a 2023 MT-09 SP. If youre a light fella i would definitly not recommend a SP. I weigh 75Kg without Gear. I tried settings the supspension in any kind of way, but it still did not work for me. I recommend you to test ride the sp beforehand.
You should actually add the 790 Duke aswell. Considering the pricejump from the 790 to 990, is it worth it? I have the 790 and for me, that's enough power for the street. But yes, I would love such a comparison film.
@@Alien992.2 You need to get Dave Moss Tuning to help you out. $50-100 for a suspension setup appointment is money well spent. I had Dave set up my 22 MT09SP and he did an amazing job and can do over phone or Zoom! Sets sag & everything.
After watching this chanel and I preordered the MT09 SP 2024 model I decided to go for KTM last week to go ahead with the Duke 890 R , maybe don’t have all toys new MG09 have but after few days of ride I think I done a best decision ever ❤

Great review Greg. Alway glad to see you and chopsy. Superb machine. Think it's between this and the street triple R for my next steed,... bit of a tart me,... throw my leg over anything! C 😂
Fantastic review. I was looking for a new bike in 24. I was torn between the new MT-09 and the current 10. I went with the 10 because I thought the new 09, which seems brilliant, looked too Transformer(e). A sentence I never thought I'd write, especially in comparison to an MT-10.
Good vid, honestly couldn’t look back at the yam when I walk away. If I was in the market for this type of bike the triumph wins all day long l,good luck Gregg
Yes! but the new MT09 comes with wheelie control that is separate from the traction control. On the Street Triple it is combined so if you want wheelies then you have to turn everything off.
Nice one Greg 👍simple and to the point waffling, don't know how you managed to find dry roads every time I go down those roads the bike is covered in crap😢. Keep the the good work 👍
Definitely a goer with straight bars fitted. I put a pair on my Suzuki V thou years ago and don't get blown backwards on the seat when giving it a handful, as was the case with OE bars similar to the Yamaha ones. Slightly more of a reach but not a great issue with my ape-like arms.
A very competent review as I would expect, Greg. Thanks! I'd like to know which tyres are fitted to these press-fleet bikes. This only gets an occasional mention on many channels.
@@tubejorrit Thanks very much. This is a bit of an issue for me. It seems to be an increasingly common practice and I'm not sure how manufacturers get away with it; they're either the same tyre or they aren't. I think reviewers should take them to task.
I had a 2019 SP and it was afaik even more rear biased than newer gens. So after couple incidents of minor "slappage" I bought aftermarket steering damper :). It was fun bike but unfortunately it was stolen otherwise who knows I might still have it. Happy with my current -22 TuonoV4. It's an upgrade imo but there are certainly things mt09 is better at.
What a super review. Loved it all. Great machine and even better soundtrack. Mind you, I nearly had heart failure as you approached some of those shitty water run-off areas! Now, where did I leave that £14k😊
Excellent review! I wish we had test rides here in USA. How different is the riding position from last yrs model, how much weight in wrists & low back? How are your hips? Do they get tight or cramp? I had 22 MT09SP had to sell when moved cross country. You said the 24 is slightly more sporty with new rake, pegs & bars. How does the 24 MT09 brakes compare to 23 base & SP? The map integration is it a must have & what ways is it better than using phone. Thx
I actually LIKE that exhaust if it was painted black. For me the tucked and tidy look is unique and preferable on these bikes. I'd just want it painted black. There is an aftermarket exhaust for the last gen that mostly keep the tucked and covert look but was fancier.
I need to try and see if it is that much better than the previous one. A few hours riding on my '21 MT09 is enough for my rear end. Some padding needed...
Nice one Greg. Thank you as it was great to hear your perspective on this bike. Looks are subjective, however I think it’s an improvement to the previous model that had the looks that only a mother would love. Still not to my taste and would love this engine in say the street triple to enhance that bike’s everyday usability.
It's a good motorcycle and a set off Rizzoma flat bars would be perfect for it ,, I've a sat on my K6GSXR,, to get middle ground for me,,,🤔☘️☘️☘️☘️ from northern Ireland
Nice review; I'm really tempted and will be having a test ride of an SP when available. I'm interested to know how you feel it compares to the MT10 in terms of riding position and comfort.
I still find it odd that this bike weighs about the same as my 24 y/o ZX9r but has less power and torque, comparing gear ratios would be interesting. My bike is brutal but I have done a fair bit of tuning to get more air and fuel in plus a +4 degree ignition advancer to burn the mixture sooner, also getting only clean air in by removing the CCB from the airbox as well as the KLEEN air (pairs) system and blocking the holes and joining the two with a small K&N filter so the engine has options lol I also shimmed the main jet needles and no doubt more I can't think of other than the obvious exhaust and K&N filter.
Great and honest review Greg, and i had the last model so can compare. However if you and chops want more bikes from the manufacturers you’ll have to blow a bit more smoke up their arses about their bike lol. Keep it up
Got mine Tuesday and put 500km on it so far. It vibrates a bit more than i remember the last model doing, feels a bit more rough? Is it because it's brand new and i should wait for the first service or is it possible something isn't right with it? Footpegs vibrate quite a bit. Granted i dont exactly ride in slow motion but i expected it to feel more refined.

5:48 This MT-09's wheelbase is actually 3cm longer than the 765 RS. What you're feeling here is probably related to rake and suspension setup.
