Installation of the Smart carb was easy on my application since i was able to use the stock throttle cable. This made installation very easy. If you've installed a carb before, this is the same deal.
Since I didn't need to remove the airbox and shave the airbox boot for the Vent Scoop, it made installation pretty easy. If you are installing on a Sherco bike, you will need to shave some of the airbox away to allow air to pass into the vent scoop. Not sure on KTM installations whether you'd have to do this or not.
Performance:
The bike started right up after install. No issues there. On my first ride, I found that the bike was running a bit rich. I was at about 8000 feet. This was no surprise to me. No big deal though since I could adjust the carb on the mountain without any tools. Hurray! Left is leaner, right is richer. That is a nice touch for sure.
I Love that the choke is on the correct side of the carb.
Having a carb that can self meter is a huge thing for many people. This carb has certainly shown the ability to do that for me. It's been running cleanly through the rev range at all the places I've taken it so far. Being able to lean out or en-richen the mix on the trail is the another benefit here over the stock carburetor, which would require tools, and jets. Not ideal to do on the trail. This one is easy.
It's nice that you can pick the 36mm or the 38mm carb. The 36mm carbs are more for the low end power, while the 38mm carbs give you a little better top end power on that side of the rev range.
I haven't noticed any real increased range after installing this carb. It's still sucking fuel, but my gut feeling tells me I'm not losing as much fuel out the overflows as compared to stock.
I love that it's a single vent hose for a clean look.
