    I just did the Apr stage 1 flash on my 17 R. Manual. It def changes the entire car. The boost is almost double. The G force that it pushes u into the Seat with is scary for people I take for a ride to show them "why I got a VW R" lol. They saw my last cars. Infiniti G hooked up the ass and a lexus I worked nicely. This car is BY FAR my favorite ride ever. At this point in time. The thought process and TLC that went into this car is noticeable in everything that it does and now it just does it FASTER. I am def goin to keep going down the road on modding this. This APR stage 1 is the single best mod u can get for the money. I went "low torque " so as not to burn out the factory clutch yet. Sacrificing 15ft/lbs of torque but saving 1300 USD$ in the mean time. When the time comes I will swap out the clutch but for now it's a pleasure. Still getting high 20's to 30's on the highway and 20 on the street. Even if I'm alittle loco with it. Got the Pirellis on it. 19" all season bcuz the weather is shit out here a lot of the time. I have felt that better tires at this point would be noticeably different. ESP at approaching cornering limits. But I would tell EVERYONE interested in a fast , usable in the snow , daily driver / sleeper. To test drive one of these. I got manual bcuz I love them. But the DSG is even quicker. I can't imagine. Great vid. Appreciate the feedback. Keep it coming. SUB!

    MUCH better to have spinning tires than strain on the drivetrain. Tires are easy to replace, drivetrain and transmissions are not.

      You need an upgraded diff. Volkswagens always produce crazy torque from small engines, they're prone to torque steer and wheel spin if you don't have an LSD and a good set of tires. Stock tires are eco tires that have silicone filled on the inside to create a stiffer wall and low rolling resistance. APR will tell you that you can use a Stage 1 tune with no other mods required, but I wouldn't recommend it until you get better suspension, tires and diff.

      Get some PSS 235/40/18's they fit on the stock rims fine if you aren't lowered. Get a Dogbone insert, it will reduce wheel spin, and ease into the pedal, if you floor it, you are going to spin in first and 2nd for sure. If the WRX is a new and not modified you should be faster from a rolling start for sure.

  • @benramin7797
    @benramin7797 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've had 2 new VW's APR tuned with stage 2 high torque. 1 used car as well. Driving over 60k on the new cars and over 100k on the used one and no chip related problems. 5K oil chaing intervals, decreased spark plug interval due to the shorter lifespan of the upgraded plugs that should be used with a tune. All other maintenance standard.
    The one exception is that my golf R clutch could not handle the power of the APR tune... this is not a deficiency with the software, it's testament to it's power and VW's penny saving on the clutch. I expected as much and upgraded to a OEM SACHS option with the stage 2 tune.
    APR is as quality as the stock tune, just aiming for different things.

    I did the APR 87 tune on a 2016 Golf TSI SE Auto ... Night and day difference ... makes the car fun to drive while running on 87!!! plenty of power ! better MPG ,this tune is really how the car should have came from factory .. Also Avoid Malone , their tune for the TSI SUCKS! and you will be left hanging with no support, just excuses and BS emails . Then when you ask for a refund , you get only part of your $$ back , you will be left with a shitty tune that needs 91 and make the car run like CRAP! • @harryberry474
    @harryberry474 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    What does he mean "thicker tires"? Does he mean wider tires? Obviously he doesn't understand wheels/tire specs for Mk7...there is a range of wheel tire combinations you have to choose from so you don't change the ratio (how many tire revolutions per mile) too much either way from the stock recommended tire size and you'll get speedo error and too high or too low engine rpm at any given speed. Wheel size width choice isn't as critical as long as you don't have wheel rubbing on brake parts or inner and outer fenders also wheel offset is important too for same reason.
    But, just use common sense I wouldn't go any larger than 19"x 8.5" MAX which can probably be done but I personally wouldn't due to 1.probable clearance issues and 2.Too low of profile tire for any comfort (if that's important to you)...but it's up to you what sacrifices you're will to make. All this, you'll also have to consider ride height into the mix...it's a process if done right it will be rewarding if done wrong it can be a nightmare (and expensive).

  • @samuelc6904
    @samuelc6904 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Stage one tune is nothing man and is definitely not a strain on your car, a Audi 2.7 all stock can handle 500 crank hp and 520 tq to the crank reliably..stage 1 and stage 2 are just a tune and stage 3 is a tune with k04 turbos upgraded injectors, fuel pump, stage 2 + clutch kit and intake system and exhaust this is the basics to a stage III build but are all just both on on a stock transmission in stock motor can easily make 450 all wheel horsepower with no problems.. 034 motorsportsat everything you’ll ever need to add performance your Audi including full stage III plus builds

    • @JoshTVids
      @JoshTVids  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree. However, regardless of the severity of a tune, having protective measures does nothing but prolong the longevity of the engine. You cant argue that the tune doesn't put strain on the engine, it certainly does, just to a certain extent.

    Stage 1 tune only unlocks power that VW hid. The EA888 engine is easily capable of 300 reliable horsepower. Remember, VW's first water cooled engine was a diesel, so petrol blocks are built tough. The latest generation golf is 292hp stock, with the same engine that is in the Tiguan.

    It's a stage one my guy you won't hurt your car, lol it's a basic run that you can get warrantied. There's people with 500whp on stock 2.0l with no issues

    Thank you for sharing your experience with the build.Audi comes clogged from Europe because of the emissions and tight regulations but if you let the engine breath the car will reward yourself with longevity

    Servicing your car should be second nature anyway, But the engine in the Golf R mk7 isn't just a remapped Gti engine = It's been worked over to handle 400hp reliably ( Prompting rumours of a Golf R400 ) :D
    Most car makers run their engines at a low state of tune anyway, So a stage 1 should only let the engine perform as it should do.
    Can't go wrong with regular servicing though :)

      @alanabitia9267 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lee .Finney I really REALLY hope we get that R400 or R500. I've seen some already in Brazil but I'm not sure if they are just concept tunes.. I would trade my gti in for one of those

    • @Belbivdevoe
      @Belbivdevoe 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lee .Finney the golf r 400 was going to have the 2.5 t engine (same as ttrs) but the 2.0 t in the R can handle much more than 400 ie the beetle grc at 550hp.. I so wish they would come out with the wagon version of the r

    I just bought a Golf GTI MK5. Do you recommend APR stage 1 with a PCV delete or any other update in general for maximum reliability? I would like to have a stage 1 ONLY, not even change the intake if possible. Would this be reliable with proper and careful maintenance?Thanks in advance and thanks for your review !

      My 2007 GTI was Stage 2+ and I sold it with 304,000km on it (tuned at 98,000km). I had full exhaust and intake. Solid engine and transmission mounts. And solid brass shifter link bushings for the manual. Eventually the clutch needs replacement (stock is fine, you dont need an upgrade). And replace shocks, if its higher mileage (180,000 km).

      I had an alltrack for about a year and on my second day I got an APR plus tune at the dealership, it made it so much better. I ended up trading it in but I wish I kept it for a commuter car. Now I’m looking for another one 🤦🏼‍♂️

    Not so. Synthetic oils are very good protecting engines. A stage 1 APR tune actually drops temp by 10 Celsius having your car actually run cooler than before the tune. This helps with engine oil life. If you only drive it hard every now and then and considering the already mentioned, you be fine for the standard oil change interval.
    If ypi drive it hard more regularly, then yes. Change it 5000 km earlier.

    • @alanabitia9267
      @alanabitia9267 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      pacman19912 hey yea the car has to come with them since it means it has a DSG transmission. My 2012 GLI has the shifters as well. Nowadays, almost all cars come with the "auto/manual" mode but it is not the same as the actual DSG transmission that gives you the paddle shifters. Hope that helps!
