      Fantastic car Steve. Kids!?!? They just don't get it.
      Hopefully, someday they will. Like Max and my 28 year old son, Steven. He loves the cars from our day. His two older brothers, not so much. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

      Great car! Most common problem on those cars is rust and it's why a lot of them are no longer on the road. It's not uncommon for these cars to rust out along the strut towers. I've heard horror stories where people have been killed driving these cars because the strut towers completely rotted away and the struts go through the hood when driving over train tracks and the vehicle becomes immobilized and gets hit by a train. If you see that happen on these cars and it has sentimental value and you want to save it then the body has to be treated for rust because it will only get worse overtime.

    "Only 145hp"..grrr. It's right on the money for a 2.8 straight-6 in that period. In fact, in 1979 Ford were putting 139hp 4.9 V8's in the Foxbody Mustang. Nice story and nice video. I have a red '83. Nice to see the rear wiper removed, it looks clean.

    I knew at first glance this was a 2+2. I know exactly what that means. I remember working at a Toyota dealership in the early '80's and we had a trade-in 280Z. I had never been in one before then. I was completely blown away as soon as I sat in it. We were quite proud of Toyota quality then and I had a new Celica as my executive demo, but when I sat in and drove that 280Z it was at a whole 'nother level. IMO the T-Top was the greatest design element ever. Perfect blend between convertible and coupe with all the positives of open air motoring without the negatives of the limited life span of a convertible top. I've owned three T-Top cars as well as two convertibles and the unexpected rain was no more cumbersome for either. Thank goodness for overpasses and covered service stations. 😅

      Hah that's an awesome story Johnny! I didn't know you rocked around in some t-top cars that's awesome. I must agree they look amazing and this car has aged very well with the times. I think with his minor changes to the body and lights made it look modern but classic as well. First time I saw it I swore it was a porche. But yes the 280z is next level and it was a run ride. You had a trans am at one point did you not?

    • @johnnyduplantis
      @johnnyduplantis 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SubdivisionAuto No Trans Am, a new 1978 Camaro 4 speed with T-Tops. Same blue as the one in your video. Sold it and bought a red with white interior 4 speed 1977 T-Top Corvette with 8.000 miles on it, 2 years old at the time. Paid Black Book clean wholesale to a female nurse that owned it. I don't remember the amount. My third T-Top was a new 1982 Silver Blue Corvette. Young and dumb in those days. Never kept a car over two years. Still have my 1999 Camaro SS, 6-speed, black convertible purchased new almost 25 years ago. It sits in the driveway with my youngest sons black 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport Limited with an alleged blown head gasket. We've not yet gotten around to having it checked out. Life happens. 😕

      @johnnyduplantis wow what an automotive history! Yeah those t top corvettes were pretty cool, if only we knew better than getting rid of cool cars in our youth eh? Hah the cars were all cool back then I doubt anyone will be bragging about a versa these 30 years from now. But yeah cool cars man I personally love the 80s camaros great looking cars. Vettes are cool too my best buddy has one we did an episode on his 78. He just completed an LS swap. He not only shaped the engine but also rebuilt it with the trans. First timer did it all himself and the thing runs. Amazing people out there hard not to be inspired.

      @@SubdivisionAuto Yep! And I didn't mention my new"demo" first-title in my name, 1974, B-5 Blue with white interior, 440 Magnum, Dodge Charger SE Brougham with power everything that I bought while in college paying $86 (US) per month. Paid 12 payments in three months of summer work and skipped 9 months while in school. Repeated the process for 2 years before graduating at which time I sold it for $2,500 to buy my special ordered 1976 Chrysler Cordoba with sun-roof and "fine Corinthian" leather.
      Oh to have had a crystal ball back then. The last year for the 440 and very few '74 Chargers had them. Of all the great cars I've had, that Charger would be the one I should have kept on ice! 😔

      @johnnyduplantis wow those are some insane cars. Anything with a 440 magnum is worth keeping for sure. My wife's dad had a 72 rallye charger within 440 mag. I found it 24 years after be sold it and we film and episode on it... but man you had some cool cars. Cordoba were awesome cars too man you've lived life in the fast lane my friend!

      @@SubdivisionAuto yeah that happened to a guy in Kansas. I believe it was David Long better known as the car wizard from Hoovie‘s garage it was his brother‘s friend. Apparently what happened was the wizard told his brother about the issue when he saw it and for whatever reason it was never addressed, and his brother eventually ended up selling the car to a friend, and this friend of his brothers friend was the guy who was killed in the car when the front strut towers collapsed and went right through the hood of the car on a train track. A train came by and he was killed instantly. Very sad story. Fortunately, for Steve, it looks like his car is still in very good condition and as best I can determine it has basically no body rust.
      That being said, I am going to recommend that he spray the entire undercarriage of the car and underneath the strut towers with rust inhibitor and also LiquiMoly cable grease. That will repel salt and corrosion from sticking to the frame of the car and he will never have that problem. I’m guessing he probably doesn’t drive it much in the winter anyways, but you never know. From the looks of it since his car has a strep brace I think that was one of the modifications that they did with those cars in an effort to the strut towers from collapsing, so it may actually be fine the way it is, but I would highly recommend going the extra mile and doing these steps as well.
