    I use sections of pvc- unglued- to water plants with my air conditioner drip. I have each section go to a rose bush and loosen the joint when I want to water that plant. at the end of the sections of pipe, I added a piece of hose that I can move around to reach some other plants. I change the section of loosened pipe daily in the summer to a different rose bush.

    A garden sprinkler or soaker hose can be picked up at the local box store or hardware store for about half the price of the materials used in this video. And then there is the time saved in buying the hose or sprinkler, rolling it up and storing it away, as opposed to carting that large square of tubing and finding a place to store in in the off season. Total waste of time...

  • @richardc8029
    @richardc8029 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wrong on so many levels! It is particularly unattractive. There is something known as PVC cement rather than fouling your heat gun. You cannot overwater your tree with the amount of water required to keep a lawn green (i.e., there is no reason to avoid watering the tree.) The holes in a straight line means the water falls in a defined stripe --- better to stagger the holes. What do you do when you mow the lawn? ... when the tree grows too big to remove the 'sprinkler'?

      It still isn't great, because the water shoots out to the same distance more or less and is not distributed evenly over the lawn. It makes a larger square of the yard soggy as shit and the rest of it mostly untouched. The guy who made it is a fucking idiot.

    Probably best to drill the holes and flush out debris before assembly. As you can buy lawn sprinklers that offer better coverage and are more compactly stored, for less than $10, not much more than the cost of parts for this assembly, what advantage does this thing offer?

    Is there an explanation as to why it's shaped the way it is, or why it's better than a ready-made sprinkler from the store that likely costs less than the components here? Or is this just a desperate idea to get views?

    • @moxellex
      @moxellex 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      well, i don't know if a sprinkler is cheaper, you'd be hard pressed to find one for under 30 euro here (without a hose, the one's that come with a hose are even more expensive) . and maybe homeowners have pipes like that lying around anyway, from earlier renovations and whatnot ....
      also, not having the tree soaked every time you water the lawn *is* an advantage .

    • @jw11432
      @jw11432 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      At Walmart here you can pick one up for $15. As for the hose, you'd need to buy a hose either way, so I'm not sure that's a valid argument.
      Having spare parts makes some sense, perhaps someone who just likes to put stuff together and/or recycle spare parts?
      Not sure I understand the advantage of not watering a tree. Can you explain that?

      There's no good reason to build yourself one of these, it is indeed just to get views I suppose. The only thing that this 'invention' got going for itself is the low costs. Other than that I only see cons. You only water a certain spot on your grass which will be absolutely drenched, or you have to keep moving this structure the whole time which takes away it's purpose (watering the grass for you, instead of you watering the grass). As for overwatering the tree, once you have so much water that it affects the tree, all of the grass will have 'drowned' by then.

    This is an exercise in how not to irrigate a specific area hence the shape, but why, whats the point? If just making a sprinkler this would only be a cost saving exercise if you had left over tubing and the tools. As a practical method of watering the lawn the water will puddle where it is falling in only a couple of minutes. A rotary sprinkler or an oscillating sprinkler is better and lets be honest they are not expensive. So why would you do this?

    Uh, no. Too much time wasted making something I can buy cheaply. When calculating the cost of DIY projects, you should always consider the cost of your time as well as materials. What do you make an hour in your job? Now apply that to the time spent making this, PLUS the cost of materials and compare to the cost of buying a sprinkler that will do the same job. Just because you CAN, doesn't mean you SHOULD.

    this is stupid.
    I am all for "do t yourself", but this is ridiculous.
    You paid much mor for the materials than a normal, sore-bought sprinkler with direction channge and dosibg of the wat output would have cos.

    It's cheaper to just buy a moving fan sprinkler at Walmart and it waters a larger area.

    Great idea. Buy a bunch of PVC, PVC glue, a pipe clamp, and spend an hour assembling everything instead of buying a cheaper sprinkler that distributes the water more evenly.

    I have always enjoyed garden improvement, I would put small building materials on our nice garden, But I come allergic to cement, many of visits to the doctor, but one person told me to urinate on my hands, I laughed at first, but I eventually did it and it worked.

    I read, see a lot of negatives such as why water grass and not the tree. The leaves on the tree is like umbrella and it is more drier in the middle even when it is raining, and when it rains it splash off the outside leaves down to the ground where the grass is and it also water the roots that is growing out away from the tree. The roots are the most important and that is where you need to water. The roots from big trees can grow farther and farther out.

    If you are smart enough to add music that is annoying, you should be able to describe what is going on , and to products being used.

    I will give you a "A" for effort but way too much work and time and not better than dept store item. Why not get a old broken down garden hose you don't use anymore . Cut it to size you want and drill same holes . Install a T fitting to tie both end of hose and one end to garden hose . Fast and easy.

    Not a good idea if you are on a water meter, however, could be adapted for container irrigation with a gallon (or whatever size) plumbed into the other end of a short hose and raised above for steady gravity feed. Strawberries, in particular, grown in long troughs or guttering come to mind. Got me thinking ...
