    The main reason why this is the best 2 in 1 and infact 15" is the gpu and cpu are seperated and cooling is awesome

    The fact that this laptop was released a couple of years ago yet it still remains one of the best machines you can get today is testament to the work Microsoft put into it.

      The display is shit(heavy transient image persistence same issue for SB3 and it makes the display look cloudy). The battery loses charge(10~%/day) when shut down . The dedicated GPU uses power(20~W) even when disabled(bios or device manager) and/or not in use. Lots of other "features".

    I own this surface book 2 but here is what I think:
    Built quality is the best out there in windows laptops that was one of the reasons I went for this machine.
    but having said so the first problem that came out of the box was whenever I put it on charge the processor immediately locked at 0.4 Ghz
    It happened till the last update in 2020 but last month I was able to figure out a fix using throttle stop but having said that when i am investing so
    much it really hurts to experience such issues.
    Also, this is for everyone who is thinking of using in tablet mode because I was also the one who thought I would be taking it everywhere with me and using it as a tablet.
    I own the 15inch model so whenever I try to use it as tablet first thing that is the most annoying is the windows on screen keyboard, its doesn't seem to sense all the taps first and
    second you cant use an on screen keyboard on a 15 inch screen (not even in portrait mode ) trust me on this.
    WINDOWS IN TOUCH MODE IS A NIGHT MARE. I also own a pen but you cant make use of it because whenever you tap a search bar using a stylus it pops open a writing recognition window.
    Third thing is the heating. Due to its metal body it heats up pretty easily and trust me you cant really hold this in tablet mode or touch on the screen because it gets too damn hot.
    I have never used mac but I think apple does know all the hassle that comes with the touch. You cant just add touch to a User interface that is not optimized for touch.
    Also, just forget about connecting it with external monitor because its another shit hole.
    Having invested in this machine just makes me question everyday why I made this investment.
    I watched all the youtube reviews but no review talks about these details.
    All the reviews are so shallow and just talk about the general things over and over again. I mean once you use it daily then different annoying things pop and you get really frustrated.
    Whoever is thinking of buying this machine my advice to you is that please don't. You will regret it.
    Btw I shifted from my chepo HP Probook G5 AND I STILL THINK IT WAS BETTER THAN THIS because it got the job done.
    I am a graphic Designer and Photographer by profession.

      I’m sure you’ve decided on a laptop by now, but I know that personally after having owned both the SB2 and an iPad Pro, I’d just get the laptop you want/need (maybe a plain old surface laptop rather than the book?) and then an iPad on top of it. Even with windows 11, windows on a tablet is awful.
      Curious though, if you did, what did you end up going with?

    I’ve been wanting to purchase this laptop for a while now, however I’ve heard there is an apparent screen crack issue with it. I’ve been reading a lot of reviews and doing my due diligence when it comes to researching products, and a lot of people have complained about the screen just cracking by itself. That’s kind of been the main dealbreaker for me cause why would I want spend a hefty load on a product that’s so fragile and easy to damage. It sucks because it really is an awesome device!

    • @ChristopherX30
      @ChristopherX30 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have owned one for two years now. I have never even heard of this issue.
      The primary issue that I have is t hat constant gaming will destroy the battery over time. That, and that the hard drive isn't easily upgradable because everything is located behind the screen.

  • @DigitalSamTV
    @DigitalSamTV 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    ive had one of these for over a year... it workes fine. however the build quality is terrible. they covered the whole thing in some kind of thick grey laquer / paint (why they didnt just use the raw aluminum like apple does i dont kmow)... but as u use the machine or move it around. this laquer / paint chips off super easily... especially all along the edges but also in the middle aswell if its bumped at all. it ends looking very rough very fast. doesnt affect performance... but a very strange and dumb deceision by whoever came up with this idea.
    also the lid closing after a while doesnt line up and doesnt shut fully on 1 side (3mm gap left on right side)
    also for this price... these issues should not be there.

    • @ChristopherX30
      @ChristopherX30 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bought a protecting casing for mine, much like you would do for a tablet. I would have purchased a screen protector as well, but I wasn't sure if the heat emitting would become a problem.

    • @tshirtsuperstar3195
      @tshirtsuperstar3195 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ChristopherX30 the heat generated is a serious isue, im surprised yours is not overheating with the casing added. Recently my battery has overheated and swelled up, making the screen bulge and microsoft has actually decided to replace the whole unit after i contacted them even though its a year outside of warranty... god service for them to do that! but overall the thing is complete shit quality , especially for the premium price.

    My CPU and GPU have throttling issues to the point where the battery drains faster and games only play for a few minutes before a massive slowdown. Graphic intensive programs are basically unusable on my SB2, and Microsoft has yet to release a fix for this. Apparently this has been around for years, I'm not the only one with this issue. Something wrong with the form factor may be why they haven't announced a refresh as of yet, Microsoft may be trying to let the surface book line die quietly

It’s even sadder that during this time for the price of the device we couldn’t get a nvidia gtx 1070 or even 1080 as the 1060m is vr incapable but your still able to work around this with an oculus quest but again the main thing that is stopping it for being great for me the disconnect gpu I’ll most likely get a desktop or better laptop in the future. • @andyH_England
    @andyH_England 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    There are few companies in the Universe that could charge so much for a device that was released 30 months ago! The i7 13 inch is £2500 in the UK which is beyond a joke. A Dell XPS from that era with the same spec can be bought for a third of that price. It would be foolish to buy this now and even when the updated version does arrive it will be a hard buy as they are ridiculously bad value. No wonder MS cannot be bothered to update them regularly, it must sell in small quantities to just affiliated MS fans.
    They have mixed QC but better than 3-years ago when quality was at rock bottom from MS. Hopefully the next update resolves all the issues and is more inspired than the more recent updates to the Surface Laptop and Pro, which were insipid.

    As a surface book owner I find the whole detach system unnecessary. Almost anyone who detaches it, does it to attach the tablet facing away so it could fold in to screenonly.
    The keyboard also doesnt work wireless while detached which is dissapointing.
    The touchpad need to become bigger to make use of the space like macbooks.
    The bezels are too big.
    Drawing still has a noticable input delay.
    The gap when folded is big.

I'm considering uploading a setup video, or videos outside of dedicated laptop reviews but I'm not a big fan of risks. Most channels don't usually exceed their subscriber count in views per video, but I often do. If I start uploading videos that don't get many views, it might hurt future video performance. I've had this laptop for 2 years and nothing but problems. I don't know where to begin. The keyboard has a problem where the cursor will just drop down a couple lines while you type. The batteries are weak and last about 40% as long as advertised. The two video cards and two batteries have many problems. Sometimes I get a black screen and have to do a special boot-up procedure. The surface pen is not accurate enough. I just opened this laptop on eco mode at 100% and I've been writing this and browsing for about 25mins and my battery is at 85%. The charger doesn't charge the battery fast enough while being used. If you have it plugged in and are watching a movie/gaming the battery will actually go to zero. This laptop is a mess. On paper it is nice but in reality, all these features don't work well. I have Macbooks too and I am 100% certain those will still be working when this SB2 has been recycled years ago.

    One advice: When you use surface product, never use third party things to update, like nvidia experience, just use windows 10 update

      can you please elaborate why? I use surface products! Thanks

      @@minooperations5198 Because use other things to update will cause problems, especially the case with Surface Book 2's GTX 1060, if you use Nvidia Geforce Experience to update, there's a high risk that your 1060 will not work. Just use the official update and official bios update from microsoft.

      @@minooperations5198 I think surface pro/go is fine, but since I don't need to use other things to update them with gpu or some other things.

    Hinge design is cringe sadly. Porche Design Book nailed their hinge design damn good early on in the market. Sad they never did a refresh for 2020

    1.crazy amounts of minor issues. 2.Detaching doesnt work sometimes. 3.windows update on this shit computer cause problems more than benefits.
    4. because i know its flaw well before i bought it, everytime it updates or detach into tablet mode is a potential heart attack. And it did NOT fail my expectation. it Fails again and again.
    3months in and good fucking bye.
