I love these videos! I like to hear other opinions. I hate a Snowpeak Ruins a little less now. Still love City in the Sky. Now to SS right? I'm just gonna say Ancient Cistern.
Quick note: Midna IS the Triforce of Wisdom holder. That’s what saves her. That’s why Zelda disappears right after giving it to her. That’s why Midna isn’t hurt by Light and why she can chill on Link’s back in the regular world. Zelda’s “sacrifice” was her giving up the only thing protecting her up to that point. There’s actually a scene where Midna flinches from light because she’s not used to not being hurt by light. Midna states right after Zelda’s sacrifice: “you’ve given me all that you have, though I did not want it.” Thought it’d be cool for everyone to know :)
Yeah TP technically wasn’t my first Zelda game but it was the first I could remember and was good at plus I really enjoyed myself while growing up with it
@@nintendonibba2923 Which version did you have growing up? I grew up with the Wii version. I still say it's my favorite. But I finally just got to play the GC version and I think it changed my mind drastically! ~~Long. Jump. Attack!~~ Holy fuck! I swear to God that technique made the game twice as fun!!! But Swinging my arm around as the sword on the Wii is just too much fun!
Mark James I grew up with the Wii version that my older brother bought for my birthday when I was young. *this game is literally a large part of my childhood*
Twilight Princess was my coping mechanism when my mother had just died. I literally got that game two days later as a distraction gift from my older brother and it is, to this day, my favorite Zelda. I don't care how much later ones improved on the concept and I don't care the OoT was my first Zelda - TP wins it. Despite all the flaws.
It's really refreshing to hear someone praise how they handled Zant. I loved how he went more and more insane the closer Link got to kicking his ass. Don't hear a lot of positive stuff about that normally.
Yes! This. I absoultely loved having a major villain other than Ganon(dorf). Even if he did end up being the big bad behind everything as usual. He was such an intriguing character and that little scene in the end after you defeat Ganondorf was really satisfying. It shows that there was always more to Zant than him just being another minion.
I played through and beat T.P... But for some reason I completely forgot about Zant! It has been a while... And Ganondorf was pretty memorable... Ah well! Who gives a cucco about Zant!😁
Zant is literally the representation of the SJW-like people screaming for not getting what they want, then getting it by manipulative companies and governments, but the people get rekted by people who had enough with their BS, since the toxicity was already spreading. Funny how people do not like him that much for this behavior, but then years later we start to see more and more people like him emerge from the depths of hell.
You just retroactively healed the sinking feeling in my gut that happened ten years ago the only time i told somebody this was my favorite title - they laughed at me and wouldn't even hear out why i thought it was worth playing. Not that i ever could have articulated the why in such a masterful way. Thank you !
I can’t even begin to count all the times I lied about what my favorite Zelda game was to avoid those reactions, if your favorite wasn’t OOT or ALTTP it was scorched earth, ESPECIALLY in TP’s case
That is the reason why I never told anybody why Majora's Mask 3D is my favorite Zelda game. I got it during its release year in 2015 on my 13th birthday and loved it from that day on! This was also the first game where a cutscene showed what my character looks like currently. It was really funny because I wore for the entire game Kafeis mask and whenever the camera zoomed in on Link to show his expression the only thing you could see was an expressionless white face with purple hair. Because of that I never knew that Link actually makes expressions in the game...
ill never understand comments like these, why anyone cares what anyone else thinks of their favorite game is beyond me some of you are way too self-conscious tbh, just tell someone to stfu if they're trying to chastise you for some stupid bullshit and/or telling you what you should and shouldn't like
@@katatonikbliss equally, why be weird about what someone else's favourite is? I was like 11 when TP came out and yeah, I would probably be confused and sad if some adult I didn't know well was nasty because I liked a game. It's fine to get in your feelings about it sometimes, as long as it doesn't actively hurt your life or anything. :p
When Midna was on the bridge of death and when she said that final farewell to Link... Those two moments are one of the most powerful moments I have experienced in a game. Hell, I even took to convincing myself that he eventually finds a way to get reunited with Midna after heading off from Ordon Village in the end.
and probably spend the rest of his life finding all the tiny minuscule shards of the mirror to fix it, allowing Midna to say what she didn't say at the end: 'Link, I love you'
The ending of this game was my first heartbreak as a child xD I could never except that she just leaves at the end & they never see each other again, it's why I always wanted a sequal & still kinda do to this day. Though it probably won't happen now that BOTW is out & pretty much changed what Zelda is for good as far as linear story & exploration
I feel like Nintendo could have released a patch to fix this. Like Welcome Amiibo, except instead of adding new content to a 6-year-old game, you're removing useless content from a new game. The amount of content connected to miiverse and it's useless reminds me of how much playability Pokémon Gen V lost after DS WiFi shut down...
I don't understand why miiverse just didnt switch posting to Twitter or Facebook. Avoids running your own social media site while keeping the stamps useful
@@emolovetree Probably because of the cesspools that are those sites & Nintendo not wanting to expose kids to that. I do think they could've done something that would be more universal than Miiverse that would've continued on the Switch & with a better name. Bothers me that all my posts on there are gone. I thought the idea was good but could've been done better. Maybe partnered with youtube to have more meaningful content & allow users to monetize more of their stuff.
Favorite temples of this guy: Water temple, Great bay temple and sky temple me: wtf?!! "I loved exploring IKEA when I was a kid" me: oooohh... that explains it
yeah I love this guy's thoroughness but he is way too harsh on linearity. There's nothing wrong with linear gameplay, in fact non-linear gameplay has been overdone so much nowadays, that super linear is almost preferred.
@@Dorraj yea, while I do really love open-worlds and enjoy exploration, those things can only keep me engaged for so long. For instance, I really enjoyed BOTW up until I found all of the towers, and thus pretty much knew what every area had to offer, before the game started to become kind of boring and repetitive for me; there just wasn't enough interesting story or characters to keep me engaged. What really draws me into a game is the narrative, and feeling fully immersed in that narrative. The ideal game for me is one that blends a beautifully crafted open- world, that feels alive and realistic, with complex characters and stories that exist in that world. For this reason The Witcher 3 is the best open-world adventure I've ever played; it has a wonderfully crafted linear narrative that also allows for some exploration and player choice, and has complex characters that you feel connected to. In the Witcher, the tightly constructed narrative improves the feeling of it's world rather than detracting from it. It really has the best balance of immersion, exploration and story, in my opinion. My other three favorite games, KOTOR 2, VTMB and Fallout:New Vegas, all have this blend of immersive atmosphere and interesting story and characters, though only the latter employs a more non-linear story. I'm also a massive fan of the Bioshock series which, again, have very linear narratives yet also have some of the most engrossing environments/atmospheres.
@@sonmi2246 mhm, I think an open world/narrative is only good when the quality of the narrative is high everywhere. There is no point in making an open world game if most of everything in that world is dry and bland. I'd MUCH rather have a hyper linear story than an extremely bland open world.
I like these videos, but my biggest criticism is that he seems to have a view of what makes a good Zelda dungeon that is very different from mine. For me, a good dungeon is one with interesting puzzles that make use of a novel mechanic that is implemented well. Backtracking in a dungeon can be good if I’m backtracking after I’ve gained a new ability and am looking for places to use it Backtracking sucks when it means desperately looking around previously explored rooms looking for something I was also able to do but missed because it was hidden in an obtuse way. It’s fine to be stuck in a room because you haven’t figured out the puzzle yet, it sucks to be stuck and not even have any idea which room you need to go to. Apparently this guy LOVES that though.
Dorraj I agree but I’ve found that often when Zelda dungeons go for the more linear approach, namely those in wind waker, they drop the ball on making linearity interesting. Instead of ramping up the challenge and relative complexity of the rooms as they go, it pretty much feels like you’re just walking unobstructed from one simple and easy room to the next. That’s why the added challenge of finding the path makes it more fun in these cases. Linearity also forces the developers to put emphasis on continually developing certain themes for their puzzles, whereas with dungeons that are a bit less linear they are able to get away with doing something else instead. For example in Jabu Jabu’s belly in Ocarina of Time, instead of trying to make boomerang puzzles/combat scenarios that gradually increase in complexity, they focused more on testing the player’s spacial awareness and getting them to understand how different parts of the dungeon fit together.
I think one of the biggest, and under-recognized strengths, is the characters. Midna is kind of a douche at first, but slowly gains your respect as you work together and help each other out. The villagers and townspeople (the mayor, Telma, that one village girl who gives you Epona's charm) feel normal at first- but as you help save the world, they do anything and everything they can to help you. Even some of the animals you talk to or interact with have a unique feel to them that's hard to explain. And I just haven't seen these sorts of characters in any other Zelda game.
milkshaketurtle79 i personally thought all but Midna are severely underdeveloped. Especially this special team that is helping you with the temples. They just stand around and talk
Honestly, just like Mr.Bierbaron said, all but Midna aren't worth considering. So much talking, screen time, and such with them (which is very little to begin with), yet they don't do much or anything to make most people care about them. Such as this video talking about Collin's development to save one of the other kids is different from people to people, mostly because time spent with Collin personally, is little to none at all. So to other people, that moment with him is very rushed, and possibly undeserved. Just like how KingK says Princess Zelda being there at the end with Link for the final battles, and having the Triforce of Wisdom is undeserved, due to the lack of characterization and screen time of her (even though the same applies to Ganondorf, despite what he says). It really all comes down to how very little screen time every character gets in this game, and how they aren't much different than the way they were from the start. All very much unlike Midna, when it comes to the character department. The talking to the animals? Hoo boy, yeah, no. Another downside when it comes to the Wolf Link mechanics, which makes it look even worser than before, of just how much of a underutilized gimmick it is. At this point, I would rather take the use of sailing in the boat of Wind Waker over it, even during the original where you had the terrible Triforce fetch quest on top of it. Also there's not much of a uniqueness about them at all, that warrants acknowledgement of the mechanic's existence.
I'm actually the oposite, to me literally the ONLY character i feel that was developed was midna. also this version of zelda is literally the most bland lifeless zelda weve ever seen. they should have called this game the legend of midna.
"It's not like Ganondorf comes out of nowhere either. He's foreshadowed as early as the Arbiter's Grounds, where he shows up in a cutscene, practically confirming he's going to be the end boss." Thank you SO much for pointing this out. I don't know what was up with people who watched that cutscene and just assumed they introduced Ganondorf, complete with a whole detailed 3D model, just for that flashback sequence and nowhere else in the game.
Even after playing through Breath of the Wild, Twilight Princess is still my favorite Zelda game because of Midna and the immersive experience you get while playing through it. I must've played through the game start to finish about 10 times.
@@Raylightsen BOTW is one of the best games period. Just because it's so different doesn't make it not a Zelda game. Zelda games was selling poor until BOTW released. Say what you want about BOTW but that's the best selling game in the series and bought in lots of non Zelda gamers like my son, wife and nephew who previously had never played a Zelda game into the series. This is a much fresher take on Zelda since the old take isn't working out. I do hope the sequel will bring back dungeons and unique bosses as that's my only complaint.
@@Light23K you do know popularity/sells doesn't equal quality, right? because if you think it does, then gucci gang and what does the fox say are apparently musical masterpieces.
Guys, both games are amazing. Personally Twilight Princess is still my favorite Zelda game of all time, and Breath of the Wild is an awesome Zelda game in its own right.
@@Raylightsen I agree. it’s a good game, great even, but it doesn’t have that “Zelda feel” that I can only get from Zelda games. The bosses lack diversity and the Divine beasts all have the same vibe. Not to mention the divine beasts are optional as well as everything else. If it’s not important or needed, then why would I be motivated to complete it? That’s why it will never be a favorite for me.
I feel there’s an untapped vein of interest in monster allies among Zelda fans, in part stirred up by the non-hostile Moblins that show up every now and then.
@@comyuse9103 If I remember correctly, link is the only one who really reincarnates and the zelda's have an intricate family bloodline. And ganondorf is more or less the same person in every game. If they could and should've killed zelda in this game, they could've just given her an heir considering how old and mature she is for a zelda
@@hylianro all three of them are reincarnation. Link of course u already know is reincarnating every single game. Zelda reincarnated via the royal bloodline. Therefore, if the royal family still exist Zelda could reincarnate. Ganon however are killed several times in this series he is also reincarnated via the curse of demise.
@@manimal4136 Breath of The Wild is overall flawed with big points like story, dungeons and durability mechanic being the biggest weaknesses and maybe the reasons for the boring feel and repetition after a while. Twilight Princess doesn't have weaknesses overall, it's almost perfect with small details that show it's age.
@@saricubra2867 I have an almost paradoxical statement about Zelda BOTW. When i was playing it, i got the feeling that the is the same time the most zelda of all and the least of it at the same time. It capture masterfully the feeling of exploration that miyamoto had when creating the first zelda, but lacked in most aspects that turns all the game in a wonderful and powerful adventure. I loved the exploration but i had the feeling that the game didn't need to be an zelda, but it just had the link's skin and so on. I missed the epic musics, clever dungeons and the ''feeling'' of being a hero. Joseth Anderson's review of BOTW and Nerrel's video comparing Skyward Sword and BOTW are good examples that shared this same feeling i had while playing
TP has a permanent spot in my heart. It was my first zelda game and my favorite. He really got it right when he said it was an epic adventure. That's what it felt like. And the music was so good. It actually had the best rendition of the main theme when u run through hyrul field. Much love to this game.
@@rednutbrian I raged at the escort telma and the carriage mission. Also during navigating the twili-dactal through hyrule river. And rebreaking epona. Oh and the joust with the bokoblin king on the bridge. I struggled a lot with that game lol but it has a special place in my heart as well. It was my first zelda game, and it has that special magic that they all have. The world feels so old and so damn charming. From the river shop keep, to the fishing store owner, to the lantern dude outside of faron. It feels very epic and grand, and I love how small you feel walking into colossal places like hyrule castle. The game just has a very rich world, characters and story, and I'll always love it.
@@allikat8847 that’s my other favorite lol, Skyward Sword and Phantom Hourglass, both of them since when I was a kid, before I learned everyone else hated them
Twilight Princess is my absolute favorite Zelda game. Twilight Princess is everything I want in a Zelda game, an amazing companion that is essential for the plot, a story and cast that gets me deeply invested, incredible dungeons that leave a lasting impression, an expansive world filled with stuff to do, and cinematic battles. Everytime I think back to Twilight Princess or am reminded of it, I have a desire to go back and boot it up and start over, every time.
I have a ton of respect for Twilight Princess; it definitely has a lot of good things about it. My main problem with it is that it feels too much like a rehash of Ocarina of Time; I don't think the things that are unique to Twilight Princess: the twilight realm, Wolf Link, the epic-fantasy atmosphere, etc., are utilized nearly as much as they could have been.
The realistic look of Link, Zelda and a select couple humans compared to the more goofy looking humans actually reminds me a lot of animated Disney films. In Beauty and the Beast, Belle, Gaston and the Beast in his human form look more like actual people, while everyone else has more toony or exaggerated features. I think, because of that, I'm used to it and actually kind of enjoy it. Zelda has always had a cast of weird side characters and their odd designs make them memorable, in my opinion.
I learned the other day that this tactic is used in cartoons like Disney or in this case Twilight Princess to make the main characters stand out from the rest. The hero in the old Disney films as well as any other main characters generally look more human like/more relatable as a way to highten their sense of heroism. Same sorta deal in Twilight Princess with Link I think
Also kinda makes you feel like Link needs to get the hell out of that starting village of his, cuz aside from Rusl, they're a bunch of cowards and idiots, and he is needed elsewhere.
Another reason could also be that Link and Zelda are Hylians, and Rusl and the townspeople are Ordonians. I notice not a ton of human-like people outside Ordon look silly like that. Idk, I like to look at everything in these games as possibly intentional because of the lore of the world itself :)
For me the most frustrating shortcoming of Twilight Princess was actually the difficulty curve: The game NEVER gets harder than it is at the beginning, but it feeds you so many hearts that it is absolutely trivial by the end. Almost nothing does more than a quarter heart of damage. Ganon's pig form running you over costs 1/4 heart! 1/4 heart from getting trampled by a giant demonic pig! Same when the dragon knocked you to the ground! 1/4 heart for falling ten stories??? It crushed my sense of achievement, because I felt like I hadn't actually achieved anything when I killed any of the bosses, especially the final fight with Ganandorf. They all posed no threat, and obviously involved the dungeon item in some way. I agree with you that the more common criticisms of TP are totally over-blown. There was a ton of content in the "empty" hyrule field, and the intro is effective at setting up the story and not extremely long unless you are re-playing the game. Wolf link is very fun to play as despite being a bit under-developed, and those sections in the twilight world are just so cool I never noticed the number of tears of light.
Sorry to go all necromancer on your comment, but 100% agreed. I remembered playing through TPHD on Hero Mode with Ganondorf's amiibo to make it more difficult... And I don't think I died more than once or twice throughout the entire game? It was easy to the point where it severely undermined the "epic" feeling they were going for. Granted, the 3D Zelda games have never been particularly well-known for their difficulty, but TP is the only game where it was so prevalent that it bothered me.
this is a zelda game we're talking about, i think BOTW is as difficult as the franchise has ever gotten with combat - and even then it isn't that challenging tbh the amount of games with challenging combat that are actually fun are pretty miniscule (souls games are the only ones i can think of, and yet again, they aren't that difficult if you aren't an idiot), i'm content with combat just being flashy, engaging, reactive, etc etc
@@katatonikbliss you stating the obvious here does.. nothing. She just explains that this game is designed to be super easy, but that’s not a good thing. You saying “it’s a Zelda game” makes no point and doesn’t make it right. Making you lose more hearts from taking damage doesn’t change the game, it’s still a “Zelda game”. I feel like you’re just bein contrarian for no reason.
happens to me in all videos with opinions about stuff I like, "oh hey I like that movie" *watches 20 minute video about why it is good* "Well... god damn do I like the movie"
it feels so good to hear someone actually praising this game... it's held a solid spot in my top three ever since it came out because it felt entirely epic the probably dozen times or so i played and replayed even before the HD remake came out. it's not without its flaws, but those always took a back burner compared to everything that was done right, at least for me.
I remember playing up until you became a wolf when I was like 9, and just gave up because of the setting and decided to hate the game for no reason. Few years later I decided to give the game another chance, and I was blown away, haven’t really understood what people dislike about the game since then
@@johnstarke5981 It's one of my top favorite Zelda games as well, but even I'll admit that the start was painfully slow and poorly paced. It shouldn't take you several hours to feel like you are on an adventure. Admittedly, Skyward Sword was MUCH worse with this, but it doesn't excuse this game for a slow start.
@@johnstarke5981 It's also one of my most favorite zelda games and I place it at number 2 on my list. But I also agree with the beginning being so painfully slow
I don't get it. Simply because they managed to shoehorn in a few more places to use the spinner, it doesn't mean it's a well utilized item. You use it in clearly telegraphed locations, in a very forced way. It's not something that the player is allowed to use creatively.
@@SinclairLockeAnd thats what so frustrating about the spinner, because it is SUCH a unique and awesome item. The way its used in the Desert temple is so much fun.
That's something I don't get. It's not like the spinner is the first useless zelda item to exist. Dekunuts, certain masks in majora, weaker swords and shields after you upgrade, magic armor, etc. Is there just something here that I'm missing, why do people not like the spinner?
that is what bothers me about online integrated features, nothing is gonna last for over 10 years so why make things that depend on those, I hate it when any game has them because people wont have those in a decade or so and BAM not the same experience
Yeah that's like the only thing the original Wind Waker benefits from over HD. In Wind Waker Tingle gave you the Tingle Tuner. While it wasn't the best concept in the world having to connect your GBA to the GameCube to even use the darn thing the thing is you could still go and use it at any time. Even if you played the original game now and had the right tools you could use the Tuner. With HD he gives you the Tingle Bottle instead which was of course used with Miiverse. But without Miiverse the bottle becomes nothing more then a worthless item that sits in your inventory gathering dust throughout the entire game. Nintendo didn't need to get rid of Miiverse even and if they did they could have just replaced it with something different yet still worked. But nope. Drop the whole thing. So stamps in 3-D World? Only there for completion now. Stamps in Twilight Princess for the Wii-U? Useless. Tingle Bottle in Wind Waker for the Wii-U? Also useless. It's like the Wii-U equal of the termination of wi-fi for the original Wii. Mario Kart Wii suffered from a massive loss of content due to this. Did you know Mario Kart Wii had bosses? Well if you just found this out now guess what? You can't fight these bosses because they were exclusive to online wi-fi matches.
wait ... are you for real? I had mario kart wii when it came out, I playet a lot online, altho I always did it for races ... bosses? damn. Anyways I will always hope that in the future developers will find a way to use online features that wont be a important to the experience, heck remember Dark Spore? online mmorpg with Spore features? nope? welp that is 100% gone forever like it never even existed and it was a real nice game
Hard of hearing dude here. I greatly appreciate the fact that the poe lantern is a visual cue along with an audio one. It's surprising that devs don't consider this market a lot of the time. Anyway, Twilight Princess has the best dungeons for 3D Zelda.
This is a great retrospective. Twilight Princess is my favourite Zelda, as well. It's hard to put into words or make a good case for it, but it does undoubtedly feel epic, as you say. One thing I feel like you neglected to mention, that adds to the quality of the story, is how Link's initial goal upon setting out isn't to save Hyrule, but to save the kidnapped kids. Upon finding the kids and returning Kakariko back from the Twilight, that goal is taken care of since he knows that they are safe, but his debt to Midna remains and becomes the new focus. Link's end goal changes a few times throughout the story, which makes how different characters' motivations interact with his own more complex.
well you can agree or disagree, but a LOT of people like Zelda games for the exploration aspect. Linearity completely removes that. I don't hate Skyward Sword as much as some people but some sections of its map are essentially a hallway. If youre the type of gamer that doesn't like having everything laid out for you, this type of game doesn't let you make any decisions for your self.
Past decade or so has seen a huge rise in demand for open world “fuck it do whatever you want” games. And ironically now everyone is hating them. It’s just constant shifting demand in genres. Happens all the time. Remember when Battle Royales were fucking EVERYWHERE? Now you ONLY hear about what Apex fortnite and CoD? Trends come and go. Open world games were hella trendy this past decade, and I believe a bit longer than that. And as we all know, shifting trends equals trashing previous trends. Once everyone started demanding open world games, regardless of the quality of them (cough far cry assassins creed shadow of mordor cough cough), the very same people started hating on the past linear games. It’s not the games fault for being developed around a certain point in time, and with certain trends and expectations. People were hating linear story-driven games because “but my freedom and exploration and grindy progression!!!” (Not saying anything’s wrong with that. Like seriously that’s what open worlds games are. Not bad, just their own genre).
@@game-enjoyer13 Well the whole thing about open world games is that is a constant hit or miss. You can make a gorgeous world but if there's NOTHING to do, its the reason why I would prefer having linearity instead since it wouldnt hurt as much and I believe would help the team make more actual content. Look at PSO2NGS for this very example At the other side of the spectrum, you have BOTW where it has a massive open world with actual stuff and many things at play for you to explore and play around in. Which is the reason people "want" open world environments but its tremendously hard to pull off a good open world game
This game did so much for my child hood, along with the WHOLE series, I played all of them, but I did have a soft spot for Twilight princess and it’s still one of my favourite Zelda games ever
I played this game when I was young and I was freaked the fuck out when she twisted her head I ran because I thought the transformation was going to continue and get worse.... Nonetheless I love TP it’s gameplay, theme, story, characters, aesthetic, side quests, dungeons and definitely loved the bosses (even yeta)
You don't need it though. Even using the armour, I still had tons of cash. It's a lot of work when there are a ton of chests around with 100 rupees each, fishing finds rupees, blowing up rocks, bugs, they're literally everywhere including falling out of the sky and trees (post bird hunting). Blowing up underwater rocks, well you get the point so searching out every last poe is too much of a headache. Just by normal exploration I end up mid fifties, so I'd never know where to begin looking for those 5.
My problem with the Giant's Wallet is that you can't get it until right before the last dungeon, which at that point, makes it completely useless, because you no longer have a use for rupees at that point, unless you want to cheese the final dungeon with the magic armor.

@@drolnogardgames4335 This video was already discussing the Wii version so I dont know why Hexen thought to mention it (Assuming he was meaning to with his comment. But I think and hope that they wont touch any 3d console Zeldas again until the next Nintendo console. The Switch is great for remaking the portable Zeldas due to them being made for such low resolution. The bump to Switch is huge and I dont think the value will be as much going to 4k for example. But the console Zeldas are typically epic and try to push graphics on their own. They will all take value from the power of the next console and we wont get that if we get it on Switch. Majoras Mask is compact and unique, so it can be remade any time, to be honest.
You pretty much covered every reason Twilight Princess is my favorite Zelda game. One thing worth noting that I don't think you mentioned is how returning items have been changed to make them feel fresh. You touched on this with the iron boots and how they were used to magnetize Link to walls ans ceilings, and how they were used in the sky temple to hold link in place and activate hanging switches. I really like how they took the boomerang and added wind to it to add a cool twist and allow for some new puzzles. Same goes for the bombs and their ability to combine with arrows, the clawshot's new ability to hang from ceilings and raise and lower, and of course being able to use two later on. In Twilight Princess It didn't feel like the same old song and dance when you got items that have become staples because they though up cool and unique ways to change them and add new utility to them.
Well that isn't something exclusive to Twilight Princess, pretty much every zelda game tries to make its items better compared to their previous versions, for example The zora's mask compared to the zora tunic from Ocarina The iron boots from wind waker where you can use it together with the deku leaf to mimic the deku flower and use it with the hookshot to pull down heavy blocks The whip from Skyward Sword compared to the grappling hook from WW And the paraglider from Breath of the Wild compared to the sailcloth from SS
@@blazing910 sure. but this guy is going on about how he loves the game, and then this guy comes over and is like "these things are better". seems like a dick move to me.
Wolf link has always been one of my favorite parts of T.P. I just loved being a wolf, how differently people reacted to that form and the fact I couldn't enter houses through doors. (And scaring people, that was always fun) I didn't really care that it didn't add anything to the game cause the wolf form was addition enough for me. Though I understand why other people would want something more.
52:20 "...with Latin music playing in the background..." For some reason I didn't think Operatic Latin and was more thinking a spicy little flamenco or something. Latindorf would be one tough gringo.
When I was little I loved the flamenco music! As an adult, I love flamenco because it makes me feel mystical, even magical. I can credit this game for it. So glad someone agreed.
I suspect that if you ask anyone what their favourite Zelda game is, the answer will always be the first one they played. These games make an impact so strong that it's hard to actually move on to the next one sometimes, because you're so invested in the feeling of your first game. OoT for me.
Well, I would disagree on that. My first Zelda was OoT, then WW, then TP and BotW (I've never owned a Nintendo console, so I was only playing at my friends place, so I had to play whatever Zelda games they had). And TP is my all-time favourite one. Then comes OoT, then WW and then BotW (which I didn't like much, tbh).
52:00 it's called dead man's volley, it's been in most zeldas, and yes, they intentionally allowed you to use the bottle because it was the closest thing to the bug-catching net, the very first non-sword item usable in a volley (link to the past)
Though Zelda get's very little screentime I do love her here and I really hope they go with this kind of Zelda again. A more serious, dignified and mentally mature princess. She acts more like a queen than a princess and that's really cool. I would like to see a game where Zelda actually is the ruler of Hyrule and actually has real political power. Maybe she sends Link on quests, gathers intelligence and gives him items.
@@omgiTzkitteh I would more describe Midna that way. But one thing I do wish they had included perhaps was that Zelda also transforms into an animal like Link did. I hope they will keep the wolf as a symbol for Link. The big has been associated with Ganendorf since the beginning.
@@briansilva3344 This is the kind of small but meaningful stuff that I pray Nintendo would do for a Switch port. Sadly they probably won't, but it would be awesome.
I couldn't agree more. The only part I disagree with is about Midna and the Triforce of Wisdom. While I agree having her wield it is interesting, I was always under the impression that Zelda bequeathed the Triforce to Midna (falling into a coma of sorts as a result and becoming Ganon's plaything). Midna then resolves to return the Triforce to Zelda in order to save her. So in short, my disagreement isn't that she shouldn't have it, but that she actually did have it. On the spinner, my complaint was how useless it was in the overworld. In contrast to dungeons, in the overworld it's slow and useless unless there's a track. This was the closest Zelda came to a skateboard and there's nowhere to exploit it.
Just to play devil's advocate to one of your points, I think he's annoyed by Zelda's revival because we literally see her like evaporate into thin air. If she just passed out then the coma thing would be easier to buy but when she actually fades into oblivion it makes her return much more jarring.
I thought the spinner was one of the coolest items you got in tp. They should have given it an upgrade kinda like the dominion rod where you can go as fast as wolf link in the over world
Titchwolf Fenriz I don't think a good scene should be open to interpretation, specially when it's such an important story beat. We should be able to understand how it happened. Without a clear understanding, our experience is hindered by our interpretation of the event.
MaiWei music changing as you phase between different areas is one of my favourite things in games. •LoZ Twilight princess overworld •Skies of Arcadia overworld •Even the Wii Sports Games Menus •Mario Kart Wii Menus •FFXIII-2 normal exploration vs when monsters are near. What others are there? I must experience them all!
While I love all Zelda games, TP is the first and only game where I became emotionally attached on a fundamental level with any character, that being Midna. Her helpfulness, her design *cough*, her sass, her constant companionship, and the frantic and emotional moment where you need to save her all create a perfect and moving relationship arc. Midna is what made TP as amazing as it is, and without her, I would not be as passionate about TP as I am. The dungeon designs, music, and sense of adventure are all glorious on their own, but Midna... Midna is the core of TP for me.
That must be the middle part. That is why you can't see it and of course it is downward facing. Alternatively it could be black. Maybe it is a part of the lorulean Triforce
Easily my favorite Zelda game. It was so crafty at pulling at your emotions. Made me so sad when Midna left and broke the mirror. I literally cried. She is without a doubt the best sidekick ever
The fact you say it's more linear like Ocarina of Time just makes me want to play much more. I loved Breath of the Wild and all, but I honestly am so sick of the nonsense idea that games being linear is a bad thing. It's not only not a bad thing, but it's often the best thing a game can be. Even games that are somewhat open almost always fail to deliver the entertainment that a linear game can give and the VERY few open games that can deliver entertainment that's comparable to a linear game need to be played in a fully linear way in order to pull that off. When I play open world games, I do like to do side stuff and I love to explore, but every little bit of that dilutes the core experience or the main quest. That's why for me, open world games almost never give me as strongly entertaining of an experience that a 10 hour linear game can. Even God of War, I felt like I spent too much time doing side stuff to the point that I could easily see that it took away from the absolutely brilliant main journey (which is my fault because I was trying to 100%/platinum the game before playing the final few missions, but still. What's the point of a more open game if you need to ignore all the extra content in order to get the most focused and pure experience???). So when people use linear as a derogative term it pisses me off because it's anything but a bad thing. Frankly, there can be too much of a good thing and I really don't understand these people that always want everything to be open, and have too much player freedom, and can't enjoy a more well crafted but shorter and more limited experience. Don't you people have lives of your own where you have enough freedom that you don't need every single game to let you do a bunch of chores and let you decide almost everything? I just don't get it and I never will. I feel like most of these people either have never played the hundreds of great purely linear games, or they're just so jaded on gaming that they can't help but nitpick and cry when a game doesn't let them do exactly what they want to when they want to. Also I'm sure there's some dumbass kids too that think all games are supposed to be open world, similar to the dumbass kids that think all games should be multiplayer that don't know any better yet lol
Same I like linear games more, too. That's why Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess are both my favourite games. I couldn't get the same excitement while playing Ocarina of Time and Breath of the Wild
Open worlds bore me unless there’s heavy RPG elements present. And I don’t mean surface level RPG fluff like ES or Fallout, like a real role playing experience with stat wank and the works. Give me a linear storyline with missions or levels any day of the week over a game like Breath of the Wild, which is a blanket of a pretty game over a bunch of boring fighting and “dungeons”
Open worlds need to provide a good reason to venture off the beaten path. An open world Zelda game could provide explorers with unique discoveries *they* find *on their own* instead of being lead by the hand to them. The problem with BotW is that yeah sure you can go anywhere do anything, but you're only ever doing the same thing over and over again and finding all the same disposable stuff. What difference does it make where you decide to go and when, when all you're getting is virtually the same thing? (health and stamina upgrades, additional inventory space, a massive hoard of virtually identical weapons and armor...) To make it worthwhile, the game has to provide something unlike anything else you could discover by venturing out your way. Like the fire rod in ALttP or handy spells like in OoT. Even that ice cave with the sliding block puzzle in TP is a unique discovery because it's such a bizarre and fascinating location. There are numerous fan theories that just try to explain why the place even exists! And you only get the same old heart container for exploring it, but the location itself is its own reward.
Hugo Stiglitz I agree. But I would say there a few open world games that live up to the concept. The Witcher 3 being the main one for me. Other games definitely fail at this because it basically just became a trend because Skyrim was so successful. Which is not a bad thing. But just makes people overlook great linear games like twilight princess which in my opinion is one of the greatest games of all time. Up there with the Witcher 3. I mean all the Zelda games are GREAT just twilight princess really was the upgraded OoT we all wanted. I mean even the soundtrack in twilight princess is a lot more iconic than anything in BotW.
I definitely prefer games with a structure to them and I suppose most of those games would be more on the linear side. I played Borderlands 2 up to character level erm, 26 I think and realised it was boring as fuck and I think it was because it was, like you say, a bunch of chores. I liked the characters, the humour and the look of it but so what? Metroid games are not open world in the usual sense but nor are they totally linear. If at some point you fancy going off on a wander to see what power ups you've missed or can get now that you have a new ability then you can, I like that. The last open world game I really got into was GTA San Andreas and I know every street and tree in it, but that was a long time ago. I don't know if its me or the games but the newer GTA's just don't make me want to explore, in fact I find them boring, maybe it is me..
I think the "Wolf Link is weak" problem could have been fixed by giving Midna more attacks. Her cool hair could have been used way more. And that feeling of vulnerability when she is injured would have not been lost.
It annoys me that you can't finish enemies as a wolf. I know technically it's a sword technique but they literally already have an animation for it with the Poe's.
The comment about them potentially becoming rare/unobtainable and locking players out of content was so unnecessary tho. NFC cards compatible with Nintendo consoles are $0.10 and can be programmed without any hassle with the smartphone you most likely already own.
@@Adolf1Extra I'm sure that was an oversight that didn't make itself known until quite some time later, mind you this video was made in 2017 and I'm pretty sure amiibo cards weren't made or at least weren't popularized until 2018 or late 2018. I had the same thought too, considering people make little 'amiibo pogs' on Etsy for all your favourite amiibos, typically eliminating the rarity of the NFC chips INSIDE the amiibo rather than the amiibo themselves, which as someone who can't give two shits about wanting to collect them, and instead caring more about the functionality they provide, this is a god send. Best part is they're pretty cheap most of the time, all the botw champions are like 10 bucks if you get the pogs as oppose to the actual amiibo.
Twilight Princess is amazing I just beat it for the third time. It is the game I have replayed the most. It is so epic and reminds me why I love video games.
I just have to say...wow. I’ve never seen someone as passionate about Zelda as I thought I was. You have a truly dizzying amount of knowledge on Zelda and the mechanics of each game and how they consciously and unconsciously affect the way you perceive the game. You’ve earned my sub. Wonderful video and series of videos.
If you ever need someone who loves Zelda you should check out PeanutButterGamer. He dedicates one month to Videos just about Zelda. And he’s entertaining
I totally agree with your classification of this game as an "epic", that's what set it apart from other Zeldas. The focus on adventure and progression, the constant introduction to new settings, it widened the scale of the game. Like you said, someone says "adventure", you think Twilight Princess. This is my favorite console Zelda too, it stuck with the linearity and made for an incredible experience. It's my second favorite in the series right behind Phantom Hourglass (fight me scrubs!). Something you said at the end really stuck with me though, it's something I've been writing and rewriting various ways myself for an RE6 video. You said that to you, this is Zelda. Even though it's not like the originals, it's still a great game. People obviously won't agree with that because they're purists, by I don't understand why deviating from a series norm is bad for Zelda. I mean, look at RE4, it was nothing like the previous games but people accepted it for some reason. Then RE6 comes around, completely different again, but people hate it. Same thing with MGS. I really dislike that argument that moving away from the rest of the series is wrong. A huge series like Zelda can only evolve by changing, it doesn't need a formula to follow, different genres and formats make the games interesting. I don't even know what ai'm saying. I need to go to school. Love you kingKool 💋
RamHoot I totally agree, and I think one of the reasons BotW is being received so well is because, like most Zelda games, it feels different. It's a polar opposite of TP and Skyward Sword. But it doesn't signify that Zelda can only work when it's nonlinear, because imo the switch (pun intended) brought with it several weaknesses. Like I said in my OOT video, it's hard to have a tightly paced epic progression with so much player freedom. Though the freedom of BotW is probably its strongest aspect, it loses a bit of that replayability of Twilight Princess, which will always have a core linear progression to come back to. For BotW, once you've explored that huge world, do you get the same memorable dungeon design or story on multiple playthroughs? I think it's very limiting to hold any series to a strict formula. It harms creativity.
RamHoot plus what all you said sounds a lot like my thoughts on Metroid Fusion. Sure it's more linear than the other games, but it allowed for tightly paced progression and a really epic horror atmosphere that does a good job building up the SA-X that just isn't present in any other Metroid game out there (from what I've played at least), and hey, that feeling of isolation is still there and accounted for. I feel like that's proof that Metroid doesn't need to be completely nonlinear to still be Metroid
On the Agatha quest, I don't mind being gifted rupees because when my purse is full, I just go give them all to the guy who asks for charity. When you empty your purse on him, go fill it up again at Agatha's. It a bit of back and forth and you can only give 100 rupees at a time to the guy, so it's still tedious but you can combine those 2 quests in order to not waste the gifted rupees
Twilight Princess is probably my favorite Zelda, mostly because I see it as a reimagining and combination of Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time. I also enjoy the darker themes, the music is probably my favorite, even the sound effects. And the story is pretty cool. I even prefer the combat. And I see absolutely no issue with the visuals. It's not cell-shaded, but it is definitely very stylized. I originally played it on the Gamecube so the waggle controls were never an issue, thankfully. I just hope the remake gets ported over to the Switch. Skyward sword, too (waggle-free).
"I grew up with the Wii version..." Whaddya mean, you GREW UP with the Wii version! That only came out... ten... years... ago. *Checks your Twitter* My god, you're only as old as Diddy Kong Racing. MY GOD, DIDDY KONG RACING WAS ALMOST 20 YEARS AGO. That is bizarre to me, I hope you know. But it's all the more impressive as I've spent the past several days watching your content, and it's all extremely well done and insightful. It's been all the more enjoyable because I've never really been much of a Zelda fan. I mean, I've played 'em all, but they've never gotten their hooks into me... until Breath of the Wild. So it's been awesome to see such a detailed breakdown of the entire series from a lifelong fan. I'm happy to see your channel growing so much! You deserve it! Keep it up!
The Geek Critique Woah didn't expect to see a comment from you, loved your Metroid season. Man it really has been a long time. I'm 19 so I guess I must have been around 8 or 9 when this game came out? Christ lol
It's nice to see a compliment from one of the great current content creators on this great channel that I just discovered. Your video on DK64 was top notch work.
Just cause the soundtrack is outdated doesn't mean its bad. I would suggest listening to the reorchestrated version, it definetly makes the soundtrack sound a lot more impactful and epic. And to be completely honest I dont mind the midis, maybe Im just used to it. Ive played this zelda the most, as a kid and now. SO listening to it in midi form for years and then hearing it completely revised is pretty jarring and amazing.
TheCrazyTurtle but that has more to do with the limitations of software at that time, rather than composition or melody. TP's soundtrack is generally really well produced and written, even if they don't sound good in the actual game.
I remember playing this game for the first time on the wii and as my first zelda game, being blown away, and then being confused why no one talked about it. People only ever mentioned Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. Happy to see Twlight Princess get more love these days. Waiting patiently for a remake/remaster
I don't think you are in the minority in saying this Twilight princess was the best Zelda game, A lot including myself say it's a masterpiece and the best one there is. And how you defined the city in the sky was an exact reflection on how i viewed it as a kid and it was so epic to hear that someone else that understood it.
Most Zelda games are liked by most people who play them, really. The idea that any of that “most” category are “bad games” is more of a pose than anything real.
Not an unpopular opinion. Twilight Princess is my favorite. Between story, visuals, puzzles, difficulty and overall gameplay, as much as I didn't like the idea when I was ranking my favorite Zeldas... I just find it superior to everything else. I might prefer the story in Majora's Mask, I might prefer the visuals in Wind Waker, the puzzles in Link Between Worlds or the difficulty of Adventure of Link but Twilight Princess suffers the least overall. Wind Waker is too short, Link Between Worlds doesn't have that vastness and scope of 3D Zeldas, and Adventure of Link... well... at least it's a challenge and mastering the sword is rewarding! That being said, I'd sooner pop in Link to the Past or Ocarina of Time, my previously held Zelda favorites. But let's be real. The story just doesn't compare. And the mid story event from Twilight Princess was far more impactful to me than the other two. This game is longer, the puzzles are trickier, and Ganon is a blast (as well as the slew of bosses in this game). As an overall experience, I think Twilight has the most value.
Jorge Alberto Jerez I can hardly remember any of the characters from Twilight Princess other than Zelda and Link. Lame characters and boring story overall. Ocarina of Time was memorable from beginning to end.
MidniteBlues Sounds more like nostalgia than actual hard facts. Which isnt the worst thing, I wont lie and say its my favorite either but its a locked 2nd place after Majora's Mask. I remember all the important characters, I remember playing the GC AND the Wii versions, and I remember spending so many hours in front of my TV/VCR combo and just going and going and going.
"Lame characters"? I'm not gonna fanboy over it but Midna is one of the best characters in Zelda games. Ocarina is still probably my favourite but I don't think the story or characters have that much more going for it. It's more just a nostalgia trip.
Characters aren't everything. Let's be honest, sidequests and character interactions are cool, but they shouldn't be the main focus of the game. TP has some excellent dungeons, perhaps the best in the series, and the fast paced action sequences really sell it to me.
@@lRedBaronl Theres also like what, five memorable characters in OoT? lmao, no shit you can remember them all, it aint hard when the cast was so small compared to TP.
The shadow beasts also are clearly meant to be taken out with Wolf Link, even if you can theoreticallytake them out with Human Link. Even Ganon beast has a phase that prioritizes the wolf
Yeah I personally agree with 100% of this. I feel like Twilight Princess only started getting a bad rep when these hyper-detailed analyses (which I happen to love) stared coming out. Most of those videos focus on the game in a purely mechanical sense, almost robotically. That and of course Egoraptor's Sequelitis and gaming philosophy, which I only agree with a few very specific points of. I know that Zelda games don't tend to tell very original stories, but they're fantasy epics. That's what they are. To ignore that element of them misses the point to me. Everyone loves ripping on TP's prolonged opening, but to me it's a big part of what makes the story so effective, even on repeat playthroughs. When you rewatch Lord of the Rings, you don't just skip Frodo's time at the Shire, it's part of the whole experience. Ordon Village is a very vital part of the overall immersion. I know it's cliche but Ocarina of Time is the game that got me into videogames. I was already aware of them and had played some at friends' houses and enjoyed them, but Ocarina was the game that made me say "Wow, I need to OWN this so I can explore this incredible world anytime I want." Mario 64 didn't make me say that, Smash 64 didn't make me say that, Yoshi's Island didn't make me say that (those are all games I sampled before Ocarina), but Ocarina made me say that, and it wasn't just because it was fucking fun or tightly paced or the designers threw me into the action within the first 60 seconds or any of that bullshit. It was because it immersed the crap out of me, it captured my fucking imagination and presented me with an opportunity to truly LIVE the kinds of adventures I had only read in books or watched in movies up until that point. Thus, the modern obsession with non-linearity for its own sake and short intro sequences really irks me. That's not to say short intros are bad either, but it comes down to how effectively they are ultimately used. For example I don't happen to like Skyward Sword's opening because Skyloft's reaction to Zelda's disappearance (or lack thereof) retroactively soured my perception of that town as a community in general. When the Ordon kids are kidnapped and you make it back there, you feel the effects of that loss strongly and immediately, the whole town is in turmoil, the parents are depressed and terrified. When Zelda falls away from Skyloft nothing FUCKING changes there, I feel like only her fucking dad even noticed. It just made me not give a shit.
I agree with everything you said. LOZ is at its best when it tells an epic fantasy story, combined with fast-paced action, stunning visuals, and superior dungeon design. People hate on TP's opening for being too long, even though it sets the scene, and teaches basic gameplay mechanics, so the first dungeon doesn't have to be a tutorial level, but for some reason, they seem to give WW's dreaded tri force quest a free pass, even though it brings the action to a grinding halt, and has absolutely nothing interesting. As for it not being an open world, and being linear, people need to recognize that linearity is not necessarily a bad thing. It builds narrative, and gives structure to the game, creating that epic fantasy experience some people relish. Really, open worlds are mostly a fad, which was made popular by the likes of Skyrim. But making LOZ open world just for the sake of being open world hasn't really worked out well. And the more linear style works, so why change it?
I get that you talked about Midna in a separate video but I thought it deserved to be stressed more that she was by far the best companion character of any Zelda game. Overall, this was an enjoyable retrospective that I mostly agreed with. While I acknowledge that BoTW has more content to offer players, I still prefer this game for its story, atmosphere and soundtrack.
What I like about TP compared to BotW is that it's very replayable. It's long enough that it gives you a good, enjoyable gameplay experience, but short enough that it doesn't take 2 years to finish, and can be replayed over and over. While the exploration in BotW is cool the first time, once you've seen everything, there's nothing really that special about it anymore, and since that's the majority of the game, there's not much of any reason to play it more than once, except to test your sanity with Master Mode. TP, though, has an experience that can be relived time and time again, to mostly the same effect as the first playthrough. That's one thing I also enjoy about Ocarina, which I wish was more common in the series.
Unique might not be the best word seeing as its like Ocarina of Time 2.0 but I like to go with refined. When it came to the Pre-Breath of the Wild Zelda formula, Twilight Princess pretty much perfected it in my opinion.
Cannot wait for a Zelda game similar to this again (style/graphic wise, but also controls and what not). Don't own a Switch atm but would pick one up solely for said game
I would'nt call it unique at all story wise its an oot two and atmosphere wise majoras masks lightest parts could be darker and the wolf is kind of like a bad transformation mask if anything windwaker or majora are the most unique for how vastly they contrast each other in almost every way
Honestly, everything going to shit is for the better, because he gets to be the knight he was always meant to be, and isn't trapped in some backwards village his whole life as a farmer.
This is one of the most perfect videos on TH-cam, considering that this is my favorite Zelda of all time. Hearing someone else talk about how fantastic Twilight Princess is for NEARLY AN HOUR, is a dream come true. It's also nice that this video wasn't extremely biased and nostalgia based. Thank you for blessing my recommended box. I will now gladly subscribe.
Makku It's a lot better than talking for nearly an hour about how TP is pure shit, and is a disgrace to the likes of MM and WW. People really need to learn to appreciate this game's style, and understand that it is OK for a game to mostly be a sequel of it's predecessor.
I've always seen Twilight Princess as the most Refined Zelda. I understand the gripes with the fighting mechanics, but I honestly love these fighting mechanics. Something about it just seems like it conveys the David and Goliath nature of the biggest battles better than most systems could ever hope to achieve. Its also flashy, and I like flashy. I've never thought it looked dated, even now because its stylized enough in every aspect of the design to save it from this. What really holds it back imo are low res textures, aliasing, and stiff animation. Personally I think Twilight Princess' biggest weakness is the stiff animation, it could've used a bit more, perhaps ask someone from the KH team to help? I feel it limits the expressiveness of the game.
I like your David and Goliath comparison, and I agree with your opinions on the style. To me, it has some of the best combat of any LOZ game. And all the graphics and animation problems are things that can be fixed with a remake.
OKAY HOLD UP I'm at 47:20ish, about the ball and chain! As someone who didn't know there was a fire-proof shield in the game for years, I relied a lot on the ball and chain in combat because when you hold it out in front of you, it acts as a shield and is impervious to fire arrows and attacks. At points when my actual shield burnt, I'f just always keep the ball on a face button and switch to it quickly to block hits. Very sad times, but it was interesting, shows it could have been used more I guess
New viewer here going through some of your older videos and i think you really explained why i love watching lets plays/playthroughs for twilight princess specifically. Midna states right after Zelda’s sacrifice: “you’ve given me all that you have, though I did not want it.”
Thought it’d be cool for everyone to know :)

Well, coincidence meeting you here lol

It has been a while... And Ganondorf was pretty memorable... Ah well! Who gives a cucco about Zant!😁

Zant is literally the representation of the SJW-like people screaming for not getting what they want, then getting it by manipulative companies and governments, but the people get rekted by people who had enough with their BS, since the toxicity was already spreading.
Funny how people do not like him that much for this behavior, but then years later we start to see more and more people like him emerge from the depths of hell.

When Midna was on the bridge of death and when she said that final farewell to Link... Those two moments are one of the most powerful moments I have experienced in a game.

"I loved exploring IKEA when I was a kid"
me: oooohh... that explains it
yeah I love this guy's thoroughness but he is way too harsh on linearity.
The sound design in this game from music to effects is unmatched. Just really creative stuff.
I'm so happy to hear another person praising Twilight Princess, some people barely give it a look in but it's an amazing game
Midna's the best girl of the entire goddamn franchise, and there are people who don't know of her. It's a sin.

@@pebbleplays5335 Yes.
PebblePlays yes
@@pebbleplays5335 Yeah definitely, have it on my Wii U and it's so good
I think one of the biggest, and under-recognized strengths, is the characters.
Actual story in a nintendo game with character arcs and development and everything!!!
Have you played majoras mask?
I'm actually the oposite, to me literally the ONLY character i feel that was developed was midna. also this version of zelda is literally the most bland lifeless zelda weve ever seen. they should have called this game the legend of midna.
"It's not like Ganondorf comes out of nowhere either. He's foreshadowed as early as the Arbiter's Grounds, where he shows up in a cutscene, practically confirming he's going to be the end boss."
Thank you SO much for pointing this out. I don't know what was up with people who watched that cutscene and just assumed they introduced Ganondorf, complete with a whole detailed 3D model, just for that flashback sequence and nowhere else in the game.
And Zant already said that his power comes from a "god" on the Lanayru spirit cutscene with Midna and Link.

Definitely 100% in my top 5 I also adore twilight princess, still hoping for the switch port so I can play on the go 🙏
I have a ton of respect for Twilight Princess; it definitely has a lot of good things about it.
MagicSpartan Yeah. I guess I wish they were just all pretty or all goofy.
Just makes the "men" of Ordon look even more like morons. Not hating, but Rusl really is the only Ordonian with a spine. And Link's not Ordonian.
"An EMPTY bottle FULL of tears"
Only in Zelda.
Lol!
Atleast it's in the game instead of the jars of gamers tears with modern day loot box scams! Haha
WTFPoniesftw its not really empty is it
For me the most frustrating shortcoming of Twilight Princess was actually the difficulty curve: The game NEVER gets harder than it is at the beginning, but it feeds you so many hearts that it is absolutely trivial by the end.
Granted, the 3D Zelda games have never been particularly well-known for their difficulty, but TP is the only game where it was so prevalent that it bothered me.
this is a zelda game we're talking about, i think BOTW is as difficult as the franchise has ever gotten with combat - and even then it isn't that challenging
tbh the amount of games with challenging combat that are actually fun are pretty miniscule (souls games are the only ones i can think of, and yet again, they aren't that difficult if you aren't an idiot), i'm content with combat just being flashy, engaging, reactive, etc etc

BeardDragon RIP. I miss it.
Tingle's Bottle is now useless in Wind Waker.
that is what bothers me about online integrated features, nothing is gonna last for over 10 years so why make things that depend on those, I hate it when any game has them because people wont have those in a decade or so and BAM not the same experience

It’s not the games fault
for being developed around a certain point in time, and with certain trends and expectations. People were hating linear story-driven games because “but my freedom and exploration and grindy progression!!!” (Not saying anything’s wrong with that. Like seriously that’s what open worlds games are. Not bad, just their own genre).
@@game-enjoyer13
Well the whole thing about open world games is that is a constant hit or miss.
You can make a gorgeous world but if there's NOTHING to do, its the reason why I would prefer having linearity instead since it wouldnt hurt as much and I believe would help the team make more actual content. Look at PSO2NGS for this very example
At the other side of the spectrum, you have BOTW where it has a massive open world with actual stuff and many things at play for you to explore and play around in. Which is the reason people "want" open world environments but its tremendously hard to pull off a good open world game
Not to mention the Hero's Shade is a really hecking cool call back to Ocarina of time!
Plus...he's just cool in general.

It was not E for everyone. It was T for *TEEN*
Jovani’s cat gives you infinite rupees, though. That’s a fair trade off for sixty Poe’s if you ask me.
But that's exactly the same as Golden Skultullas in OoT
But with the magic armor, at least it's a little more useful, in OoT you don't have anything to spend rupees on.
Weirdo which he didnt not metion , he never metions its unlimited money,
Most players dont realize it's unlimited in oot because they never indicate it to the player lol I assume it's the same issue here.

Botw MM Ocarina og Zelda 3Ds remakes Wind Waker HD are all better than TP
@@zacharygiles2984 douche
Well that isn't something exclusive to Twilight Princess, pretty much every zelda game tries to make its items better compared to their previous versions, for example
The zora's mask compared to the zora tunic from Ocarina
The iron boots from wind waker where you can use it together with the deku leaf to mimic the deku flower and use it with the hookshot to pull down heavy blocks
The whip from Skyward Sword compared to the grappling hook from WW
And the paraglider from Breath of the Wild compared to the sailcloth from SS

For some reason I didn't think Operatic Latin and was more thinking a spicy little flamenco or something.
Latindorf would be one tough gringo.
Latindorf 😂😂
When I was little I loved the flamenco music! As an adult, I love flamenco because it makes me feel mystical, even magical. I can credit this game for it. So glad someone agreed.
I played this game in completion two days ago and it's still one of the best video game experiences I've ever played.
The moment after beating twilight princess for the first time, the fist thing I thought was: I wanna do this again, so I started a second playthrough
I like how the game has a great narrative, great gameplay, superb dungeons, and is done in such a way that it does very well with replayability.
I literally could not put this game down. I got it for GameCube, day of release. Completed it in 3 days damn near staying up 24/7 lol.
Or rather, 24/3.
(but yeah great game)
52:00 it's called dead man's volley, it's been in most zeldas, and yes, they intentionally allowed you to use the bottle because it was the closest thing to the bug-catching net, the very first non-sword item usable in a volley (link to the past)
sad times when he brings up the use of the bottle against ganondorf but not the incredible use of the fishing rod

If she just passed out then the coma thing would be easier to buy but when she actually fades into oblivion it makes her return much more jarring.
i thought she just became one with midna and helped humanize her in a way.
VoltaireSurge yeah that's always been the way I saw it but I think it's a good scene as it's open to interpretation.
I love how the overworld theme changes when you're riding Epona. It's a subtle, but amazing detail.
MaiWei music changing as you phase between different areas is one of my favourite things in games.
•LoZ Twilight princess overworld
•Skies of Arcadia overworld
•Even the Wii Sports Games Menus
•Mario Kart Wii Menus
•FFXIII-2 normal exploration vs when monsters are near.
I would kill for a Twilight Princess remake for the Switch.
Yeah but, Midna has the Triforce of Edge.
That must be the middle part. That is why you can't see it and of course it is downward facing. Alternatively it could be black. Maybe it is a part of the lorulean Triforce

(health and stamina upgrades, additional inventory space, a massive hoard of virtually identical weapons and armor...)
To make it worthwhile, the game has to provide something unlike anything else you could discover by venturing out your way.
I didn’t appreciate TP as much back then as I do now. It’s honestly one of the best
I think the "Wolf Link is weak" problem could have been fixed by giving Midna more attacks. Her cool hair could have been used way more. And that feeling of vulnerability when she is injured would have not been lost.
Damn, I know this is 2 years later, but that's a great idea.
It annoys me that you can't finish enemies as a wolf. I know technically it's a sword technique but they literally already have an animation for it with the Poe's.
I like how you have to address amiibo now in these
Haedox Hey Haedox.

Hey, you were unexpected... Please burn activision for me.

Wonderful video and series of videos.
What he said! Felt the exact same way
If you ever need someone who loves Zelda you should check out PeanutButterGamer.
RamHoot can you elaborate how Phantom Hourglass is your favorite? or was that just sarcasm?
Zelda BotW is my new favorite, but before that I had the unpopular favorite of Zelda 2 to defend so I feel ya.
AHHH it's lambhoot
I always felt defeating darknuts to be pretty darn satisfying, but that's just me.
"I grew up with the Wii version..."

Well, Faron woods is great.
TheCrazyTurtle If it's *his* favorite, then it's *his* favorite. Maybe he likes Hyrule field
TheCrazyTurtle what's wrong with it being made out of midis? :/
100% in the minority. A lot love it. But it's not close to the most common answer you'd get if you asked every Zelda fan.
“Maybe there could only be specific enemies you could only take out with wolf link.”
Poes: Am I a joke to you?
i think he meant more

The shadow beasts also are clearly meant to be taken out with Wolf Link, even if you can theoreticallytake them out with Human Link. Even Ganon beast has a phase that prioritizes the wolf
Twilight Princess has to be one of the most immersive Zelda world I’ve played
And yeah, Midna's awesome.
Pskilla502 agree !! Ahh I love this game so much 😩
It's also the darkest theme in any zelda game that I can see, even BotW looks cheery to this game
Haven’t watched the video in a while. What video was Midna mentioned?
Twilight Princess is one of the best Zelda games in my opinion. Twilight Princess is so... unique.
Unique might not be the best word seeing as its like Ocarina of Time 2.0 but I like to go with refined. When it came to the Pre-Breath of the Wild Zelda formula, Twilight Princess pretty much perfected it in my opinion.
True
Cannot wait for a Zelda game similar to this again (style/graphic wise, but also controls and what not). Don't own a Switch atm but would pick one up solely for said game
I would'nt call it unique at all story wise its an oot two and atmosphere wise majoras masks lightest parts could be darker and the wolf is kind of like a bad transformation mask if anything windwaker or majora are the most unique for how vastly they contrast each other in almost every way
@@blazing910 Twilight Princess> Majora's Mask nuff' said
I personally love Hyrule Field in this game. In Ocarina of time it was way more barren espessially in the adult phase
to be fair, the ball and chain is accurately as it would be in real life, imagine trying to fight another person with one lol
TP was my first Zelda game, so it's always held a special place in my heart. Glad to hear others feel it's underrated. :)
Link has an fairly "Ordon-ary" life before everything goes to shit.
Honestly, everything going to shit is for the better, because he gets to be the knight he was always meant to be, and isn't trapped in some backwards village his whole life as a farmer.
DunantheDefender I fucking knew someone would make that pun.
Stay right there I'm calling the fucking cops
Already tried... They laughed at me. NEXT TIME, DUNANTHEDEFENDER!!! 😤
If this isn't deleted in an hour imma look for you
I keep coming back to this video time and time again. It's just so well put together and it's about one of my favorite games of all time.
People really need to learn to appreciate this game's style, and understand that it is OK for a game to mostly be a sequel of it's predecessor.
i wanna like this comment 100 times
RamHoot I can't believe that's even a use case for the damn thing. I kind of want to do a shieldless run LOL
New viewer here going through some of your older videos and i think you really explained why i love watching lets plays/playthroughs for twilight princess specifically. I never understood why twilight princess gets so much disregard and hate, its one of my favorites, and watching your video just solidified why i love it. Cheers!
