@@shubhiroy3801 I don't know exactly where it is, but it sometimes shows up if you scroll down through Netflix. It will play a random movie or show from their catalog. For some reason, if you click shuffle too many times in one time, it'll just cycle through the same like, 10 options it gave you.

This really isnt a first world problem, this is a basic psychological phenomenon, and your gut feeling is absolutely correct. Youre whats called a maximizer, as opposed to a satisficer: always looking for the best option rather than picking the first satisfactory option. Having too many choices can be really stressful, this isnt a flaw of yours!

one of my favorite things about being autistic is that i almost dont have this problem, purely because im content eating the same thing every day and watching the same tv shows. for the last 7 years, ive always ordered salmon and avacado sushi whenever we get japanese.
i have about 5 tv shows that i cycle through, and they all have enough episodes that once ive finished she-ra, the good place, gilmore girls, brooklyn 99, and how to train your dragon, i can start again because ive forgotten enough about she-ra that its still enjoyable, and so the cycle continues. this way i can sit down with my food and watch any episode of one of my shows, or one of the three or so movies i like (birds of prey, barbie movies, httyd again, ect) and its great.

i feel this. i also feel like when i start the beginning of my favorite shows again, i’m back in that initial happy place of “discovering” the show for the “first time”. and it also feels like i can transport to a time in my life where i wasn’t bombarded with responsibilities like i am now.
Same for me. I find one thing I like and I obsess over it for three months before I find something else I enjoy. It's great and makes finding entertainment the easiest thing ever. Need some background noise? Throw on the Clone Wars. Need something to watch while eating? Throw on the Clone Wars. Want to cry myself to sleep? Throw on the Clone Wars. I have anxiety about everything else in life so having this one thing where I don't constantly feel like I'm going to spontaneously combust is pretty neat.

EA R That makes sense. The nice thing about “MAX” though was that it actually narrowed your choices down to a specific handful of titles, if I remember correctly. Netflix’s algorithm also gives you suggestions based on your preferences, but the list of suggestions seems almost as endless as the larger catalog......so it ends up being useless as a selective tool.
such an interesting topic. my dad lived in the ussr for a bit and when he’d go to the grocery store there was literally only one option for each product. so when he came back to the states and went shopping he said it was completely overwhelming. just for a tomato sauce you’ll have a wall of options.

Ok great video and on a more serious note, there’s an app called “Upflix” that will pick something on Netflix for you. You can go in totally blind with no requirements or you can pick by how many stars they got on rotten tomatoes or the genre. My friends and I (my one friend and I who am I kidding??) have made it a thing to have movie nights where we have Upflix suggest a movie to us with no specifications and we have to watch the whole thing, I’ve watched tons of movies I would’ve otherwise never found on Netflix and tons of awful movies but it’s always a good time!

netflix has FIVE THOUSAND movies and shows yet when i look up my FAVORITE MOVIES/SHOWS it says that it’s NOT ON THERE
I am studying this at Uni, my tutor calls it "Peak TV", we have so much choices that it has become impossible to enjoy and consume even an insignificant percentage of it. This is why streaming services like HBO are deemed "more than just TV", it promises you a smaller collection of quality entertainment whereas services like Netflix offer you more shows than anyone needs or wants, and people will probably just end up re-watching Parks and Rec. It is an odd phenomenon of having too much choice and not enjoying it, it can easily make you feel guilty but peak TV has really messed up how we as a SoCieTy ingest shows so try not to worry about it as much as you do, you're not alone in feeling overwhelmed.

I am waiting for the day streaming services add back tv channels. Like if I don’t know what to watch I want to be able to just put on a channel with a specific theme and then it will just play a bunch of different shows and then if I’m really liking one of them I can just go on to it and binge watch it like you normally do with Netflix shows. I just want to be thrown into the middle of a show with no backstory whatsoever. And it’s also good with kids so you can just play whatever without it playing the same show the whole time and boring the kid. I have been dreaming of this feature for so many years, why haven’t they added it yet? It would be amazing.

If you're into really weird-skitlike comedy, Portlandia (with Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein) is really funny and super creative. It's the only show I've managed to binge. Plus, each episode isn't ridiculously long, it's only 20 minutes or so.

Analysis paralysis driven by streaming literally made me start reading again, because at least then I'm doing more than scrolling thousands of titles, selecting one after fifteen minutes, watching for five minutes, then deciding to try something else ad infinitum.
