    I love that you made this video! I have a dachshund named Conner and he got into a habit of barking too much. The citronella collar was my best friend at the beginning. He hasn't had to wear it for about 3 years now and is the best dog! 😊 he still barks but not obnoxiously. My grandmother had 2 dachshunds called Willy and Tilly😍makes me smile....

    I have had dachshunds for along time. We have got them to stop barking by using a timeout. We let them bark for a few seconds to alert us of what they see or hear, then we say calmly "No bark" if they choose to ignore that command we say go to the bathroom and they quit barking and march themselves into the bathroom. We have them stay for about 5 minutes and let them out and praise them for being a good dog! It's kinda funny how they quit barking immediately and march into the bathroom. They cuddle up in there and don't make a sound! They are usually good about not barking for quite some time, maybe even weeks! When they go in there it is like they are saying "we did wrong and now Mom wants us to be good"!! We love our doxies and can't imagine not having one!

    Thank you for the homework you've done for us who are looking for barking deterrents. The one comment I would like to leave as constructive correction is your statement referring to an electronic collar. An E-collar is not a shock collar. Shocking sounds severe. I have used E collars to change behaviors that were annoying to me with my dogs. My daughter and I tested t the collar on ourselves, on low setting of course, and it is like putting your tongue on a battery. And as you said with your product it only took a few times for the dogs to get the hint that their behavior was unacceptable and when they saw the collar coming to be put on them they knew and the behavior that was annoying to us stopped!

    The following is a (hopefully helpful) directly related review regarding SUCCESSFUL USE with LARGER DOGS. I love and really appreciate the above presentation: setting/energy/sound:) I'M one who depends on reviews like this, to buy products, so I greatly appreciate that you took the time and energy to make it for the unselfish purpose of helping people like myself. W & T are beautiful and this clip illustrates how much love and time you have invested in handling them so their lives will be safe and joyous.
    Suggestions: 1) product names a little too fast, box images too far away. Rec: leave a close-up, clear image in corner during critique and repeat product name/brand at end of review.
    2) A little research would be very helpful, even if it's only to read some unbiased reviews just to see if others have left similar feedback or answered relevant questions. This way, when saying "don't waste your money" on a product, you aren't turning someone off of a product that could change the outcome of their lives, and possibly keep them from rehoming an unfortunate dog.
    First of 2 examples is the cute little house "sound deterrent". My best friend bought that for her medium sized yard. She has 3 roughly 40 lb. dogs and it works wonders. It didn't cover her whole yard so she had to purchase 1 or 2 more. Her neighbors must have hated her prior. Without them constantly instigating the whole pack to bark, the Chihuahuas barked much less and their bark isn't so unbelievably irritating and intrusive. If it also works on the 2 tinys, we can't say yes or no.
    2nd example is the hand held "Bark Genie" (very inexpensive). Like me, some others have also noted their smaller dogs have not responded. However, with the larger dogs, the overwhelming response shows it is "Very Effective". I can vouch for this as it worked instantly like a CHARM with my 65 lb. Belgian Malinois with regards to barking in the home and pulling/jerking me on the leash
    Side note: Malinois tend to be high drive, and the last 2 years I have been forced to walk my dogs to go potty. He is obedience trained to heel, but they cannot search for potty spots at a heel.
    Given a little leeway, pulling becomes inevitable, and we also cross paths with cats from out of nowhere. He knows "Leave it!" but before I know it, he reacts and jerks my arm/body even pulling me off balance. I have muscle/nerve/spinal issues and cannot handle that.
    It's also draining and irritating to have to constantly repeat "Mingus! Don't pull!". Given I walk the other 1-2 6&10 lb. dogs to go potty at the same time, other "no pull" methods failed for one reason or another.
    The hand held "Bark Genie" was a Godsend! As soon as we had a couple of separate events over about a week, he was done. 1 less than a second press of the button got the reaction I needed to snap him out of his "the lights are on but nobody's home" mode. He saw the device in my hand and made the connection. Just letting him see me carrying it was enough to remind him. After that, if he forgot himself and started pulling, all I had to do was make a small verbal sound and he checked himself.
    When cats were near I just quietly reminded him to leave it and praised him when he did. I've rarely if ever had to use it in the last 7 months.
    It became an instant pleasure to walk him and I could relax. The other 2 littles didn't seem to be bothered really (unfortunately they bark, lol). Now I'm trying a vibration collar on the 10lb. instigator. Hope it works because he is making it very stressful now. Kids!
    Best Wishes.

    I just got this for my dog, and I'm glad I did.
    My dog has separation anxiety. When I'm at work, he's barking all day long. Everything triggers him. When I was at work, someone called animal control because they heard his barking outside, and assumed I was beating my dog, but I was at work. So, I bought the thunder vest. 2 weeks later... he's barking up a storm again, waking my landlord who lives upstairs. I bought the collar, he barked once when I leave and that's it. I can actually go to work without the stress on my shoulders, having another message about him. The collar obviously won't be on him when I'm at home but it's great that if I'm called into work late at night, I can leave him home alone without disrupting anyone.

      Just to make sure I've understood this correctly....your dog has separation anxiety and panics when you leave him alone..... so you buy something to punish him for that? Isn't that a bit like smacking your kid for being scared of the dark?

      @fgerardburke 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      DannyVision02 Suggestion, now that you’ve taken care of the dog barking, maybe look into the separation anxiety issue if you have time. Not judging. If you did find a solution to the separation anxiety, could you share your results? Thanks.

    Hi, The hand held Bark Genie works fantastically with my Chihuahuas. After just a few days of using it when they started to bark is all it took. Now if they bark or look like they are going to bark all I have to do is pick up the Bark Genie they stop and go lay down.
    The only down side to this devise is that you have to have it with you. So, if you have dogs that bark all the time or at the least little bump, car door slam, knock outside or anything they aren't use to hearing I would get the whole House Bark Genie.

    I have a fun way to stop barking--a squirt gun. When camping one year i used it every time they barked(I had three dachshunds at the time). They don't really like water and it would stop the bark and also distract them from what caused the barking. After a week all I had to do was point a finger at them like a trigger gun and they stopped! So it is also a neat trick in front of other people to quiet them.

    • @carolynkennon2580
      @carolynkennon2580 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I bought the Bark Genie First Alert handheld small version to help with one of my cats. Throughout the night, or if he hears me outside the bedroom he will cry, actually wail, and it’s extremely loud! I’m renting a room... and I am not allowed to have more than one pet, so I needed something to lessen my chances of getting caught. When he wakes my fiancé and I up in the middle of the night with his yelling, we reach for the device and press the button. It emits a super high pitched sound for a millisecond... it immediately stops my cat and he runs in another direction. It’s a great training tool for us. I feel really guilty for “zapping” in this way, but we don’t have a choice right now. It’s really effective for us. I just ordered a used eBay large version of the Bark Genie First Alert to test for when we are not home. Hopefully it works as well as the handheld.

    i have a behaviour collar on my bullmastiff which works wonders. i never used the citronella spray but the unscented version. my dog never really barks but when i first got him, i used the collar for recall etc. i haven't had to use the collar for months now. it is well worth the money. its certainly better for your dogs to use the unscented spray as the citronella can sting their face and nose. it also works well for unwanted jumping up at strangers in the park when your dogs excited and very playful!!!!

    P.S. to everyone who is posting negative comments about allowing dogs to bark... REALLY!? If you don't own a Doxie then you don't really understand the issue. Of course dog's should bark but OMG doxie's are the worst... and its sooo loud and piercing to the ear. Doxie's are so very loyal and hate any interloper even if it's a family friend. Screaming "shut up" just gets them more agitated. This collar seem like a "safe" way to let the dog know, you're ok... no need to bark. :) God Bless!!

I have 1 dox who just can't help but bark at company, we have to remove him from the situation, my other doesn't bark much. I'm sorry your neighbors are horrid doxie owners! Shame on them! It takes a very special person to take on doxies, but I agree with you! They MUST NEVER allow their doxies to disturb neighbors! Some people just SHOULDN"T own doxies! I'm looking for something to get the dogs around our backyard to stop barking so much. Two years ago, used to have a relatively quiet yellow lab that passed at 16 yrs old, but to the left of us is a beautiful corgi (rescue), to the right is a neighbor who dog sits, on average, about 5 different dogs and behind us, we have 2 back yard neighbors, one neighbor has a little yapper to the left and the one directly behind us has a Labradoodle. They either bark across our yard at each other or 3 out of the 4 neighbors' dogs meet in a corner and bark at each other. It's quite comical, but annoying when we're trying to relax on our deck.

      Oh, and might I add after reading some of the comments from some jerks below...his incessant barking was after being fed, watered, walked, and taken to the dog park for a couple hours to hopefully tire himself out. So, sometimes no matter how great and responsible of a pet parent you are sometimes your fur baby is a yapper. At least some of us pet parents are considerate enough to attempt to control our pets rather than let them drive our neighbors insane. And those making comments about poisoning dogs...y'all are some sick individuals!!!!

    My dog barks to boss us around. Basically we are being held captive for doggie cookies and treats. Help!

    • @TeslaNick2
      @TeslaNick2 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      He's demanding attention. You could just ignore it and give him a cookie when he stops or you could add this:
      put him in a room on his own and close the door until he stops. Once he's calmed down again, let him out. Every time he tries it, he has to go into his 'time out'. Try and catch him right at the point you know he's going to do it and say 'ah ah' and remove him.

    • @tomaskuli177
      @tomaskuli177 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Tesla Nick Thanks... not all attention as she is literally telling us what do to. Wants a cookie yeah, barks. Wants us to go upstairs, goes to the steps and barks until I go upstairs, then barks and runs around the room until she gets a little mini cookie. Talking to wife she barks and barks until I stop and go sit where she wants. Goes over to wife and talks in her throat, yelps, barks, growls until picked up on her lap. So there's attention getting, then general herding to get us into positions she wants (sit back in the usual chair, going up or down the stairs, go in another room). Gets what she wants then promptly goes to sleep. Very sensitive dog so the timeout will work.

      Is she a Jack Russell by any chance ?

    • @tomaskuli177
      @tomaskuli177 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Tesla Nick could be. She's a doxie mix. She looked like a yorkie as a puppy.long body, low to the ground, fur that get long and somewhat curly. looks like a Teddy bear when it's long. Has to get trimmed regular or mats. Neighbor has a Jack. barks a lot. Was tough for them to control. cute tv dog but people should think three times about getting a Jack. She was a little hard to train. Won't come if she doesn't want to it. won't let you pet her if she's not feeling it. Comes when she wants her belly rubbed. Hates going outside. Just hates the entire idea of having to walk out there. Very different personality than our purebred doxie. loves tearing up any kind of paper. won't do something again if she gets into trouble (except chewing on stuff). no interest in other dogs, except the Doxie, who's passed now. picky eater. hates her food wants the other dog's. doesn't like different foods mixed together like dry and wet touching. Now that the other dog is passed doesn't want the same food she demanded having. Not particularly affectionate unless she wants that belly rubbed which she loves or wants to get on couch with me for, yeah, a belly rub, or to build a cave with couch pillows to sleep in or talks to my wife to get on her lap. Talks back when you tell her to hurry up to pee, then pretends she's squatting then psychs you and runs around laughing. pees when she feels like it. the other dog peed on command. She knows the command just on her time. yeah that's her.

    People saying that dogs bark, yes, that's true, but there's barking and there's excessive barking. My dog does "demand" barking when she's bored or when I'm not paying enough attention to her. It drives me absolutely bananas and it's not a sustainable habit. I've tried teaching her the quiet command, tried ignoring, etc, and it's just not fair to the neighbours or my guests.

    • @propfella
      @propfella 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You don't have to "ELECTRICALLY" shock them, many units give a vibration and a beeping sound. They work, I have one on a Foxie and one on a Schitzu. Both of them together were going ballistic if someone walked past the house and God help us when someone knocked on the front door, the noise was unbelievable from 2 small dogs. One mailman thought we had a massive hound and was surprised when he saw where the noise was coming from.
      The units I purchased don't have an "Elecrical" shocking system, just the vibration and sound. They don't wear them all day or even every day. The Foxie sometimes forgets he has the collar on, but quickly remembers when it activates. They are also exclusive. If one should bark the other dog's collar won't recognize it, the collar actually learns the wearer's bark. I haven't tested to see if this is true, it's hard to get them to bark on cue.
      The units don't cause any harm, it hasn't changed the dog in any way, apart from a lack of barking or at least 99% of it. Visitors are no longer terrified to walk through the door and people have asked if we got rid of them due to the lack of noise. Neither dog has changed in any way. They still act exactly the same way as they did and we still love them. And they're no longer competing for the loudest dog in the street honours.

    I understand why someone uses the collar to help curb all the barking that they do, however, I prefer to try and train them not to bark at everyone that goes by the house. I do like that they can hear something out back whether it be a small animal or neighborhood cat on our back porch and then they give that low growl and bark that they mean business. Their other barks out at people walking in front of the house is just their way of saying, "this is where I live and I will protect it".
    I very much like your posts and find that Willy and Tilly are just great when they are on video. LOL

    Please continue to make your highly informative and helpful reviews.
    I have sensitive ears and don’t like high,loud noises. When you speak with your regular voice I enjoy listening. When you enthusiastically begin the reviews, you are yelling in a high pitched voice.
    May of us women(and men) tend to yell towards our recording devices. That is not necessary and it is usually why I begin with mute on or even totally bypass women giving reviews.
    We are the ones giving good reviews, but it it hurts to listen sometimes.
    Please, try not to be offended! I only intend this remark for helping.
    You are pretty, kind, and helpful.
    Thank you for taking time read my remarks.
    We have seasonal neighbors who have several rescue dogs. Their dogs bark and annoy us all. I cannot walk my own dog in that direction when they are in residence. Our cats love to walk and play with our dog/cat, Savannah, but the fence attack and even more ferocious barking has turned one cat into a home body. They’ll return soon and need a handheld device to help deter them. I refuse to allow them to bully our freedom and peace!
    I do respect the effectiveness of the dogs to warn their owners of something unusual in their environment, but does not justify the intensity and volume. The poor folks have to yell to get them under control. Maybe I’ll gift them a device which helps them not having to yell.
    Thank you again for your helpful reviews!
