OMG, cannot believe it actually worked. I was just about to give up and start looking for a new wireless mouse because opening up the mouse and cleaning all the lint inside did not fix the problem. Had some plumber's tape on hand and used it as in the video, and now the scroll wheel works. Thanks a lot!
Brilliant! I repaired my Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500 using PTFE plumber's tape. The center mouse wheel lost its scrolling grip years ago and now it works! I was so close to shopping for a new one! Gotta love YT for these brilliant hacks! Thanks!
Thank You so much, i was about to through out my mouse but becuz of your video i learnt something new and my roller just needed a little push to the other side.
Thanks man, it works! In my case, I've used micropore as I didn't have the thread type. The key is, you need to make the shaft thicker to reduce the gap between the shaft and rotating wheel in my opinion.
Thank you so much for the solution! I've been struggling with the mouse wheel for a while and couldn't find a fix. I guess, at least in my case, the plastic must have worn down over time, which is why it became too thin to make proper contact.
Thanks because your video encouraged me to try and fix my mouse insted of discard it. In my case, a wireless Genius, the encoder was rolling smooth, nothing seemed to be malfunctioning, so I decided to use a Wahl oil (yes, the electric hair clipper) on it, and it started working again from almost being unusable. Afterwards, I removed the excesss of oil and got back to work :)
Thank you so much for this video. ive been struggling with my mouse for a while and your humble and to the point video was the answer i needed. thank you so so much
What a life saver! I would give this video ten THOUSAND likes if I could! You just saved me from having to buy a new mouse! What an absolutely ingenious fix! It's like a brand new mouse now, I cannot thank you enough.
Thank you Sir! The cogwheel not moving was the issue and the critical clue to my fix! Yaaay! I found it easier to layer a small square over the cogwheel hole and push the shaft through rather than trying to attached the tape to the shaft (not much shaft to work with).
If every product have a TH-cam tip for malfunctions the world wide waste will be reduced by half !! well done !!! In click switches wd40 works perfect but for wheel malfunction your solution was genius.
Well, I at first just cleaned it and that worked for that particular mouse as it had some hair + dust all over the scroll wheel. Thank you for taking the time to make this tutorial and let us save some money from buying a new mouse :D hope you have a lovely day! ❤
The tiny shaft of the wheel is hexagonal shape, and fixs in the hex hole, but with the use, the plastic cornes get round so the tape trick works fine, thanks!
I had a slightly more extreme problem. The shaft of the wheel had snapped where it enters the encoder. I was able to retrieve the tiny nub that was still in the encoder. I then pushed a hot needle down the centre of the nub and into the shaft of the wheel. I then dusted the joint with bicarbonate of soda and put a few drips of superglue onto it. After allowing it to set completely (about 10 minutes) I then cut off the excess needle (that was still sticking out), reassembled and it works.
Thanks for the video. It helped to find the root cause of the issue. Tape didn't work properly. So, I used thread instead and my mouse working perfectly now.
NAHHH, i found others video fixing their mouse but my mouse just broke cuz their fixing is hard, and this video makes my mouse fix cuz he fix easy. this video is great bro thanks
Thx.... basically what I did though instead of that because it didn't work as well kept slipping anyway was cut the tape about the size of the hole or a little bigger, basically a square, layed that over top of the hole where the wheel goes in, then attached to push the wheel through it.......works perfect 👌
The shaft thing worked for me, only difference is I used the glue from the feet or glider thingy to stick to the shaft to make it a bit bigger. Works perfectly.
@@Your-Self It’s not fresh glue though, it’s worn out and has a very light hold hence why I used it. Just took a bit off the glide pad thing. I’ll surely give updates if it stops working or not. Thanks again 👍
I got my mouse wheel fixed thanks to this video! I cleaned it first (there were a lot of cat hair in it lol) and tried different tapes but my mouse wheel had different kind of nub at the end so tapes just didn´t work, but I but a little dab of hot glue and let it dry and that did the trick!
my days of trying to fix my Razer Viper mini leads to cleaning dust from the wheel, to noticing the lack of resistant of the scroll wheel and ended w/ the same treatment. it seems like the wheel shaft being dislodged case the wheel to slip and lose contact why the scroll jumps back and forth. cool!
What if the green mini wheel spins but it still doesn't scroll? Like it only goes sometimes. And usually I kinda fixed it, then I scroll for flawlessly for 5 seconds and then it is busted again. Edit: Okay, I had to fix the green mini wheel casing. Glad I didn't break my mouse and fixed it. Thanks for your video.
i have an adorable little "mouse mouse", as i like to call it - my mouse looks like a little hamster! i was having this problem and i was so sad because i totally thought i'd have to replace him :( but once i opened him up for surgery, all i had to do was jostle that little gear a bit and it went right back to scrolling normally! thanks for your help! :)
Thank you for this!. Now, I'm feeling effing dumb for not thinking about that before. I mean, it's clear the scroll wheel was losing friction, duh!. But, I'm just using a little piece of tissue, and it works again!.
Went to try this on an Onn. mouse, but there are no visible screws on the bottom. The feet are plastic, and peeling back the corner damages the plastic, so I'm not sure if there are screws to remove underneath, meaning this fix might not be possible on models like this. Granted, the mouse itself costs about $12 these days, but I'm more annoyed by the disposal requirements of electronics than the costs of a new one.
Thanks bro, i am a lefty gamer and i have trouble finding good mice that are somehow symetrical let alone good gaming lefthand mice in a reassonable price range. this video helped me put back in track my favorite mouse which even thou is about 10 years old still outperforms the chinese c**p i can afford these days.

my mouse doesn't have a rotating encoder.. but apparently, the silvery coating on the shaft peeled off and that's kinda "blocking" it... I just blew it off, then I just peeled all the coating on the shaft so, it's all black now (plastic)... it worked 😛😛😛

The shaft thing worked for me, only difference is I used the glue from the feet or glider thingy to stick to the shaft to make it a bit bigger. Works perfectly.
I was thinking about the glue myself, but since the shaft has to move slightly when clicked, the glue should be flexible. Let us know how it holds up.

How do you take of and put back the rubber feet ?
Not sure. The feet could be glued or just inserted.
You could try a small screwdriver to prime them off.
Thank you for sharing this video. I fixed my wireless logitech mouse(M275) the same way. :)

The only way that worked for me, thanks a bunch ❤❤

in my case the mouse wheel rotates backwards from its direction and because of that the wheel doesn't work properly, can this method also fix it ?
yeah if it jumps try it, sometimes 8 out of 10 the mouse wheel shaft gets dislodged or its material wears and the surface lose contact , so tape works
Please let me know if this worked for you as well. If not, how did you fix it?
Thank you very much. My scroll wheel was acting weird but it's fixed thanks to your video.
It’s worked Dude Thanks Alot for helping Me

woah tBeside from the fact I need to put tape is that the small metal is crooked that is why it is not moving, but thank you so much mate!!!

Why not just super glue the wheel to the rotary encoder eliminating the chance of slip?
When you click on the wheel, it should have unrestricted movement up and down. So I suppose, a flexible (silicone-type) glue may work. But not the super glue.
