Got my 1850 wireless mouse for over 10 years now. The wheel and buttons was not working properly anymore, I suppose I am from a generation that try to fix things before the need to buy new ones. I did follow the tutorial and I proudly can say that my 1850 wireless mouse is working like when I bought it. Thank you so much!
Thank you! My left click was double clicking when all I was doing was a single click, so I popped open the outer shell and cleaned up all the gunk and so far it's working normally again! I've had my mouse for about 3 years and use it every day a LOT so it might just be the end of its lifespan but I'm hoping the problem was just built up stuff!!
Thanks--so much better to take 15 minutes to clean it than to spend $10 or $20 to replace it (seriously--I can't afford to shell out every time something isn't quite right!) and throw away a whole handful of plastic besides. Now that I know the top should come off, I'm more confident about pushing it--and I hadn't thought of the credit card. You've made this old lady's day brighter.
This is just a quick video for anyone owning the Microsoft Wireless 1850 Mouse that needs cleaning. A short guide on how to open it up, clean and reassemble the mouse.
a guitar pick (Dunlop 50 or 60mm) is the perfect tool to open this kind of mouse 👍thanks for this video, it helped me a lot... i was about to throw my mouse away...
Thank you for this video! initially my scroll wheel didnt recover after cleaning off the dust only.. I tried spraying some isopropyl 70% hand sanitizer at the wheel controller, n now it works just fine
Nice video for people like me who can't figure out the first step to take it apart - no screws - as in almost all today's electronics stuff. It's not meant to be fixed, just throw this one into garbage and buy a new one. Sure, the environment will thank us. Luckily we can fix this stuff and it's so simple. This mouse had issues with the left button so contact spray made it work again, and today the scroll wheel started slipping, so I sprayed the encoder, and voila, it's working seamlessly again. I have even bought spare click buttons so I can change them when they stop working completely. So until something mechanical gets broken or a cat eats it, this mouse will last forever :)
Excellent thanks. Was wondering how you got inside the cover. My scroll wheel was jumping all over the place but thanks to you and some switch cleaner, my year old mouse is working again.
Excelente video, lo entendi en un 80% en ingles, pero lo mejor son los subtitulos que pusiste en español, muchas gracias por ello, lo comprendi a la perfeccion y ya limpie mi mouse y esta trabajando como nuevo.
Thanks, I couldn't work out how to open it, thought it was glued and I'd have to cut it open. One minor thing... I'd have tried out the bare board before reassembling it in the case just to make sure the switch and the encoder were now good. May have needed more work.
@@d7d835f6b I bought it online, probably ebay, try search for mini screwdriver set, it only cost around $6-7 and it's very useful to have around. Cheers, Jake
If you don't have a torx bit, sometimes a 1.4mm flat head ( actually that might be a 1mm) grips well enough to work, especially as the screws are not particularly tight.
Great content and no splashy introductions or other time wasting fluff. With 65,000 views, have you ever though about how much money you've save people vs replacement?
Thanks for your guidance. I managed to open the mouse as per video but broke the little plastic clips! However the mouse is now working and the seems to be holding together with the remaining clips. :)
Ideally you want to use a contact cleaner as it will both clean and dissolve corrosion, but you can use rubbing alcohol from your local supermarket, like isopropyl or ethanol alcohol, just keep in mind it might not work as well as a real contact cleaner. Cheers, Jake
@@TheStuffMade Thanks so much. I couldn't find a contact cleaner in my local supermarket so I made use of Isopropyl and it did the work. I have not less than 5 "damaged" mouse just sitting around. I was about to purchase a new one before I bumbed on your video. I will likely not be buying a new mouse anytime soon.
Thanks, you might be able to use super glue to put it back together, but I doubt it will hold without drilling a small hole and inserting a pin, but you'll need to use something like a 0.5mm drill bit. Cheers, Jake
My mouse wheel wasnvt workinh after accidentally dropping it on the floor. Apparently the force that opened the lips travelled through the mouse, breaking the small connection between the mouse wheel and the part that goes into the red circle.
It's a contact cleaner from the WD40 company, it's the type that just cleans without leaving any oil behind. You can see it around 11:08 in the video. Cheers, Jake
You know what, my left click need to be pressed with some pressure to click. BUT when i tried to open the top case with some card, and i tried again (didnt even open it) and it WORKS again wow,.
RC, you do have a sure touch; the small screws fitted so deftly! The mouse was working beautifully till i left it for some time with the cell in it. Though alkaline cell, it leaked and now the mouse does not work. I tried cleaning with spirit the way you demo`d. Still, no go. can you offer guidance. Thank you n rgrds VishG p.s. i am subscribed to you
IMO the best way to clean corrosion from leaking batteries is to use a fiberglass pen and gently rub the metal contact surfaces until the corrosion is gone, then it should work again. Cheers, Jake
Sir, even if I thought for forty years, I would never have thought that I would put Vaseline on a mouse. It really worked. Thank you!!

It is a complete tutorial. Appreciate the video :)
Greetings from Belgium. Thank you for showing this to us. Great explanation and also great video!
I did a complete pull-apart, but it turned out I only needed to clean underneath the top cover. Thank you!
a guitar pick (Dunlop 50 or 60mm) is the perfect tool to open this kind of mouse 👍thanks for this video, it helped me a lot... i was about to throw my mouse away...
Thanks, I've repaired my mouse by this. I only needed to open it.
Great video! Had the same issue with the scrolling wheel.

Amazing work. Thank you for sharing. I'm certain my mouse will work for another year or two with this.
Very good and clean video, thanks for sharing this. Works great. My mouse works again.
Thank you, very helpful. I suggest you guys clean while you're disassembling the mouse not just after it. My mouse was not working and now it's ok.
So, where did you buy your toolkit? Can I purchase one of this online? :D

Thank you so much for this video!! I had a different model and didn't need to take it fully apart, but this helped a lot! :)
Very good! My mouse wasn't turning on at all. Just opened and cleared with isopropanol alcohol and went new again, thanks.
Thank you! Fixed my scrolling jumping all over the place! 😃
Awesome!!! My left botton came alive again!! Thanks a lot!!!

Mi cabeza explotó al ver como lo abres, con tarjeta y todo... Lo haces ver fácil,lo intentaré y te estaré muy agradecida❤
thank you very much for this video, my sister broke hers and I wasn't sure how to get into it to fix it
I have a problem with slowness. When I pull up it slows down and then goes fast
All I want to know is, can it drag click? I would test it, but its batteries are flat and (because of stupid lockdown) I can't replace them....
Thanks so much for this video, what can i use in place of a contact cleaner?

Buen video, una pregunta, la rueda del mouse, el eje que ingresa al soporte se rompio, que me recomiendas para reparalo.

hey sir, What is the name of the tool you used to open the screws in the video?
It's just a screwdriver set. Search for "mini screwdriver set" on ebay, aliexpress, amazon etc and you will find it. It's not expensive.
Cheers,
Jake

What spray you used?
It's a contact cleaner from the WD40 company, it's the type that just cleans without leaving any oil behind. You can see it around 11:08 in the video.

You could probably use 99% isopropanol in a spray bottle with equal effect.
Great video, very helpfull, thanks a lot:)
WHA spray is?
Great job! Congrats!
What kind of liquid have you used ?
Hi, I'm using WD40 contact cleaner. Make sure it's the contact cleaner, not the lubricant.
Cheers,
Jake
