    Oh man this is glorious. It really outshines the current blockbusters Dragonball Evolution, Street Fighter: The legend of Chun Li and The last airbender. Until i saw this, i thought nothing could be that trilogy of awesomeness.

    The G-Savior Gundam makes a cameo in the recent Gundam Build Fighters anime as a gunpla model at the beginningof episode 8. Sadly, it was quickly taken out because its use as a practice dummy against a Hayaku Shiki model.

      That's unfortunate. Especially since I think the Hyaku Shiki is an overhyped meh mobile suit.
      Then again, G-Saviour is basically the GP03 Dendrobium Stamen in a sense so..

    This perfectly illustrates the inherent problems with adapting a cartoon/anime to live action movies, particularly gundam.
    1. It's going to be effects heavy, and if you can't get the machines to look good and move well you might as well not bother. They're as important as the characters, if not more so.
    2. Gundam stories (any cartoon/anime actually) are told over dozens of episodes. Trying to tell a complete, satisfying gundam story inside the time limit of a movie is very difficult.
    3. Gundam stories almost always deal with lots of morally grey issues and have character conflicts centered around differences in ideology. Just sticking fighter pilots into giant robots doesn't even come close to cutting it.
    4. A surprisingly handsome villain in a kinky mask is an absolute must. It's tradition.
    5. Mobile suit battles in space should be MOBILE. They're in space darn it! Move in all three dimensions!
    6. Firepower. If it doesn't have some beam spam and missile circus, it just isn't gundam.
    Anything else someone can think of?

      7.the pilots have to be young teens
      And 8. Ship to ship combat

    • @Xbuster6
      @Xbuster6 9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      +jose garcia They age of the pilots doesn't quite matter. That's only dictated to if they make a live-action movie of a series/ova/movie that has already existed in the Gundam Universe, then of course the characters/pilots must be a certain age, sometimes kids and sometimes teens. But if it's a new Gundam, like this, they can make the pilots whoever/whatever age they want. In Gundam Age, the first part of the series begins with Flit Asuno as a child, he grows through the series and continues piloting and building Gundams. He pilots to the day he's an old man, all shown within the anime. So, again, age of a pilot doesn't matter. That's up to Tomino & Sunrise to dictate, seeing as they are the owners of the entire Gundam Franchise. They chose these actors, and never made any objections. Therefore they were wanting this.

    Just a small heads-up, Sunrise basically gave a bunch of people who knew next to nothing about Gundam a script and some pictures and essentially told them, 'Make a movie with this'.
    Considering that, by the time of the release of G Saviour, Gundam in the West was limited to Wing and 0083, you can't exactly blame the production team entirely for what happened.

    As per standards, the one with the V-Fin comes in and IMMEDIATELY kicks ass and takes names. Awesome. For a movie that's so old, this is actually rather good. The beam saber duel was pretty nice, but recycling the shot of the Gabthley (yeah,looks like it) come crashing down remind me of GSD... Not that it was bad, though.

The suits don't zip around and one shot other suits, mobile armor is a massive threat, and the idea of an ace pilot on the field that can pilot at incredible speed and precision inspired genuine terror to the entire protagonist group. This was surprisingly entertaining. Although extremely western. The mobile suits except for the Gundam have western design marks. The camera angles are western. The sound effects are western. The projectiles are typical western made for tv sci-fi even in the way they're shown, shot, sound, ect. The bad guy was pretty stereotypical super evil which was annoying. At least he didn't have a mask, I guess. Glad I sat through this, because if the movie is as boring as said, then I just got the only good bits. Although the suits seem a bit slower than even one year war models, it's typical western space combat speeds shown. Actually a bit faster. This is still better than a lot of what we saw in DS9 and B5 as far as combat goes. Not up to par with typical gundam anime battles, of course but not god awful.

      @Xbuster6 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +onigojira Well, Sunrise are the ones who chose to make it "Western". But it's pretty good. I just wish they would've included more fight scenes in the overall movie, or more interesting storyline. But overall it's a great movie/video game.

      G-Saviour would benefit from having an actual show. We have A LOT of good sci-fi show makers over here, who touch on different styles. From Star Gate to Trek to Battlestar, I think they'd be able to find something if they wanted to make a gundam show with a western feel. I think the concept of the political sphere falling in to turmoil after the weakened Federation collapses is interesting. They never recovered after the Titans incident, and it looks like there's a little tech stagnation going on as no centralized power holds the resources needed to push mobile suits past what we've already seen. My only fear about them expanding this would be that western sci-fi, even trek, is generally not as hard sci-fi or as "tech oriented" as Gundam is traditionally seen as now.

    I've watched the movie, and... the Starship Troopers requisites, low budget acting, the systematic global starvation plan being "definitely sane", I get it. But on the other side, I think that Mark is the only Gundam movie protag so far who actually works as a Gundam movie protag. It's amusing that among many children MCs, he's a full grown man in his 30's who just wants to chill on his underwater rig before getting himself into big problems and overcoming his anxiety. And it takes just enough time to not feel either too long or short. Yes, his backstory is a bit generic, but what can you do?
    Also the G-Saviour looks pretty good.

      ***** The irony of it is that at the end of Victory Gundam in the lore of it all, the Federation supposedly got their hands on the ZMTS37S Zanspine. Even though the suit is 50 years old, its tech was apparently used by the Federation in their mobile suits later on. I mean the suit literally was told to be even more powerful than the Victory 2 Gundam of the league militaire, they had plenty of chances to construct better equipment after the war [aside from the red tape of the EFF I guess]. Then you get to G Saviour and you see this shit. I'd wish they'd given an explanation how bad the federation continued to suck from UC153-UC223

      DarkExes GBouncer A lot can happen in 70 years. But yeah, seems like a bit of disaster is needed to explain this lapse in superiority. Setbacks, to say the least.

      I would like to know what happened past UC153 between then and gaia gear or G Saviour. It would be nice to know how the federation further declined.

      DarkExes GBouncer Over several generations of peace, humans become increasingly nostalgic and obsessive over terrible TV movies and shows from the 80s and 90s. They become progressively more dull and predictable after repeated exposure to the likes of Starship Troopers, Space 1999, Battlefield Earth, SeaQuest, Galactica, and Cleopatra 2025.

    It's UC, but for all purposes it might as well have been a completely original tv movie, because aside from the calender and the mention of Sides Gundam doesn't really come into it much. It might have been accepted more if it didn't have Gundam's legacy to live up too if you ask me.

    You can't even make sound in space, if every movie with a space action scene had no sound, people would get bored instantly. Just go with the fact it's entertainment.

    You do know this came out in 2000 for a budget of a less than $9 million and Bay's first Transformers movie came out in 2007 with a budget of $150 million, right? Kinda self-explanatory.
