“Did those people that have left the club over the last couple of years already know the club’s future? Governments don’t make these sorts of decisions overnight.”
ARR also quoted a trainer saying that “the sickening part of it is that we have been busy buying horses, and all the while they have been planning this. I think the anger is that there was no dialogue whatsoever … The history of the place, the livelihoods at stake … and there was zero dialogue.” Pap is a heartless gov with no empathy
💯
Mike Lee is a total professonal unlike the Sing Chinese Singapore Turf Club top management. I have personally worked with Mike Lee and it was an honour and a privilege to work with him. As for the Singapore Turf Club - What's the point ! You have made a once great instituion in Singapore - a sinking ship ! The local Sing Chinese Turf Club management should hang their heads in shame. The Turf Club have world class trainers, jockeys, owners and stable staff - yet STC top management do not appreciate what they have and have basically f ked them over ! Shame on the incompetent STC sing chinese top management !
Leadership failure that sank the ship.
"No horse run" has a new local colloquialism meaning.
We need to build houses for foreigners!
Very true
The Club's Chairman Niam Chiang Meng from SPH, the President and Chief Executive in charge of racing Irene Ng also from SPH. Both hve no clue on horses and racing, its best they roll the curtain down.
You said it so well. These idiots have absolutely no clue on horse racing. They just don't have the vision and the will to succeed. Just look at SPH.
“You can’t wrap an 181-year-old industry in 16 months,” encapsulating the prevailing sentiment among the horse racing fraternity.
Jason Ong, a young trainer, also shared his discontent over the abrupt closure, noting that the STC should have advised them not to buy more horses had they known about the impending closure.
Four-time Singapore champion jockey Vlad Duric empathised with the staff at the STC, expressing sympathy particularly for the owners who have recently invested in the industry. He also emphasised the bond and resilience within the community, stating they will stick together until the end.
One jockey, speaking under anonymity to ARR, said: “It’s unfortunate that it is closing but the current model was unsustainable, it was a sinking ship and they were very happy to let it sink, it is disgraceful how they have handled it but totally unsurprising.
The sudden announcement has also raised questions about the STC’s strategic planning and the transparency of its decision-making process.
For now, stakeholders, horse owners, and racing enthusiasts are left contemplating the future of the sport in Singapore.
Get a computer and make millions. How about horse satay??? with peanut sauce.??
Come to HK.
More stakes, more opportunities.
800+ races per year.
The decision has also left those who recently invested heavily in the industry, like Eric Koh of Team Cheval and Jason Ong, one of Kranji’s emerging young trainers, grappling with uncertainty and disappointment.
Later in that afternoon, the MOF and MND issued a joint statement, confirming that the 120-hectare land currently occupied by the STC will be repurposed for housing, leisure, and recreation facilities under the Singapore Government’s direction.
This marks the end of a rich chapter of Singapore’s history, with the last race meeting scheduled for 5 October 2024, and the land set to be returned to the government by March 2027.
It is clearly mismanagement. Look at hong kong. They hire key management team with strong credential in racing industry to manage the racing revenue. And they generate spectacular turnover year on year, bringing in the best of the best to race horses in Hong Kong. Is our management team at STC has all the tick the box to meet the global challenges knowing STC revenue has been declining due to wor turnouts etc.... On the other hand, will our govt demolish the national stadium afterall the kallang wave that support the mighty lion has not been roaring for years and our soccer team had been on losing spree over the years ? Bottom line is what has STC done for the industry to spice up interest in such sport beside there are doses of stigmatization on people in singapore indulge in horse racing unlike in Hong Kong culture.... If you are not heading to the Sha tin race track on weekend... You are not a hongkongers.
I enjoy going to Singapore Turf Club Road, it’s an interesting place.
The heartless people attacking them for being sad are idiots
didn't read. I've never been to the race course. When I was schooling, horse racing was at Bukit Timah. There would be people going there with a magazine folded several times. You know they going to the race tracks. There seemed to be radio broadcast of horse races. I can't remember, but the newspapers had half a page of black and white pictures of horses with a number in small circles. I have relatives who love to gamble. Horse racing and football betting were some of the usual activities. There is probably a culture of going to an activity such as looking at horses. and the media may have an effect on people. Never seen a horse race on TV these days, so the gov probably tried to curb gambling addiction for a while. It is no lost to me as it is not my hobby to go to such venue. Betting on Horse racing may have ruin some families.
The decision to close highlights the impact of regulatory restrictions and the establishment of a casino in 2010 on the sport, leading to a drastic drop in turnover, a decrease in horse populations, fewer race days, and dwindling public interest. The advent of COVID-19 only exacerbated the club’s struggles, particularly with the sudden need to pivot to online wagering.
The impending closure is a particularly hard pill to swallow given recent signs of recovery for the sport, including a fully occupied grandstand at the last Kranji Mile meeting and new investments from market players.
build a turf club at pulau ubin island
Close ok. Happy family day❤
We do not need to abuse horses for the sake of gambling and keeping horses owners rich. Horses are sentient beings who can get Bleeding lungs from over exertion and painful or fatal injuries and end up slaughtered for "poor performance". It's not right.
Come to Malaysia, the owner need to start locate their horses in Malaysia for future, because close to them, the fact is, Kranji is done, no more Horse racing...
MALAYSIA COWBOY TOWN
Will this become, solving one problem and creating another?
Nobody is above e SINGAPORE GOVERNMENT 😂
lets be real how much ppl really know how to bet on horse racing, beside blindly buy some horse not know much... the next bigger question now is where are the loss taxes collected going to come from.
This is best news, sports that cater to very few snobbish elites have no place in present society.
Habibi come to Malaysia, Malaysia Race Horse...
GOD BLESS STC JOCKEYS TRAINERS OWNERS WORKERS AND THEIR FAMILIES.....BYE BYE
Theres a saying when u got to go u got to go😅
No love lost! Sooner gone, sooner better! Gambling is sin!
This Bastard Government took Bukit Timah Racecourse now they are taking Karachi
Close golf club is good enough. Singapore Turf Club should remain. ❤❤❤
If u dun like intransparency in SG management style, then just leave. The laws here r to protect and safeguard authority at all cost that permeates every level of SG management.
起初,以为是访问克耒门!哈哈哈哈😄他们会听馬界人仕講咩!一声令下!关!管他用多少个亿去建,多少的家庭所影响,政府的声誉!全人的錯,他们的决定不会错的!
Long odds for horse racing’s survival in Singapore. str.sg/iUYr

REMEMBER 'MOSES'
The government should develop this place for research purposes...... Like my gifted son sent by the Lord Jesus Christ to my family told me Heaven is majestically beautiful. We need to research on Maths and science area. His teacher in Heaven is Nicholas Tessler told him that we are just at the very surface in terms of research and need to nurture more to fulfil God plan. Amen
God's plan is God's plan , no need scientific research , you dishonest follower 🤣
Those who feel sad or angry about the closure are mainly the gamblers.
How about the staff, you think they are all happy?
You dun have to be a gambler to enjoy horseracing. Get a life dude.
Used your ass for talking ?
