  • A job fair will be held for Singapore Turf Club employees, three months before the first phase of retrenchment begins around October next year. The union representing them said all are welcome to participate in the fair. However, jockeys who are freelancers won't get as much support. The Singapore Manual & Mercantile Workers' Union added that a big challenge is that more than half of the members are above the age of 50. Still, it said talks are underway with the Singapore Turf Club to provide additional support, like hardship funding and training grants.

It's sad that so many people have to loose their profession and being separated from the horses that were with them for a long period. Stay strong and move on. God Bless..

In Singapore we need a great P. M. to turn Singapore economic around. Or sercurity guards or cleaners. The rest of the jobs is for foreign talent.

After 50 years of rule - uninterrupted - the PAP has failed to develop sustainable (population growth, education and economic development) policies that will enable locals to drive our economy, that is, creating jobs and attracting investments, with foreigners playing a complementary role.

The decision has also left those who recently invested heavily in the industry, like Eric Koh of Team Cheval and Jason Ong, one of Kranji’s emerging young trainers, grappling with uncertainty and disappointment.

Jason Ong, a young trainer, also shared his discontent over the abrupt closure, noting that the STC should have advised them not to buy more horses had they known about the impending closure.
Four-time Singapore champion jockey Vlad Duric empathised with the staff at the STC, expressing sympathy particularly for the owners who have recently invested in the industry. He also emphasised the bond and resilience within the community, stating they will stick together until the end.
One jockey, speaking under anonymity to ARR, said: “It’s unfortunate that it is closing but the current model was unsustainable, it was a sinking ship and they were very happy to let it sink, it is disgraceful how they have handled it but totally unsurprising.
“Did those people that have left the club over the last couple of years already know the club’s future? Governments don’t make these sorts of decisions overnight.”

Let me say. Closer of Singapore turf club is a bad decisions and incondreate. Take a look what happens to Bukit timah turf club. All existing golf clubs should make way for further development. Okay

u must be a fool to believe that superficial statement. what happened to the ex racecourse in bukit timah ? a country with nothing but malls and houses. that's called improved community living.
